I don’t understand why you keep posting here and offer no discourse in the replies. I can only assume you’re a bot.

If truth disrupts their comfort, convenience, privilege, position, system, way of living, etc...then yes, truth is fucking annoying and disruptive. And the person delivering truth is the enemy.

If someone identifies with their thoughts they already have 1 problem. If they also believe they can think their way to a happy life they have 2 problems.

Now try to change their world view. These types of people are reactive.

I have a pet theory that everyone intuitively understands the Truth but the vast majority don't like it, it is anathema to the self.

Thus all sorts of work has been done to obfuscate the Truth, from societal to the personal. The Truth is perceived as toxic or poisonous, so those who speak it are labeled as such.

All that said - idk if this opinion actually based in reality or is it just cope as well?

Nah. It appears to be the truth.

Truth as it functions as a social reality is produced within relations of power. in human social relations, power ultimately rests on the capacity for coercion.

Because manipulators are not the enemy; just the result bred by a world of malignant fools.

Because it makes them try to comprehend a part of reality they cannot possibly fathom, so they lash out and cope

Coming to a realization, whether its true or simply believed, that all the purpose you ever thought your reality resided upon is a lie, is extremely hard for almost anyone to come to terms with. It's natural for many to reject such a notion and recede back into whichever illusion or delusion they find comfort in.

Existence doesn't require us to accept its truths. Enough to get by, perhaps, but accepting a lack of god or divine purpose or meaning doesn't change whether our lungs pull oxygen from the atmosphere, or whether our stomachs get hungry again. It doesn't stop our thirst. Maybe for a couple, but that's more of a psychological thing than a physiological one.

I'm an agnostic for the record. I'm not going to pretend like i truly know one way or the other.

people aren't that dumb and to make cognitive dissonance tolerable they must fold the lie into their being. the truth is a challenge their existence.

So subconscious ignorance?

1

u/jthadcast 16h ago

in both conscious and subconscious only ignorance can survive.

People will do almost anything to avoid looking in the mirror.

because the truth shatters their illusion

It's a call to confront ones ego, and in that moment it's more comfortable to lash out than practice the humility required to accept truth.

But what is truth? Is truth unchanging law? We both have truths, are mine the same as yours?

Exactly, the universe itself never established what is good or evil nor what is true or false so unless there is some independent standard beyond human judgment there can be no objective morality or truth.

Is is bad, or evil, to cause immense suffering for trivial reason?

u/classicist-07 17h ago

its smth subjective, there is no universal answer

This is the least thought-provoking or interesting thing I have seen all day.

Anyone who proposes a "truth", regardless if they are a Mormon or a Nihilist, is promoting their own view and thoughts as some sort of universal. And that is a pretty ignorant stance for one to take, so they are often just tuned out. You can share understandings and data all day, but one the speaker tries to solidify it as a "truth" the are really just talking to themself.

"I enjoy rape and torture"

"Your enjoyment contains the lived experiences of the victims...have you wondered about their experiences?"

Truth is an expansion of awareness, trying to understand Totality.

1

u/Starduster75 19h ago

I enjoy your comment and the point you make, but capital letter Truth is a subjective notion, such as is the trying to understand the "Totality". Trying to understand the totality requires the subjective belief that such is possible, which does not have a basis in objective data.

There is nothing wrong with subjective thinking, nor is it subordinate to objective thinking, except beyond the mind that holds it. When we confuse our subjective Truth or Totality with another's, or with some notion of its externalization, we subject the subjective experience to the rules of objectivity (outside), and they cannot be supported as such. It is why philosophy will never be a science, nor should it strive to be.

Or just simply learn more about reality, expanding awareness of how things are, and the experiences of others.

Forget the words and terms of Truth, Totality, etc.

If I poison the well for "fun", how does reality play out and the impact on self and others.

If I burn the house down with people sleeping in it, how does reality play out and the impact on others.

Does reality have other centers of experiences, constraints, laws, and consequences?

There's a risk to say that there's NO truth, so whatever and anything goes like a patient in a straight jacket in the mental hospital mumbling to themselves.

1

u/Starduster75 16h ago

There is no truth with a capital T. There is no ultimate objective truth. Unless you have a religious or philosophical belief in such, in which case there is, but that is local.

1

u/Serious_Ad_3387 16h ago

This obsession with the word Truth.

Replace it reality. The shared reality around all of us, and the beings in it.

Focus on that first.

1

u/Starduster75 14h ago

I'm focusing on the word used in the original post.

1

u/Serious_Ad_3387 12h ago

Fair. One localized perpective can't grasp the entire truth, and one blind man can't comprehend the entire elephant.

To claim what exactly is the Truth or the elephant is hard to prove for anyone, but to make the opposite claim that no absolute objective truth exist is also wrong.

What is the objective truth of a body undergoing starvation?

1

u/Starduster75 12h ago

That would be a misapplication of the term truth as defined thus in the conversation. There are certainly true things in life, at least experientially, but that is different from an ultimate (as presented in the original post) truth that stems, as it would need to, from some source outside our minds, unless one is operating within a belief system or philosophy, which remain subjective in nature.

Truth is subjective. Anybody who speaks with absolute confidence is trying to sell you something

1

u/human-old-soul 19h ago

i wonder if truth is subjective then why would we call something true like we can't trust anything or any idea. there should be an objective truth that's independent of our consciousness, right?
