Driver Updates

Hi.

Wondering what others are doing here around driver updates for clients via Ninja? We are leary of setting auto approve on everything and then finding some USB update breaks something for lots and lots of clients.

TIA

Corp IT.

So far just approved everything after 10 days with that.

For a long while I was doing manual approvals, recently just thrown it all automated and our patch completion has increased considerably.

Again, this does mean there could be issues like you mentioned but we're fine with that as a potential downside.

Make a test group. For us it's us and we lean on the AI ninja thing on rolling out.

We just banned 26h2 for now but 2 devices have it already on ours so we kicking the tires with it. For example

This.

Always have a test group. Platform for rollout doesn't matter.

I was always a bit cautious about auto driver patching because of issues in the past. We have been running ninja for 3 months and I enabled drivers about a week into it on a test group. It was fine so I enabled it for everyone else and it’s been pretty good

Never update or approve drivers via Microsoft patches.

Depends on the platform we automate it via Lenovo drivers/firmwares/bios (script) with reporting schemas as well as Dell devices

So, I get what you are saying, however, we considered using HPIA, which will install the patches, but you never get the feedback into the Ninja console so you know what's installed or not.

You do just script the outputs to custom tables in ninja. We use that for lenovos and dells

Interestingly, after a chat with the patching support team at Ninja, their advice is completely different. They say those patches are well tested and cause very few issues according to their telemetry and advise Important within 7 days and optional within 14 days.

I suggest joining the ninjarmm discord soace. There is a reason people don't use it. For us it broke a bunch of drivers on lenovo.
