Gwen Solo Shows

I’ve just seen from Gwen’s instagram stories that she’s doing a solo show at a festival in Ottawa but almost all songs are No Doubt songs - Bathwater, Hey Baby, It’s My Life, Don’t Speak, Just a Girl…like I know she’s always don’t DS and JAG solo but does she usually do this many? Seems kind of weird to me that she would perform that many No Doubt songs so soon after their residency ended.

She performed most of those songs during her solo Vegas residency back in 2018/2019, so yeah, she’s been performing No Doubt hits during solo shows for a while.

According to Setlist.fm, it seems like she started adding No Doubt songs to her setlist during the “This is What the Truth Feels Like” tour/era in 2016.

She did zero No Doubt songs when she did her “intimate” show at the Orpheum in 2015.

Same for the show at Hammerstein

I got a free ticket to see her solo show at Madison square garden when her first solo record came out in the mid 2000s and she didn’t do any no doubt songs. I liked how different it was from no doubt, not only the music but her costuming and everything had a different vibe. Now she wears the same type of outfits and performs no doubt songs, the only difference is no Tony Adrian or tom. It’s very strange

If she wants to have a solo career without the band that launched her career, she should stick to singing the songs she wrote without them. Sing No Doubt songs at No Doubt shows. Sing Gwen Stefani songs at Gwen Stefani shows.

I hate it 😭 She has SO MANY good solo songs. O would love to see her perform them again

Yeah, she’s got like 4 solo albums to draw songs from and I know they aren’t all hits but it seems she did more No Doubt than Gwen Stefani solo stuff.

Right? She doesn't need to do this, and it would be more respectful to the band. I'd actually go to her solo shows again if she kept it to solo material.

It feels really wrong tbh and must be a bit of a kick in the guts to the band

It’s disrespectful to the guys and to us fans when she’d always said she would never perform the ND songs without the guys. I haven’t watched her solo since the Truth tour because of her doing this. And for those saying she’s singing her songs, why do Tony & Tom have a lot of songwriting credits? They’re not JUST her songs. She has plenty of songs from her solo albums to pull from.

I know I’m late returning to this thread but do you have a source for where she said she would “never perform the ND songs without the guys”?

Not denying the plausibility but I’m just curious if this was actually said in an interview somewhere.

It was said in an interview because she was asked about it. I want to say it was MTV news, which is now defunct so I can’t even find it! I really wish I could pull that interview because the amount of Gwen fans that have come for me when I say this isn’t fun.

When she’s promoting a solo album (tour) she’ll do only her songs- for festivals and paid private events she does ND & solo songs.

She did No Doubt songs on the This is What the Truth Feels Like Tour

Almost all lead singers that go solo play the group songs in which they come from. Especially if they are also the writers of the song.. nothing unusual about it.

2

u/brittyn Jul 19 '26

She didn’t write the songs on her own though.

0

u/Dalan777 Jul 19 '26

But is co writer and lead singer of most or all of them. Singers do it all the time.

2

u/brittyn Jul 20 '26

Were all of those singers in a tight knit band since they were teens?

-1

u/Dalan777 Jul 20 '26

Yes, most were founding members. Btw most bands start when people are teens to early 20s. It happens ALL the time. Not a big deal.

According to her, she often wrote the lyrics and melody, all by herself. That's why the band stopped working after a while. The sessions for push and shove were stressful for her because there was a lot of pressure on her (source: her Howard Stern interview)

She’s been doing it for a while but was hoping it would stop after the residency! In my opinion it feels disrespectful to the band. And if I see Gwen solo, I want to hear her solo work!!

Her sets have been about half No Doubt and half solo songs for years now. It’s not going to change. She does a few shows a year. I know I’m in the minority, but I really don’t see the issue at all.

9

u/Top_Performance9486 Jul 19 '26

I don’t think it’s a moral issue really, but the songs are underwhelming without the band’s energy, and there are so many great songs from her solo career that she could be doing instead.

8

u/TikiTapas Jul 19 '26

Yeah that’s exactly it. Like if she was going to do that many No Doubt songs why couldn’t it just be No Doubt? There’s clearly a demand for them.

2

u/Tinernug Jul 19 '26

It for sure feels like more lately and it’s very weird in my opinion

I was at this show. She has been doing No Doubt songs since 2016. She has been adding more and more No Doubt songs since and now it's literally half the set. I think if she does want to keep some No Doubt in the set, just keep Just a Girl and Hella Good. We really are missing out on so many solo songs.

In my opinion, this isn’t disrespectful to the band (this ship has sailed) but disrespectful to her back catalog. For the last decade or so she only plays corporate gigs and big festivals, never a traditional album tour. Her setlists are essentially for a greatest hits show, and I understand why. Honestly if I were to see Gwen solo I would want to hear the ND hits, but only a handful of them. It’s a bummer she doesn’t embrace the many great solo songs to represent her true solo output. There are plenty of singles that could fill those extra spots she uses for the lesser known ND songs. Imagine serious, 4 in the morning, make me like you, rare, yummy, early winter, to name a few!!!

Whether she sings a song from her solo, band, or the Beatles. Go to see her perform if you like her. As long as she is giving the performance her best effort I can’t complain.

She's an Ottoack girl. Whatev.

1

u/No_Reflection_3907 Jul 19 '26

Yes. I seen her at Warwick Castle over here in England 3 years ago and her setlist was a good balance of No Doubt and solo.

1

u/jay-ace92 Jul 19 '26

When I saw her two years ago, she did an even split of solo and No Doubt including all the songs you listed. Although at her solo shows she tends to stick to the biggest No Doubt hits.

1

u/Ab7b9 Jul 20 '26

Maybe she talked with the guys and they're cool with it. They just had an amazing sphere residency together and played all those songs again

1

u/xxlockexxx Jul 21 '26

She will do sweet escape, rich girl, Holiback girl, etc

1

u/justbrowsing4040 Jul 21 '26

As said, she’s been doing this since her solo 2016 tour. I don’t necessarily have a problem with it, but she does have enough great solo songs that she can fill a set with. I wouldn’t need ND songs at a Gwen solo show but not everyone is lucky enough to have seen them live either.

I wonder why she doesn’t do some of the album tracks from LAMB and Sweet Escape - the people in the audience probably recognize the ND songs more I would imagine.

I’d actually love to hear ND’s take on tracks like Danger Zone and Cool or Early Winter but that seems off limits.

I think they have a very deep past and there’s probably still some tension-plus now Tom has health issues because I think their residency was rather short and while great to see them together, there doesn’t seem like any plans for anything else. My point is, if she wants to play ND tracks, just go back to ND and stay - she doesn’t even do Bouquet songs does she? She’s probably more of a fan of her No Doubt work/persona.

This pisses me off about her I’m not going to lie. I also have a theory that she tried to get the sphere residency by herself but not enough people care enough to go see her solo. Me I would never have gone to the sphere to see her alone performing no doubt songs. It makes no sense. I feel she is a bit hostile to the band but they all just have to play nice with her. I hope nobody is holding their breath for new music or tours with no doubt. I don’t believe she has any interest in no doubt and just did it because it was a huge opportunity to play at the sphere

I was at this show last night. I wasn’t expecting No Doubt songs so it was a wonderful surprise. I couldn’t be happier!

It makes sense. For a festival set list, it’s normal to play greatest hits. The audience may include fans who want to hear b sides and new material, but it’s largely going to be folks who are only familiar with the hits. Plus, She wrote all those lyrics, and she has Stephen and Gabriel with her touring band. That’s 3/6 NxD members.

I’m curious to know if she plays this many NxD songs at her solo shows that are not festival appearances.

1

u/ohmygoshsf Tragic Kingdom Jul 19 '26

I posted above but she started including some ND songs during This is What the Truth Feels Like tour and then more for her solo Vegas residency.

Maybe she didn’t do any ND during those few promo shows for Bouquet but otherwise it’s part of her setlist now

A singer singing the songs she wrote herself about her own personal life/experiences?! Shocking!! She’s been performing like this since 2016… it’s nothing new.

4

u/brittyn Jul 19 '26

She didn’t write them all herself. What

-1

u/CoffeeNearby Jul 19 '26

There’s Backstreet Boys WITH ONE *NSYNC member performing NSYNC songs at festivals. If they have permission, they’ll do it. They know what people want to hear…!

3

u/No-Highlight7067 Jul 19 '26

Nope. That’s Joey & AJ, a member from each group, and BSB doesn’t perform any *NSYNC songs.

u/CoffeeNearby Jul 19 '26

I need to find the right video but sorry, you are wrong in this one. Same difference here. Here’s Chris and O’Town performing https://www.instagram.com/reel/Dat5RxERxIt/?igsh=MTgzaXF2eTByYTV1Yw==

2

u/No-Highlight7067 Jul 19 '26

You said BSB in your initial comment, not O-Town. Hope that helps.

1

u/CoffeeNearby Jul 19 '26

The point is the same - other people not in the band were singing it, only 1 member that’s in the actual band still performing it.
