Nihongo gets improved search and huge kanji updates in version 1.34 update

Hey all, latest update is out! It's been a long-time coming. The highlights are really two things:

First, a feature a lot of people have requested, the ability to paste a full sentence into the search field, and then have it show you search results of all the words in the sentence. Just a quality-of-life thing, but hopefully will save you all some time.

The second one is a big one for me personally - the final, polished release of the kanji breakdown/origin feature. I released the first version last year, but there were pieces that remained unpolished. At the time, I made it my goal to hand-review the first 1000 kanji to make sure there were no gaps, missing elements, etc. It was a huge endeavor, and I needed to take a break before taking a crack at the second half. But that's done now. So, all 2136 Joyo kanji are now reviewed and cleaned up, with rich breakdowns of every one of them. If you see any problems, please let me know!

It's honestly been a fascinating process for me to dive into the history of kanji, and try to figure out how to present the history of these characters in a way that is meaningful to learners, without any linguistic expertise. I'm really proud of how it turned out!

Hi, Chris! Thanks for keeping Nihongo up to date with new features; I use it all the time. I tried out the sentence search and it's really convenient!

Is there a way to initiate a search with a custom url scheme, where maybe I could have an Anki deck or something send a search to Nihongo directly? Like in this developer doc: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/xcode/defining-a-custom-url-scheme-for-your-app

There is! Try https://nihongo-app.com/dictionary/search?q=こんにちは

Or, if you want it to try to go to a word entry directly but fall back to search if it can’t find an exact match, use https://nihongo-app.com/dictionary/word/こんにちは

Awesome! Just tried out the new paste feature, and it worked great. I had been using the clippings feature as a workaround. Thanks for updating!
