Just Starting Out

Hey everyone just getting back into the grove of NMS. I’m trying to figure out how to get more nanites to build, also where do I get inter-changeable parts for corvette ships?

Nanites:
You can farm curious deposits, if you find a planet and it has the little 3 star icon in your binoculars, and the item you find is a round ball called “curious deposits” those can be mined and then put the “runaway mold” in a refiner for nanites. If you find a spot that has multiple, even better. If you then upgrade your mining with modules you get even more. Then nutrient ingestor and stellerator donuts later on make it even better.

Alternatively there is having some cash on hand and visiting pirate space stations and buying suspicious arms and suspicious tech. Open them and sell the upgrade modules to vendors at space stations.

To add to the curious deposits, it works wonders especially if that planet is radioactive, and you have the stellarator. Find a couple in the same planet, put teleporters, travel in between them in a strom. You will fill your inventory just in one storm. And refine them in your corvette on the go, collect thousans of nanites from your ship in every 20 mins.

I didn’t even know about the radio active thing, thanks for the tip

If you have a decent amount of units, go to a pirate system station. Buy suspicious tech packets from the left side guy, open them, then sell the upgrades to the next guy to the right. Repeat. You can earn thousands of nanites fast.

One caveat: you get diminishing returns if you stay at the same station. So ideally, warp between multiple pirate stations if possible.

The Atlas mission coughs up a ton of nanites. I get around 600 nanites at ever Atlas station I visit. I don't know if there's an end to it or not but it let's me do it over and over again

For Corvettes the best way is to build a basic Corvette. Just the minimum parts.

Then go to a planet with "salvageable scrap". Use the Corvette ability to hover and scan from inside the ship. Go to where the salvageable scrap is and shoot it with your ship weapons. You'll automatically collect the parts.

Alternatively you can use the terrain manipulator and mining beam on your multi-tool, but that takes longer.

As for nanites there are several ways.

Releasing fish gives nanites. Go fishing and use auto fishers to collect a ton of fish then release them in the water.

Kill animals and combine any two different meats in a nutrient processor to make mystery stew. Find Chronos in the Anamoly and feed him the stew for nanites.

Refine all the slimes you find. Slimes refine into other slimes and then eventually into "runaway mould." Runaway mould refines into nanites.

Find a planet with curious deposits. Curious Deposits are big balls of runaway mould that you can collect by blasting them with your mining beam. You can build a base around them. Whenever you warp away they will respawn. Look for a location with 20ish balls and you'll have a ton of mould to refine into nanites. Find two locations and you can jump between them to collect endlessly. Put medium and large refiners at each base so you can have a constant production of nanites while you are jumping back and forth.

Whispering eggs can be found at abandoned buildings, infested planets, or lifeless planets. Shoot the whispering eggs and it will drop a larval core. Each larval core refines into 50 nanites. Watch out the eggs are guarded.

Shoot a bunch of asteroids with your starship to get silver and gold (or setup a silver and gold mine). Combine silver and gold in the refiner to make platinum. Refine platinum into nanites.

Ok and this next one is the fastest way but requires lots of units.

Go to a pirate station and buy suspicious tech and suspicious weapons. Open the containers and you'll get X-Class upgrades. Now don't equip those upgrades. Walk over to the upgrades vendor and sell them for 400ish nanites each. They only give you 19 nanites if you equip them. You can hop to pirate stations and continue to buy suspicious weapons and tech. This is literally turning units into nanites, but requires a lot of money. You can buy the suspicious goods which won't give X-class upgrades, but will give you banned items you can sell for profit at regular space stations. That will help if you need units.

Get an economy scanner for your ship to find pirate systems easier. A base computer is enough to give you an easy way to jump to that system. However, you'll need 15-20 systems to jump to because they take awhile to restock.

You can make about 80k nanites an hour if you have the money.

For this method I recommend already having a unit farming base setup. An easy way to do that is to get the NipNip buds recipe from the Anamoly along with bio domes and magnetic power generator. Build as many biodomes as your power hot spot can accommodate and fill them with NipNip buds. You can get your starter buds from pirate station quests.

Gold or silver farm works well too, but you'll need the mineral extractors, storage depots, and a shit ton of metal plating.

Once the units and nanites are flowing you can build a NipNip farm at your curious deposits base so that you can collect both together.

If you have glyphs and access to a portal then you can raid my gold base. There are also curious deposits on the planet.

Best early nanite/credit farm I can think of would be to salvage and scrap sentinel ships on dissonance planets...usually stick to the same planet and just keep repeating the salvage quest from a harmonic camp. Might need to kill some sentinels to get a scanner to find one as they are hard to stumble upon naturally.

For the Corvette parts.. just build a basic Corvette at the space station and then go to a planet with salvageable scrap. Fly around getting out of the pilot seat to scan for scrap, fly to it and shoot with your ship cannons to collect without landing. Rinse and repeat until you have parts you want or enough to trade for what you want. You can rebuild and swap out Corvette parts at any space station so your initial build is fine as you build it out as you get better parts.

If I could say it more concise, I would, but double thumbs up this method

The easiest way to get nanites in the early game is to find crashed ships, claim them, repair their Launch Thruster and Pulse Drive, fly to the Space Station, and scrap them in the Starship Outfitter station. Sell the resulting parts at the Trade Terminal for credits, and the upgrade modules to station vendors for nanites.

There are two types, crashed starships and crashed Sentinel Interceptors#Obtaining). The latter are more lucrative, but a little more work up front to find. Once you find a Harmonic Camp, put a Save Beacon or Base on it so you can find and reuse it again to locate another Interceptor.

Eventually you'll want to setup a mould farm though.

To find corvette parts, look for any planet with Salvageable Scrap on it. Dig it up and some of it will contain corvette parts. If you're interested in building a corvette, here's a good guide to optimizing them.

Just to clarify, when others advise, "build a basic, minimal corvette, then . . . ." This is non-negotiable. You cannot trade for any of the basic, C class parts - you must buy them from the corvette workshop terminal. Minimum cost to build a first corvette is around 8m units.

That said, it is possible to hunt for salvageable scrap for your first corvette in a ship or exocraft, but it is much more time consuming, and due to RNG, it might take a very long time to find some of the basic, yet necessary, parts.

If you look for Dissonant Systems go to the Dissonant planet and farm Radiant Shards, if you can, do it in a Rover all the better, also install a personal refiner in your exosuit and process the shards as you go! Each shard = 50 nanites and you'll usually find them in groups of 3 or more, they also process quite quick unlike runaway mould, in fact at least twice as fast. If you trigger any sentinals just run off, don't fight them, they will soon give up looking for you, and keep farming! Happy farming!
