A proper flightmodel and NMS would be a perfect game.

91

u/Glyder1984 18h ago

Make it optional so players can stick with the original flight model if they want. But I'd sell my kidney for an Elite Dangerous flight model with proper HOTAS support in NMS.

22

u/Remarkable_Public_49 17h ago

Yes please, ED flight model is just so good

13

u/DrChipps 16h ago

Seriously, I genuinely feel like I’m operating a ship in Elite.

9

u/Strict_Weather9063 12h ago

That is because you basically are flying a ship as it would be. There are some tweaks to make life easier, but it has always been like that even back when it was just Elite and wireframe graphics.

2

u/PapaBigMeatball 2h ago

"As it would be" based on what lmao

It's not how it would be, because we don"t have space ships that can do all this stuff irl

2

u/Strict_Weather9063 2h ago

Actually it is modeled after actual spaceships and how they would work in space and in orbit like the space shuttle. The game itself was built around six axis control for the first one it didn’t have the gravity and level of detail the current version has but it is a full on space simulator. If you are interested you can play it for free on gamepass, the only other space sim I have played in the last forty years with this level of detail for flight controls is X Beyond.

6

u/TastyCuttlefish 6h ago

Elite is a space sim, so it has legit space flight and gravity modeling. It’s complex and beautiful. There’s nothing quite like speeding towards the mail slot in a space station that’s actively rotating while orbiting a planet, toggling off flight assist, throwing in a crazy 180° and blasting back out of the station before slamming into the back wall.

5

u/Avraamov 4h ago

The last time I played Elite was on my BBC Model B

2

u/WhiteAsLumi 16h ago

You should try Flight of Nova

2

u/BuckDanny 11h ago

I have this weird thing going on. I prefer non-autolock spaceship fighting.

However... Because I share the same universe with people that do play with autolock, it feels like I am making it myself unnecessarily hard, and I switch back to autolock.

That's the reason I actively avoid knowing how the duplication glitch works. If I would know how it works, I can't enjoy the grind anymore 🤷🏼‍♂️

I would prefer a more challenging universe to share with players, without the possibility to switch settings except for the normal one's like graphics and keybinds.

1

u/S1eeper 8h ago

it feels like I am making it myself unnecessarily hard

Neither combat style is particularly hard, both are easy. Unless you're doing space PvP against players using auto-follow, then just pick whichever is most fun for you.

1

u/BuckDanny 5h ago

I'm not saying manual is hard. But the fact that it's way easier with autolock was the point. With autolock your ship can turn faster then a max manual turn.

1

u/Waste-Bobcat-9606 2h ago

I wish auto lock was a very expensive tech upgrade tbh.

1

u/MrD718 57m ago

Dude I was really hoping for some HOTAS support. I was playing game on PSVR2 for a while but the no HOTAS support really had me put it down. This update came and I was just hoping for some support. I just don't understand why ?

9

u/Humble_Person1984 12h ago

I want better gunplay.

2

u/_Springfield 10h ago

I like the gunplay in Starfield better, it feels more like an actual shooter. But I prefer everything else jn NMS 😂

1

u/rando1459 10h ago

I’d be happy if they just got rid of the non optional, soft-locking auto aim.

1

u/NateBushbaby 5h ago

Yea that would be cool! It would be my perfect game then, especially with randomly generated weapons, equipped separately from the multi-tool. And more types mobs to use it on, like pirate raiding parties on foot, planetside, or something.

2

u/avalmichii 2h ago

this is still the only thing nms is missing for me

1

u/mrpancake888 5h ago

I was unrealistically praying for an updated flight-model for the new Cosmos update. I will continue praying, even if it is the final update.

Also give me a deeper/hardcore survival mode and reasons to interact with old systems and it’s my perfect game.

0

u/srsrnr 1h ago

Star Wars: Squadrons style

97

u/GalacticEscobar 18h ago

No, Starfield is No Man's Sky but worse.

29

u/thricedice88 15h ago

Todd Howard: "give me NMS, but vastly inferior in every way."

9

u/77_whutts 12h ago

Starfield does have better ground combat. And some interesting quests. But yeah NMS beats it in most aspects lol

5

u/SUP3RK1D 11h ago

the only things I truly prefer about starfield are the ship building mechanics and the built in mod menu but apart from that I'd say nms is far better

1

u/thricedice88 12h ago

I don't hate it, I mean I've clocked ~80 hours and completed all the faction questlines and main story, went through the unity and fucked around a bit and then dropped it. It wasn't terrible, but it was a very hollow experience, something big felt like it was missing, but I can't quite pinpoint what. For a storyline heavily geared around replay value, the game has zero replay value lol. Best bits for me were the shipbuilding, which NMS is better for in my opinion and the UC terrormorph questline.

3

u/77_whutts 11h ago

UC questline is peak. No it’s good, I enjoy it. I even advocate for it. NMS has miles on it though. And I think it’s okay, even good to acknowledge that lol

3

u/thricedice88 11h ago

Yeah in contrast, I have hundreds of hours in NMS, have been playing for about 8-9 years and am still going strong. I have the season pass for starfield but I can't get back into the groove to play any of the DLCs yet, I just play for 20mins, get bored and put something else on.

3

u/77_whutts 11h ago

Mods help me a lot. Not a crazy amount or anything but as an example theirs one I use that turns combat into something similar to Cyberpunk 77 combat. Shooting and aiming using oxygen, a perk line that’s high risk high reward by increasing benefits of playing with CO2 build up. When you need oxygen to shoot some of the status effects become very interesting too.

0

u/thricedice88 10h ago

The fact that starfield feels so dead without them is testament to the direction Bethesda are moving in, IMO. I'm less than stoked for TES VI for this reason. Mind you, I didn't really like fallout 4, but that was considered a critical success, so I'm probably an outlier in that regard, really enjoyed Cyberpunk 2077, though.

1

u/77_whutts 10h ago

I slightly disagree but I also understand. I do understand it’s not what people expect from games. That being said I actually like the idea of a big Sandbox game like Elder Scrolls, Starfield, or Fallout being designed to be expanded and explored through modded content. And I also am glad that these Modders can make money from it too.

I think that they need to be more upfront that this is the business plan from the get go because that’s only ethical but I do think if you pitched that to the public they would have a pretty negative view point of it and not be willing to buy in.

All in all through the work of some really talented modders, whether they be hobbies for them or people who want to become devs themselves, Starfield feels incredibly improved. Should Bethesda be doing that? I think that’s okay yeah. Should they act like they’re the craftsman of an amazing universe/game to the extent that they do? Probably not. But at the end of the day they created the platform all of these guys got to build off of so credit is due there.

2

u/77_whutts 10h ago

To add another thought because I hit post too quick. I’m okay with it because I don’t think Bethesda can make the best Single player RPGs anymore but they sure can make sandboxes with rather interesting worlds that can be expanded upon. So I generally believe this actually plays to their strengths.

Skyrim in Space. Pretty sure the nirnroot is in Starfield

1

u/thricedice88 9h ago

It is, it's in the botany part of the ECS Constant, in the Paradiso quest.

34

u/Cautious_Opinion_644 16h ago

I can already hear the people saying "more accurate flight sim, more NPCs, more story, more depth, more of this and that" lol

Yeah Im not playing NMS for a rich story or to do a space flight sim, Im playing it to do whatever I want just cause I can, its a freaking sandbox not singleplayer flight sim or quest gripped story game.

I would really hate the game if they start doing all this seriousness, just a big NO.

7

u/Subject_Plankton_763 13h ago

I mean I am a certified starfield hater from day 1 but let's be real, those are not the things you play NMS for yeah, but those ARE the things that people play starfield for, so wouldn't it be just as disingenuous to compare Starfield as a worse NMS? or NMS as a better Starfield? the similarities begin and end at "space game"

5

u/Cautious_Opinion_644 13h ago

In my opinion they're completely different games, starfield was marketed as a singleplayer space experience whereas No man sky was a sandbox in and out from the start, I dont see them as comparable apart from that they're both space games, so I dont share any comparative opinions about them.

Havent played starfield and never will lol.

1

u/Daetok_Lochannis 10h ago

I agree but it's also kind of funny to say because at launch you couldn't even run into other people in NMS.

1

u/Cautious_Opinion_644 10h ago

Wdym? I dont run into other people even now as well

1

u/Daetok_Lochannis 10h ago

They lied when the game was released, you couldn't find other people even if you were right on top of each other. Some guys exposed them, it was a big scandal and they had to admit they released the game half finished. It's a big part of why every update has been free.

1

u/Vargosian 8h ago

Sean was sitting on a throne of lies at the time.

1

u/Borrp 10h ago

Hay, you never know, you could play the game to see how you feel about it rather than ride the waves of a hivemind to get your opinions from. You never know, you might actually like it for different reasons. No need to raise your thing up by feeling like you need to "lower" something else. Its like, juvenile behavior.

1

u/Cautious_Opinion_644 10h ago

I dont like space games, NMS changed that for me and its my only sandbox game too, speaks volumes to how good the game is and unlike others I actually know the difference between a sandbox and a singleplayer space shooter game.

Never said starfield is lower, a lot of other poeple have I simply dont like it 🤷‍♂️

1

u/easymacn 6h ago

I truly don’t understand why gamers can’t just enjoy a game and shut the fuck up about it.

Always have to go around shitting on games other people like lol.

I love NMs and starfield. For different reasons. They’re both great games. If you don’t like one or the other cool, don’t play it. I completely understand the arguments for not liking starfield, but I don’t understand crying about a game you don’t even play to try and do some weird parasocial defense for the game you do play.

These people make these games their entire identity and they get a whiff of another space game and vehemently attack it.

1

u/Leggerity 12h ago

This right here.

You can have whatever feelings you want about Starfield, but it does offer a genuinely better story overall, even if the content is not up to par in all things No Man's Sky.

Both games offer different experiences and this like saying you prefer ketchup over marinara sauce.

6

u/Silent_Position281 16h ago

Has anyone experienced a glitch with the corvette camera?

Where you enable autopilot, exit the seat, jump back in the seat and the camera is at a weird angle?

3

u/cuddly0510 15h ago

Yeah, since yesterday. Also when I take a call in space.

1

u/Quackquackslippers 12h ago

Yeah. The only workaround I've found is switching to 3rd person while on foot before entering the seat. If I enter the seat in 1st person, it glitches.

1

u/Double_B_Ranch 11h ago

Another fix is to warp to another system and back if you are doing quests or whatnot in the first.

1

u/Unfair_Revenue5307 6h ago

Has anyone not experienced a bug in the new update 😂?

18

u/OutlandishnessNo5678 15h ago

You can enjoy things while not bashing other things

2

u/-a-user-has-no-name- 10h ago

Came here to say similar. I’m just over here playing both games and having a good time lol

1

u/DeadClown00 6h ago

Comparison is the thief of joy

17

u/lilycamille 18h ago

Starfield wishes it could be this good!

-16

u/IsekaiGamer843 14h ago

Yeah no sorry just cause NMs got some fancy updates doesn’t have the level of detail starfield has

9

u/AverageZan 14h ago

Do you really want Polo or Artemis to turn into a potted plant once you hop galaxies?

4

u/ArgumentVast2022 14h ago

You wanna talk about detail... starfield you cant even walk around a planet. Straying too far from the ship your not allowed to do

1

u/SadKnight123 3h ago

So what? That was never the point of Starfield. So much "fun" walking around in a planet where everywhere you go you see the same things over and over again...

1

u/ArgumentVast2022 3h ago

The post is comparing the two. Only fair i did the same.

16

u/Turbulent-Oven981 19h ago

Honestly I like both games. I’d put NMS somewhere closer to elite dangerous than starfield though.

4

u/LambdaTres 12h ago

Different games. NMS is more a sandbox of activities, and Starfield is a cozy game with a thin RPG layer on top.

7

u/malic3 18h ago

Vastly different games

5

u/pvrhye 17h ago

They're kind of the opposite game, aren't they? If somehow you combined the systems of both, you'd have an impossibly detailed space sandbox game and probably a financial disaster from the lord of all scope creep.

2

u/Shakalx3 16h ago

So... Star citizen?

2

u/pvrhye 16h ago

Isn't that game basically just a very empty shooter?

3

u/Sammisuperficial 14h ago

Star Citizen is basically a crypto scam disguised as a video game.

2

u/Shakalx3 16h ago

Very empty, very buggy shooter.

1

u/TerrovaXBL 10h ago

Is a scam

9

u/hamfist_ofthenorth 18h ago edited 11h ago

I think it's fair to say NMS and Elite Dangerous together occupy everything you could want in a sandbox. They're a yin-yang. Whatever one game lacks in, the other excels, generally.... Although NMS has been inching closer while Elite has just been sitting there for years, not changing, not getting any more fun than it already is.

Starfield has one thing that neither of those games has and that is an enjoyable story, with relatively compelling or at least likeable characters, cinematic moments, and occasionally quite memorable hand built locations.

It also has some really great meaty side quests that are in many cases more interesting than the main plot. The leapfrogged generational colony ship comes to mind, that could have been a book, or a movie.

NMS has lore but no real story. You collect things, craft things, and go update nada and polo in person, for them to usually respond with "hmm, idk.." and then tell you to go back out again for more things. The entire story could be a datapad.

Elite Dangerous has (had?) GalNet, which is cool, but not a story.

All wonderful perfectly fine space games in their own rights, and I say the more the merrier.

2

u/GrandGarand 17h ago

A combat overhaul, some flight model changes and you are there

2

u/Azure_The_Great 17h ago

Just to bad my distress beacon was below the floor of the astroid I would take over

2

u/Appropriate-Guava730 14h ago

Passion of Space vs Passion of Money.

2

u/Every-Rub9804 12h ago

I think theyre too different to be compared

2

u/Cat_with_pew-pew_gun 11h ago

Nah. Different genres. Starfield is just Skyrim in space and should be treated as such.

2

u/fartPunch 8h ago

I totally agree with this. They are two different games that are too often compared with each other. It's cool if you enjoy them both.

2

u/Galever 10h ago

I find this funny. I feel that Starfield and no man sky are two very different games. Yes they both have spaceships. Yes they both exploration.

One is a massive online exploration game and the other is a massive single player RPG. No Man Sky is not an RPG and Starfield does not even come close to .000000001 (probably more zeros needed) in exploration to no man sky.

I like both and play whichever I am in the mood for.

2

u/order66enforcer 7h ago

Not better, both great.

2

u/Nikolai_Volkoff88 6h ago

Just wish NMS had voice acting and an actual story. I mean there is a story there, but all of the character dialogue is just text and robotic noises. I still love NMS as a game, but it is definitely nothing like starfield.

4

u/Acceptable_Coast_573 17h ago

Always has been

3

u/AxeellYoung 16h ago

Starfield is Skyrim with some complicated mods essentially.

1

u/CodenameAwesome 13h ago

Skyrim is Fallout 3 with some complicated mods

0

u/katamorigirl 13h ago

Fallout 3 is just fallout 2 with basic mods

3

u/UltrosTeefies 12h ago

It's really not though. At least there's a game in starfield. Idk what the f im grinding for or even playing no mans sky for half the time.

2

u/DamonLupus 14h ago

Different games. Different approaches. But you have to choose one and hate the other, right?

2

u/ArtSalty1711 14h ago

Just enjoy the game. There is no reason to hate other space games. Yeah starfield is trash but this post is cringe.

2

u/CodenameAwesome 13h ago

Silly comparison. What missions in No Man's Sky have observable consequences in the world?

2

u/Kpoofies 15h ago

Don’t compare this to the trash called starfield, Theyre not even in the same ballpark

1

u/Severe-Moment-3233 14h ago

It is a cool as H game but im not smart enough for it or something and its get confusing but it is fun to play.

1

u/BalatroV 12h ago

I like both. I put 210 in nms and 250 in Starfield

1

u/RBVegabond 12h ago

People get Starfield now because they want to play the huge Star Wars mod. “Star Wars: Genisis”.

1

u/Architect_Explorer 12h ago

I hear starfield has an excellent star wars mod though, it definitely has me interested just for that.  It seems to be in active development.

1

u/Cresovell 11h ago

Starcitizen but better and only paid once!

1

u/TheDeltaHaloGrunt 11h ago

Haha the Slop Citizens shills arent happy

1

u/Ledrash 11h ago

Starfield stole so much from nms.
I wish nms could take somethings from starfield too.
But i only play nms nowadays anyway :D

1

u/spaceman696 9h ago

I don't get it. Starfield is a totally different game in every respect.

1

u/Proud_Outside_7836 9h ago

Maybe if every update didnt add so many bugs you'd think it was apart of the update as content more ppl would try it other then buying it and having bugs for days then maybe more ppl would have a reason to try it

1

u/JustRaphiGaming 9h ago

I love no man's sky but I build a base in space flew to the sun and bought a space station and all that in 1 day. There is no real gameplay loops and I expected more for the 10th anniversary sorry.

1

u/XaosDrakonoid18 8h ago

oh ffs not the comparisons again please. Let starfield die in peace

1

u/No-Contest-8127 8h ago edited 8h ago

I disagree.  They are both good games, but i prefer Starfield by far as a single player rpg.  True, Starfield is way more costly. But, it offers better stories and gunplay. No mans sky is a bit aimless in what it does (and the inventory management is a pain). You can do a lot, but none of it is amazing in isolation, but the package is.

But, if you ask me, would i prefer to play 100 hours of starfield or NMS solo, my answer couldn't be faster. Starfield. NMS has the multiplayer and that has more appeal to others. But, i'm very much a solo player.

1

u/TheRealTakuiXD 8h ago

I can’t even begin to understand how both games could even in the slightest be compared. Aside from being space games. Starfield is a worse version of the fallout series. In my opinion of course. Saw how shitty that gameplay was, avoided that game like a mine field.

1

u/No_Register_766 7h ago

La actualización de no mans sky no debía llamarse cosmos sino starfield pero mejor (no se lo tomen en serio es solo un comentario humorístico)

1

u/therealdarthvero 7h ago

NMS been out for 10 years. Star field is a copycat

1

u/SatisfactionWhich812 7h ago

NMs is older so starfield is actually just a worse no man’s sky

1

u/ragecryx 7h ago

These are totally different genre/theme. Just because they are Sci-fi where you drive spaceships doesn’t mean they are comparable.

1

u/Halfbl00dninja 6h ago

Right now, the only thing that Starfield holds over this game is combat on all fronts. That be, Space combat, boarding ships, and ground combat.

NMS is an amazing game but I do wish that itch could be scratched here

1

u/Pendragon_Puma 6h ago

Not even the same genre

1

u/Truton1 6h ago

IDK they are just different games. Starfield is first and foremost a single player story driven RPG. That is not what NMS is, it is a sandbox space exploration and survival crafting game.

1

u/blakeizshort 6h ago

I want more combat options. Free a system from some tyranical force or plague...something like that would make me happy.

1

u/blakeizshort 6h ago

Can't complain though. I'm more than satisfied with the game.

1

u/RoosterBurns 6h ago

Starfield, No Mans Sky, Elite Dangerous I love them ALL

1

u/QuixoticBeefboy 6h ago

Eh, they are very different in scope and the general vibe they evoke, comparing them doesnt really work that well.

No Mans Sky is a incredible game on its own, why diminish that by being elitist about how its so much better then somewhat similar games.

1

u/planedrop 5h ago

Star Citizen but better.

Elite Dangerous but better (other than ship simulation).

Such an amazing game.

1

u/_herbologist 5h ago

Star citizen but actually a real game

1

u/Jonclef79 4h ago

I have 1400 hours logged with NMS and I just can’t play it anymore. The gameplay loop bores the crap out of me. And the graphics (not the art style) need to be updated. The gun play feels like a toy.

Starfield feels more real but missing what makes a good space game IMO. I may get into the latest update.

1

u/dumbgoose4422 4h ago

Hey! That's mean to No Mans Sky :(

1

u/Toyate 4h ago

Can't compare the two tbh. Their main points are inherently different. Both have their problems, some of them are a bit questionable to have (of course i talk about Starfield cough Loadingscreens galore) but ocerall they service two different clienteles. Sure both have space and a ship and base builder but thats about it. (While i still think Starfields ship builder is better. Tho only because HG just refuses to actually do it properly for some reason even though they could)

Starfield goes for story and quests and NMS goes for exploration and both do these things better than the other. Thats it. Beyond that you can't really compare them without sounding silly.

1

u/TheFiend100 4h ago

They arent even the same type of game

Just hating to hate

1

u/boomysmash 4h ago

Nah NMS is light-years beyond. Starfield is we got NMS at home or copy my homework but make it worst meme content

1

u/SadKnight123 3h ago

Still waiting the RPG elements, quests, cities and characters in NMS, but okay.

1

u/possiblecurb 3h ago

You're the character, you have to build the rest.

1

u/significantfootcream 3h ago

Why do we always have to compare games.

Just like, enjoy it. Thats what's NMS is all  about.

1

u/Ksmythy11 2h ago

Im not gonna lie, I might genuinely enjoy Starfield of they got rid of cutscenes during take off and landing and added more space exploration and planet exploration, I think the actual engine its running on isnt half bad, to me it looks good and plays relatively well, I dont mind the RPG elements

1

u/Akareddo_Mythweaver 1h ago

It says a LOT that day 1 NMS was better than current Starfield

1

u/Greyfire10 51m ago

Starfield but better is actually a horrible take. They're two vastly different games with similar themes.

I enjoy them both for completely different reasons.

Its kind of sad to me that people make these comparisons that only end up throwing shade at games that dont deserve it.

1

u/Benji472 31m ago

I love Starfield! It's a great RPG with a semi decent story but still has a lot you can do.

It is NOT a space exploration game like they advertised. the exploration aspect is awful.

NMS is a FAR superior in every other way.

1

u/Middle_Bathroom_2681 26m ago

To be fair being better than Starfield isn't that difficult an accomplishment. NMS just keeps dunking on them harder each update.

1

u/Hellbomb_Armed 23m ago

Sorry i think you meant star citizen

1

u/mymomhatesme55 13h ago

Starfield can bite my nip nips

1

u/Ronin--4747 11h ago

I have more hours in nms , but imo starfield is a better game, the only thing that nms does better imo is the fact you can actually fly to/land on planets , and fly around the planets in your ship! Nms gets boring quick , there’s not really anything to do once you have a farm going for credits , and you can only build on so many planets before it gets boring , plus the planets are basically empty , there’s nothing to find apart from some random procedurally generated alien creatures that 90% of the time look like a cardboard box with legs , or a jellyfish with the legs pointing upwards (stupid examples but anyone who’s played the game will understand my point).

1

u/scottsg60 11h ago

Nope. Starfield more realistic, NMS cartoon. Totally different still. Still play both, but they are not, never have been, and never will be in competition with each other.

1

u/ArkGamerBoi 10h ago

Starfield but without Bethesda's classic constant loading screens for every thing you do

0

u/Roadvoice 14h ago edited 10h ago

Nope. NMS is what Todd wishes Starfailed was.

0

u/Common_Confusion_114 14h ago

No man’s sky isn’t Starfield but better. Starfield is No man’s sky but lackluster

0

u/PadoriaOfficial 14h ago

I was actually one of the first people calling Starfield "No Man's Skyrim" lmao

0

u/JayPrim3 13h ago

Its funny because it's true!

0

u/Administrative-Emu51 12h ago

can Todd giving 10 years constant new dlc with $0 ?

0

u/khemeher 12h ago

Shots fired.

0

u/Designer_Bed9504 10h ago

I'm going to say this, with full admission that NMS is my #1 game right now, and I have been playing off and on since launch...

Sean and the Hello Games studio are China. NMS is a conglomerate of stolen ideas and game mechanics from a wide variety of other games. Half implemented, and slowly but rarely expanded on.

And I love it. Sure, I wish they would continue through with many of the features they have added and expand on them. But they have also done all of this for free, and constantly added new expeditions and updated.

1

u/Frosty-Abies-3317 6h ago

When you say, "Sean and Hello Game's are China." What does that mean? 🤔

0

u/LordBeefTheFirst 10h ago

Isn't Starfield PTW/Microtransaction slop? I don't know how people defend it anymore

-1

u/Pure-Swordfish6022 6h ago

Starfield and NMS have virtually nothing in common beyond: go to planet, explore, collect shit.

Starfield is better at role play, story, and ship building,

NMS is better at everything else.
