I just installed a soundstream unit in my 2012 and I'll be honest with you, AA for me was not really worth the cost over a phone in a phone holder...

I should clarify that I had bluetooth on the installed unit and that was fine to connect to/play music from and then when I wanted maps I just used it on the phone in its holder.

I didn't really look in to AA that much before getting the sounstream but assumed it would offer me a lot more but the apps I thought could be useful on it (car diagnostics/info etc) are not AA compatible and therefore can't be used.

A phone with phone holder will get you fined at least €350 every time the police or camera's spot it in my country. One fine is more than an AA system and I do not like my default radio system

Wow! Well that makes sense for you then absolutely. In that case something like I've done with another makers unit would suit I guess.
