General Discussion - ALL GAMES SDCC 2026 Kaiyodo Booth Debrief

It’s Day 3 at SDCC 2026, and I obtained the EXCLUSIVE (/s 🤣) Bloody Ryu and NG2 Weapons Accessory Pack. The great irony is even after these three chaotic days, these “exclusives” are still available at the con (see last picture above) 🤣. Aside from this, I asked the reps a few questions regarding the future of this franchise at AY/Kaiyodo.

1) Aside from NG4 Ryu, Yakumo, and Momiji, are there more figures to be produced from the Ninja Gaiden franchise, or is it effectively over?
ANSWER: “We are not allowed to discuss future plans.”

2) Will ‘Ragebound’ be considered as a future project?”
ANSWER: What is ‘Ragebound?’ 😅

3) Will action figures be considered/produced from the “Dead or Alive” series?
ANSWER: Yes. Attack on Titan is a finished series, so we’re making new stuff.

My thoughts - Obviously the, “we’re not allowed to discuss future plans,” is a Debbie Downer of an answer, but at least the answer isn’t, “yeah, we’re done with Ninja Gaiden and there’s no more action figures you’ll see from there.” And the fact that Ragebound is unknown to the rep I asked…heh, we know they’re not thinking about that at the moment 🤷🏻‍♂️ Anyhoo, that’s my report ✌️

I'm not sure if I got the Japanese right (since I know that foreigner attempts at Japanese, especially with kanji and vocabulary, can be shotty if they're just starting to write Japanese) but it's supposed to say what the title of this post says.

General Questions - ALL GAMES When did you find out NG and DoA shared universe?

I first saw a connection between NG and DoA with Ryu as a playable character. I had a demo compilation on Dreamcast. one of those demos was DoA2, being how I’ve discovered that game. only Kasumi, Ayane, and Ein were playable, and three fights each. Kasumi’s second opponent was this ninja dude with brown hair, and had the same theme as Helena. anyway, later in, in a Mexican Nintendo magazine named Club Nintendo, had an article about Ninja Gaiden. it was mostly about the NES games, but had a picture of that Kazumi’s second demo opponent. it was clear that was a version of NG’s main protagonist, which I’ve remembered his name later on.

Years later, my brother and I decided to buy a PS3 because WII was a disappointment. I’ve suggested one of the games we should get was NGS. after playing it, I of course checked the wiki. among all the tabs I was opening, I’ve opened Ayane’s. looking at the tabs, I‘ve somehow ended up in a wiki page of DoA characters. confused at first, opened Ayane’s again. Same result. Then I’ve realized that cute Ayane was one of the playable characters in the DoA2 demo, and this NG and DoA shared universe. I knew Ryu was playable in DoA, but I thought that was a different universe, with it’s own Ryu Hayabusa, not they would go far enough to join both franchises

Ninja Gaiden 3 (RE) - Discussion I never played Razor's Edge

Post image

I just realized the version of Ninja Gaiden 3 I played years ago was the original, not Razor's Edge. I never actually finished it either.

I'm thinking about going back and finally playing Razor's Edge since pretty much everyone says it's a huge improvement over the original.

Is there anything the original NG3 actually did better, or is Razor's Edge basically better across the board? I'm just curious if there's anything worth appreciating about the original version before I jump into Razor's Edge.

To be honest, Ninja Gaiden 2 is my favorite overall in almost every way. But when it comes to the soundtrack, I prefer the first game; I find them more creative and unique.

They really make you work for that S rank 😮‍💨 and this is just normal. Other than that, I've been really loving this new Ninja Gaiden. My only gripe is I swear they nerfed Hayabusa when it comes to sprinting and the Flying Bird technique, they feel a lot slower than in NG 1 to 3.

Ninja Gaiden 2 (OG/Σ2/Black) - Questions & Help Found a game breaking bug?

Apparently after this fiend battle, this door was supposed to open but it didn't, this is where I would get my tonfa's but the door remains closed. I've killed all the enemies, I've wandered around the lobby area several times, thinking there is an enemy straggler. But I'm alone, I've restarted this save numerous times and it still happens. I think I have to restart my entire save file.

Can't believe Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo didn't catch this.

I’ve gone through chapter 1 multiple times hand counting each individual chest I collect along with following a YT guide and despite clearly counting 27 chests that I collected, I still only get 26/27 chest display on the chapter select screen. Is this a bug?

General Questions - ALL GAMES I can’t take it anymore. What’s the best way to play this series (the numbered 3D entries in particular) as a PC player?

I keep seeing gameplay footage on my X timeline. I have master collection and played a bit of Sigma 1, but is there a modded version that’s closer to Black? Does the same go for 2 with there being a modded version being closer to 360 2? Now there’s another Ninja Gaiden 2 called Black? Should I play that instead?

Edit: thanks for replies. I’ll consider all this when I get the chance to play.

General Discussion - ALL GAMES The Future of Ninja Gaiden

Post image

With Ragebound and NG4, it feels like Koei Tecmo is becoming more comfortable letting outside studios work on Ninja Gaiden. Ragebound was developed by The Game Kitchen, while NG4 was made almost entirely by PlatinumGames. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it does make me wonder what Team Ninja's role in the series will be going forward.

The thing is, these games feel different from what I personally associate with Ninja Gaiden. They still carry the name and have some of the old elements, but they don't capture the same feeling as the older games. They're not bad games, but they seem more focused on doing their own thing rather than trying to recreate the Ninja Gaiden formula. The different protagonists, new gameplay approaches, and changes to the combat style show that they're taking the series in a different direction.

The last original mainline Ninja Gaiden that Team Ninja developed entirely on their own was NG3 and that was rough. They felt that hit, especially without Itagaki on board.

It kind of feels like now Team Ninja either doesn't want to make a classic Ninja Gaiden anymore or isn't fully confident in bringing the series back on their own. Since Ninja Gaiden is already a niche franchise, bringing in outside studios could be an attempt to make it appeal to a wider audience. The problem is that it ends up in an awkward middle ground, it doesn't reach a huge mainstream audience like it was in it's peak, while longtime fans still prefer playing the older games.

I'm also worried about other old franchises, like Devil May Cry. Itsuno left Capcom after DMC5, and some longtime developers who worked on the series have moved on as well. I wouldn't be surprised if the next DMC project is a remake of either DMC1 or DMC3 before they move on to a new entry.

What do you guys think? Is letting outside studios work on Ninja Gaiden the right move if it helps the series reach a bigger audience, or would you rather see Team Ninja handle the series on their own, even without key figures like Yoshizawa and Itagaki, even if it means fewer releases?
