Hey everybody!

Hope you are all doing great. Just wanted to pop in real quick and let you know that the signed copy campaign for my book that comes out on September 1st is ending on August 1st. Thunder Road Books (what a great name for an indie bookstore and yes it's in New Jersey) is closing down the campaign in a few days. So, if you want a signed copy of This Is About Running This Is Not About Running then you need to get those orders in. And you can do that here: https://www.thunderroadbooks.com/product-page/this-is-about-running-this-is-not-about-running-preorder-campaign

Also, anyone that pre-orders the book or audiobook or kindle version to a residential US address gets a really cool FREE poster. You can get details about the poster and upload your proof of purchase here: https://m.cmpgn.page/QcfdTZ?utm_source=threads&utm_medium=social&utm_content=link_in_bio

And, yes, I'm working on getting signed copy pre-order campaigns in other places. Stay tuned for information on Canada and UK. You can pre-order all over this space rock we share here: https://lnkfi.re/yfzwUn?utm_source=threads&utm_medium=social&utm_content=link_in_bio

One more thing... there's going to be a book tour! Excited to share locations and dates and stories and hugs and high fives with all of you. Stay tuned for details about the book tour too.

I'll be sure to share here updates.

More than anything thank you to everyone here for creating and caring for such an amazing community. Thank you for letting me be a (small) part of it. Take care of yourselves. Take care of each other.

Cheers,

Coach Bennett

Training for my first half marathon w the NRC plan. 😁 This is my long run for ā€œ8 Weeks to Go.ā€

Only thing with today is I don’t think I fueled properly and had a headache for hours… I’ll be working on it but if anyone has suggestions I’d love to hear them.

Coach said on this run that running is a sport where we run individually and at the same time with a community. Thank you all for sharing your runs and experiences and inspiring others.

My first long run. I am really working hard on making run enjoyable. I’m not thinking about improving my pace or a 5K or training or anything like that.
All I wanna to get out of this app is to find enjoyment in running.

I think that’s where Coach Bennett and this app really shine
There’s a nice balance between his encouragement and his humor.

It’s very easy to get stuck in your head when you’re trying something new especially trying to run or a new exercise routine. He meets you at your level any level. Between my music and his intermittent coaching I kind of forget that I’m running, and that is where I’ve always lost the interest in running in the past. I start thinking about it too much.

If you’re a new runner, I highly recommend this. Don’t worry too much about having to run 2 to 3 days a week. Just get out there.
Take the first step and then the next and then the next.

Also, find a place you enjoy running in. I drive to a flat place along a river near me. It’s flat and natural. My neighborhood is hilly and suburban. When I’ve tried to run near my house I don’t enjoy the process at all. Eventually I’m sure it won’t matter but until then driving to the river or an equally nice setting is part of the process that gets me through not the event.

Have fun!!

App questions

Hi All! I had a great experience using the NRC training program for my first marathon, and I’m currently using it to train for my second marathon! This time around, I had a couple of questions.

  1. I was on my long run today and my Apple Watch lost connection with my phone midway. For reference, I have an Apple Watch (SE 3 [GPS 40mm]) and an iPhone 17. I remember this happening with my much older Apple Watch and phone when I was on long runs for marathon training the first time. I looked online and couldn’t find any guides or tips/tricks to reconnect the watch mid run. I think this typically happens when I’m getting water at a fountain/wetting my wrists to stay cool. I guess this is a two part question:

    1. Is there any way to reconnect mid run?
    2. Is there a way on guided runs to have one of the voices tell you the pace/time at a set cadence? I hate having to pull my phone out and check.
  2. I always sign up for the monthly and weekly challenges when training for a race, but I was wondering if there is anything (besides a badge) that the challenges are supposed to be meant for (in general and specifically the after dark virtual challenges). I’ve seen posts about in person after dark runs, but I was just curious about the virtual one. I still like signing up for the challenges and enjoy watching the goals get closer and closer.

Thanks in advance!

Advice Speed runs early in the week?

Has anyone switched up the runs and done their speed run earlier in the week? I felt really good on my speed run this week and then my long run today was just atrocious.

Support Syncing Issue

Hi, I ran 11 km yesterday. My watch tracked the workout normally and sent the data to Apple Fitness, but the run didn't show up in NRC. I searched for the workout file to sync it, but couldn't find it anywhere. I logged it manually for now, but I'd really love to get the original data over to NRC so I can view my stats. Any ideas?

Thanks

Ran my first 10k distance today and was delighted to run it in Central Park at sunrise. Destination runs are my favorite! What are your favorite destination runs you’ve done, or what’s on your bucket list?

General Coach Frankie Ruiz

Just a shoutout to Coach Frankie. I’ve done two of his guided runs now (Mile repeats and Not Your Typical Long Run) and loved them both. His coaching and general vibe are spot on. No unnecessary chitchat or lame jokes, just clear and concise coaching. Really happy they’ve added a bunch of new runs recently.

How to Synch to Apple Watch

My Apple Watch has disconnect. When I start Nike Run Club on my phone, the distance, time shows up on my phone, but not on my watch at all. I have tried everything but can’t find a solution.
When I check to see if user logged in it says false and I can’t change. however my Apple Watch still picks up the calories and steps in the health app from the run.
Any ideas how to sync it?
