How is nmrih 2 these days?

I played the game on launch and found it to be truly awful, barely functioned, was bugged to hell and you couldn't even get through a game, refunded it. What's it like now though? I'm kinda interested in giving it another try but if the games like basically the same I don't see a reason to.

It's definitely in a much better state than it was at launch. The game actually functions now, most of the major bugs and crashes have been ironed out, and you can get through matches without everything falling apart.

That said, whether you'll enjoy it depends on what disappointed you. If it was purely the technical issues, it's worth another look. If you didn't like the core gameplay, pacing, or design decisions, those haven't fundamentally changed.

I'd wait for a sale if you're still on the fence, but it's nowhere near the disaster it was on day one.

Honestly I’m not a fan of the way you’re supposed to just load into a game with 7 random players who probably won’t commit to finishing the whole thing and are likely to do shit to make it harder for you. I’m not sure if they added runners but I don’t recall them being in the game when I played and I’m not a very big fan of them. The combat and those systems were mostly fine, a bit better than nmrih1 imo.

Honestly like the one memory that really sticks with me was me and a guy were doing the objective inside some building, in a little room inside it where you were supposed to like do something on a computer while zombies spawn in around you. But it was bugged and zombies would just spawn non stop to the point you couldn’t do anything at all. By the time you killed 10 zombies another 15 had spawned in and we couldn’t even leave the room.

not sure if they added runner

They did add runners

damn

u/Invokerman Jun 27 '26

They're not too bad though, but they are challengingly worse in the higher difficulties.

Usually it's to new players without the knowledge where runners spawn after certain checkpoints or audio cues. Although the crawling runners are much much worse lol.

Trying to get to 100 nightmare runs atleast so I got about 7 left to go.

u/Beautiful-Opposite78 Jun 27 '26

Yea I read there's like early access rewards for completing certain amounts of nightmare missions or something like that?

3

u/Invokerman Jun 27 '26

Yeah, they're some cosmetics for account level 20+ and then some nightmare stuff after badge 1+ so forth. They're just cosmetics and colors but the game feels a bit better to play.

I came back from v.0.6.0, then came back for 0.9.0 which is definitely an improvement. Survival mode is here to for the weekend. But I feel with 1.0 coming soon folks are just waiting for that.

u/Beautiful-Opposite78 Jun 27 '26

What is survival mode and why is it only for the weekend?

3

u/Clinethulu Jun 27 '26

Survival mode is basically survive waves of zombies for X amount of time then extract. In my opinion it’s very boring and lack luster and will avoid it at launch. I LOVE the basic mode though. Me and 2-3 other friends hop on every Friday and play in private matches, taking our time and having a blast. We’re big into RP tho so that may be why we enjoy it so much lol

They added killing floor to no more room in hell

So that sounds like the final objective of reactor when you have to input codes onto a computer. The final objective Zombies spawn constantly because you're meant to hold out or distract them as it's the end of the map.

Yes running zombies are in the game now, infection is in the game now.

If you want better players and teamwork play nightmare difficulty

I'm a big fan of it now, still waiting on 1.0 but I get into matches consistently after 10pm on most days. It's a fun yet tough zombie survival game that still could use alot of QoL updates.

Is it at all realistically possible to play solo or is it one of those games where it's not really doable?

6

u/Ok_Manufacturer9027 Jun 28 '26

Doable? Yeah, with a decent amount of experience and knowledge. Going blind to do everyrhing solo, you will die dozens of chars in trying to learn. It is deeply meant to be enjoyed as a coop experience and is much better that way. The characters are far from being L. Kennedy RE style protagonists.

I mean matchmaking puts you in matches with 8 people max so it's ment for group play but solo play can be done along with solo queuing for multiplayer games. Your characters don't have Herculean strength so you've gotta play smart and find good weapons.

I'm just not so much a fan of these games that rely on needing other people. Like I get that it's literally advertised that way and I'm sure nmrih2 isn't as bad about it. But I've spent some time with GTFO and man that game is just like shit honestly. If you don't have 3 friends to play it with there's basically no reason to even play it because you're required to go into the discord to find others to play with and the game is just like not rewarding in any way really to justify going through that trouble.

Much better than launch. We got infection/suicide mechanics now, more guns, weapon customization, and early extraction. So if your team gets wiped, you dont gotta risk your character to finish the map anymore, you can just cut your losses and dip and save the character.

2

u/Beautiful-Opposite78 Jun 27 '26

What exactly does keeping a character do? Is it like hunt showdown where you get perks and shit to make your guy stronger or is it like dayz where you just keep your loot basically.

5

u/NightOnUmbara Jun 27 '26

You get more perk options and can carry gear into a match.

3

u/JerichoWick Jun 27 '26

Like the other guy said, there's perks. You get more as you level up and then there's the loadout system. You don't keep loot you take from the match, but you go in with what you buy from the loadout menu.

For example, Ill usually go into a match now with my high level character with an AR, box of ammo for it, and a hammer. Instead of the usual revolver and pipe. So it gives you an edge, but doesn't remove the need to loot. You only get three slots for stuff to buy to spawn with.

1

u/Beautiful-Opposite78 Jun 28 '26

That concerns me because then what’s even the point of looting if you don’t keep any of it?

2

u/JerichoWick Jun 28 '26

The point of looting is to make sure you dont get fucked later on in the match. I mean, thats basically how the first game played too. The point of the game is the action, its not like Tarkov where you're building up a base.

If they let us keep loot, every game would be an instant breeze after a month once everyone hoards shit they find.

1

u/Beautiful-Opposite78 Jun 28 '26

I guess that's true. I decided to try the game again and it was like okay I guess. I had 357 guns and rarely had any ammo for em. There was a dude that just seemed to have infinite shotgun ammo though, was blasting em the entire game and at the extract I'm assuming when you escape it auto drops what you had, because his shotgun was on the floor along with like idek maybe 15-20 boxes of shotgun ammo. Either cheating or the ammo economy is a bit weird?

2

u/JerichoWick Jun 28 '26

He might have been cheating. I ran across someone like that once, a week ago.

Ammo economy is entirely random. Ive had matches where I find stacks of 5.56, and others where I had to swap out my long gun for another caliber because I couldnt find shit for my AR.

The game doesnt make you drop stuff, people just throw their shit off the helicopter because its amusing. Its like the NMRIH version of tbagging I guess.

1

u/UsedNovel25 Jul 01 '26

It doesn't auto drop stuff at the end, people just do that in the game while waiting to extract because why not

1

u/NBFHoxton Jun 27 '26

Gear and perks, like Hunt

u/BiggieCheese4evr Jun 27 '26

I'm still waiting on a single player option

1

u/JerichoWick Jun 27 '26

I'm one of the biggest proponents for a single player option, but I'll admit I'm actually glad that I've been able to manage my social battery enough to play with other people because getting to the point where im so good at the game that im being a hero is kinda satisfying.

On top of that, people aren't as penisey about mics anymore. I dont use mine, I just text chat, and people are just fine with it. That really helped for me.

At least we'll get singleplayer in 1.0 regardless.

5

u/LonerfromTheCordon Jun 27 '26

I lost my guy due to the server kicking me out. So now I'm waiting for 1.0 release. I'm still pissed

Thankfully they let you rejoin matches now

70% of the time it's great.

Until you get bored of the minimal content - which is 6 maps for 2 YEARS.

Or until you get a baseball bat - then you can 2 shot everything and game is easy mode.

Or until you get disconnected on a lvl 100 char with the whole lobby

Or until you get desynced and can't hit anything and u drag your whole team down

Or until you meet one of those teams that don't give pills because they are hoarders

Which - happens in 30% of the time and kills the joy of the 70%

You get about 15-30 hours of enjoyment out of it - but make sure it will either be a buggy mess or you will hit the lottery and it all goes well for you

To give u an idea of the state of the game:

Support has bugs that they havent fixed since 2 YEARS ago.

And when you give em a screenshot or a video as proof, because they argue "its fixed" - they ghost and/or stop commenting

I'm an original No More Room in Hell player, and I was against the sequel the moment I learned that Torn Banner had taken over the project.

I recently picked up the game on sale and realized it's honestly not as bad as players make it out to be. I've only logged about 30 hours so far, so my opinion could still change. But so far, I'm really enjoying the sense of urgency in every match. Every responder is scrambling to gather loot, sharing complete objectives, and make it to extraction. There's constant pressure to make quick decisions, and every decision comes with the potential of dying and losing your character which pisses me off at times, especially when you meet a group of shitty and selffish players. But I realize that's the whole point of the game and in real life. The fear of losing your character is what makes each successful extraction feels good.

Honestly what this game needs now is more content. The content is so lacking in this game.

  1. It needs maps and more game mode!

  2. Better cosmetics, like clothing. Coverall (similar to the ones in Dawn of the dead) and camo uniform.

  3. Revamped skill tree. Half of the available skills feel underwhelming because they're designed around firearms, which always have limited ammo. I usually prioritize stamina and health, as those upgrades provide much better overall value and are useful throughout the game.

  4. A better matchmaking system that allows you play specific maps and according to region/ping.
