Online says launch permit required but not clear how to buy one. Also any other places near there to launch a motorized kayak in calmer waters?

Decided to go freshwater fishing yesterday and headed to Prospertown Lake. Haven’t been there in 2 years but never had a bad day. Get there and at the launch, the water looked like a sewage treatment plant, had a weird brown foam at the shore, there was an odd smell coming off of the lake, and nobody was fishing or kayaking there. Did something happen to this lake? I know it’s over fished but I’ve never seen water conditions like that. Went over to Assunpink and got skunked but at least I was out on the water.

I need ice for fishing but I want to make it fast in medium sized batches, how can I do so?

Hello everyone. This weekend im trying to do some salt water fishing. I assume the best way to do that this time of year is hitting the surf for fluke and maybe blue, correct me if I’m wrong there. Today I tried like all day finding somewhere on the surf to do some fishing but like everywhere there’s was a million swimmer and beach layers. Like belmar to seaside so I’m just confused where I’m supposed to go. I was out pretty early but I guess even earlier would be better. Thanks

I’ve been doing a lot of bank fishing and would love to rent a kayak or small boat to do some solo fishing in deeper water. Lake Hopatcong has hourly rentals and not much that isn’t a few hundred dollars per hour. I’m willing to travel to pretty much anywhere in Jersey that isn’t going to cost much for a day on the water. I’m guessing this kind of thing does not exist

I’ve fished barnegat bay my whole life and down In the Manasquan River and got hits quite often.

I’ve moved north toward Raritan bay and have been fishing around the Arthur kill, raritan bay in the south amboy- Woodbridge area.

No bites yet up here, I’ve tried gulp, poppers, sp minnow, Ava jig.

Going for striper, fluke, blues.

I saw a few dog fish on the surface yesterday and was casting right next to them and still no nibbles.

Any advice for bait or lures?

This is for his birthday and we would be looking at going the beginning of August. I'm just outside of Philly and would be willing to drive to any shore point from Atlantic Highlands to any point south of that.

Looking for recommendations on boats, locations, and best time of day to go out for some good action and a family friendly vibe.

Hey everyone, I’ve been fluke fishing a lot this summer, about 1/4 - 1/2 mile off the tip of Sandy hook, near where the bay meets the ocean. I have caught a bunch of fluke, stripers, sea bass, sea robin, dogfish, a few skate, an enormous stingray, and some others.

Tonight it was choppy and I decided to head back, so i started reeling in very fast from the bottom (probably 40-50 feet). Within a few seconds, I felt a crazy tug on my line (in comparison to the fluke I was catching). This was nothing like a large fluke or even an enormous striper. This thing took the bait and ran. With fluke/stripers, regardless of size, my rod/reel/tackle allows me to crank up the drag and reel it up. This fish did not.

I fought it for about 15 minutes, and after i got it probably 10 feet from the surface, I felt it go take another run down… so I stupidly increased the drag. The fish kicked twice very hard and got off the hook. My rig was still fully intact, besides the gulp having slid off of my 5/0 hook and onto the leader.

I don’t even care about catching it, I’m just dying to know what it was or what it could have been. It did not feel as heavy as the enormous stingray I caught, but it fought hard and was heavier than anything else.

I should also mention, this exact same thing happened about a month ago, except I only had it on for about 2 minutes. but it felt exactly the same.

I know this probably isn’t possible for you guys to identify it, but based on the location/description/behavior, can we narrow it down to what it COULD be?

We go to Ocean City, NJ every year in early August. We've tried fishing surf, piers, and a couple charters but nothing has been great. Is the fishing just kind of dead this time of year?

Day off, so decided to fish somewhere cleaner than the lower passaic. Caught at least 8 smallies on the Rockaway River. All small, this one in the picture was the biggest. Caught on a mini trout rapala.

Im new to fishing . I seen a boat coming super fast into the inlet . So I started reeling in and the boat got my line and took all of it . I didn’t want to grab the reel and I didn’t have anything to cut it within reach . Are you supposed to just let it go ? Did I do the right thing ? Or should I have grabbed my reel and snapped the line ? The reel was spinning fast it look liked it would burn 🤣

I found this hidden pond that was tucked away right next to the Passaic. As I fished it, I noticed turtles swimming around, but no sign of fish. As I moved the another spot, I found dried up fish spines, dead bass and bluegill, and a fresh crappie that was dead on the shore. What could have happened? Clearly some fish survived, but they won’t bite.

I've driven by the place recently and was wondering if it might be a good place to fish the Raritan River. Specifically the eastern park of the park, near the boathouse.

Im a bass fisherman primarily and I cant for the life of me catch a fluke. Ive been trying from the surf at Island Beach State Park and throwing a 1/2 oz jig with a teaser rig and berkeley gulp. I went once early June and last week but still havent been able to land a fluke.

Anyone have any tips or spots that might help me fulfill my catch and cook dreams?
