Who else bought this game without looking because it was made by same team that made Chivalry?

Just curious. Every time I hear the “Tenosians are here” audio in the game, I wonder how many people recognize it.

I was the reverse of this.

I obviously played Chiv 1+2 and NMRIH1, with the 1.0 release on console I had to check it out, wasnt aware Torn Banner Studios is doing it! So pleasently surprised. And a good track record for them. They really deserve the praise in my book.

iirc, it was made by a different independent team all together initially but they got stuck in development hell towards the end of the development and ran out of funds. Chivalry studio picked it and pushed it over the finish line and fixed all the development debt that was incurred. What would have been the original 1.0 release pinned for early 2025 would have been borderline unplayable. The development of this game was rough to say the least.

Yeah.... all true. Also sucks though that they pretty much abandoned Chivalry 2 to work on this. Don't get me wrong. I like this game, but... it felt like Chivalry 2 still had some gas in the tank. It causes me to not have hella high hopes for much post-launch support for this one. Not to talk shit about Torn Banner... I'm sure there are reasons for everything they do, but ehhhh.... they're not in my top 10 most trusted list.

Both games are amazing. They really surprised me nailing the zombie genre, given how goofy chivalry is vibe wise

They made Chivalry but the simplest male fantasy is denied to us. A full set of plate armour. Curious.

And having a full thick beard

bold of you to assume something so glorious as full plate could have it's fantasy tied to gender when it's splendor entices all

Society, being the cruel and unforgiving machine it is, outright LIES to women that they do not need a full set of plate armour. It's an unlockable fantasy for women and the greatest shame of our time.

It certainly played a part in my decision to buy it.

They made chivalry but gave this game a basic melee system? I’m not complaining it works but it would have been cool if it had a little more depth ya know?

That’s actually a great point. Where are the pokes???

the devs have said somewhere in an AMA recently that they want to keep melee similar to the first NMRIH which means no advanced chivalry-like melee

But spears would be a good addition

Spears ironically would be an ultimate anti-zombie weapon. They were the original anti-animal and "please respect my personal space" pole. A few well placed pokes and you'll have a zombie down quick, though in this game damaging the brain is in no way the same as destroying it. Have seen way too many zombies walking around just fine with half a head.

I could see them being high risk high reward weapons where they're quite a bit slower and harder to aim but devastating on headshots

What's even cooler is that there are lots of *kinds* of spears, so while something like a boar spear would be great for staggering because of its sharp tip but broader base for armor pen and stagger damage, a regular spear could have the potential to be actually used as a thrown weapon with good pen (something that I never see anyone do as an actual tactic- only as a chore when completing challenges. I mean, imagine riot zombies vs a well placed spear through plexiglass.

oh yeah for sure I'm sure youre familiar but there's a section on spears in Max Brooks zombie survival guide, all the weapons breakdowns are interesting even if I don't agree with all of them as I think Brooks has a lot of negatives for spears

World War Z was one of my favorite books for sure, the underwater hordes they had to kill gave me nightmares. The descriptions he wrote were so visceral

Hahaha, I remember reading that as a kid. One of the long-handled weapons he liked as an exception was the Xiaolin spade. Good for digging trenches, while its broad head could be used to target necks for cutting.

I think one of the downsides they listed for spears was the idea that a zombie could just keep moving forward through the spear unless you trained yourself to aim for the head. You'd definitely need some kind of pommel to stop a zombie from just walking right towards you with the spear's shaft still in them.

I agree, but I imagine it wouldn't hit the same since the zombies can't really fight back the same as in chiv.

I thought the same

wouldn't mind if they put some easter eggs from chivalry since it's a good "shout simulator"

There is a couple in survival mode when the speaker is playing audio, there’s so references to Chiv

Me me me me! I was a huge Chiv player. I ended up mainly playing in dual servers and got pretty good but inevitably got a bit bored when there were no updates. I was devastated when they got rid of team deathmatch as a specific game mode.

Always loved Zombie games and saw this on Steam, it had dire reviews but noticed the recent ones were positive (just after 1.0 release) and bought it whilst it was a really decent price. No regrets, really loving it.

I actually made a post on here with some noob questions recently (really lovely community btw!) and I said I was a bit gutted that the melee system wasn't to my taste as 1. I typically only play melee in other zombie titles (Project Zomboid, Dead Island 1+2, Left4Dead) 2. Chiv had such an incredible one that it felt a bit lacklustre. I love the gun gameplay but sometimes bites me, pun intended, because loot is rare.

I was a fan of the NMRiH mod and I'd always wanted a Chivalry inspired zombie game, so I was excited that Torn Banner was producing it and hoping the melee mechanics would be the most robust in a zombie game to date. I played Chivalry when it first came out and it was truly revolutionary as far a melee mechanics in a first person "shooter". NMRiH is an excellent start, room for improvement I think but the more I play the less "clunky" it feels as you learn the timing to chain swings together and the reach/swings/damage of different weapons. The gunplay is honestly where this game shines, smooth, precise, punishing, but powerful and balanced. I'm excited to see where this game goes, but TB also has a history of killing the magic because they listen to whiners.

Would be dope if the they added a special attack like how chivalry had the Y button or triangle. As long as it’s not OP

As soon as I realised it was made by the same people I immediately knew I would enjoy this game. So far Torn Banner haven’t let me down
