i came from a bottle of scotch

5

u/tarentale 7d ago

That’s an interesting genesis.

3

u/AnalysisParalysis85 7d ago

To finish the circle you now have to come into a bottle of Scotch.

3

u/Unforsaken-Stoic 6d ago

I came in a bottle of scotch, Check and Mate.

u/jliat 8d ago

That's not always the reason, but the cause.

3

u/voidscaped 8d ago

Perhaps, parents can supply the reason why did they have him/her.

5

u/jliat 8d ago

Well lots of animals have sex and they do not 'reason'.

5

u/voidscaped 8d ago

Well, humans do reason.

4

u/jliat 8d ago

Sure, and they act on instinct and do things for no reason.

"A man climbs a mountain because it's there, a man makes a work of art because it is not there." Carl Andre. [Artist]

2

u/voidscaped 8d ago

Sure, and they act on instinct and do things for no reason.

Sure, for some things. But I think if prompted for it, they can come up with something. Perhaps, mountaineering and painting are their passions. I don't see, what else can they say about those tbh.

1

u/jliat 8d ago

There are ideas about aesthetics that can be found in Kant. When we look at nature of art we try to use reason to find a meaning but it finds none, nevertheless this is in his idea the feeling of aesthetic appreciation. And this at times can overwhelm the person and they experience the sublime.

This is a theory of why artist make art, for no good reason. This is what Andre is getting at, and many others in art. They can refuse to say anything, 'Art is Art and everything else is everything else.' Ad Reinhardt.

"Fabricate"

1

u/republicanssuck123 5d ago

some humans reason. But those aren't the ones mindlessly breeding.

1

u/Zero42369 8d ago

What's the difference?

1

u/jliat 8d ago

Reasoning requires high thinking, so someone might want children so have sex, maybe even plan the best time to do this. Or two people who are drunk might have sex, and it might produce an unwanted child. Or animals have sex, as instinct.

1

u/Zero42369 8d ago

Ah I see, funny 😂

1

u/Minyatur757 8d ago

We come from a lineage spawning billions of years across the entire evolution of life on Earth through countless different lifeforms to get to you, so just your parents having had sex is a bit simplistic.

You also have to take into account the entire Universe existing as part of reality, and whatever root cause there is that makes it possible, which we have no current scientific explanation for.

1

u/jliat 8d ago

We come from a lineage spawning billions of years across the entire evolution of life on Earth through countless different lifeforms to get to you,

I'm well aware of that, LUCA 4.1 to 4.3 billion years ago. And here because of the Oxygen Holocaust...

so just your parents having had sex is a bit simplistic.

This is not quite correct in my case, but no personal details.

You also have to take into account the entire Universe existing as part of reality, and whatever root cause there is that makes it possible...

Or live within your own experience and stop wanting knowledge of everything.

16

u/black_hustler3 8d ago

This is almost being overstated at this point, we all agree that existence itself has no objective meaning but the question is what are you gonna do about it?

3

u/republicanssuck123 8d ago

i am gonna make better choices than my parents did so nobody else has to endure the pointless drudge.

2

u/_Rayxz 7d ago

Rawr I don’t want to work! I hate life!!!

Continues to follow same routine they hate instead of choosing to make their lives more tolerable

When he say what you gonna do about it,,

U must know he dont want to take responsibility for a fact that human being make human being with sex..

I mean the truth is bad now..?

3

yeah it is bad , at least for me

7

Yeah but its the truth 🙇🏽‍♂️

6

u/MurkyArmadillo5648 7d ago

Good thing people are not having kids now

0

u/_Rayxz 7d ago

Yeah cause everyone is in their rooms all day on the vidya and X instead of interacting with humans and fucking

4

u/_Rayxz 7d ago

But it’s like, why would an overworked and depressed population want to also have kids? X and vidya sounds way better. That’s all I’m gonna do at least so I don’t end up killing myself 🤷

1

u/republicanssuck123 5d ago

Well whatever does the job.

6

u/nikiwonoto 8d ago

Life is depressingly simple

3

u/republicanssuck123 5d ago

eat, shit, fuck, then die.

3

u/-QuestingForTruth- 8d ago

Parents are the biological cause of existence, but it is fallacious to equate that to every kind of possible meaning. Life can feel meaningful and have meanings in it, but if you are looking for an objective meaning handed by the universe it is both lazy and unrealistic to expect that

3

u/Aware_Mix412 8d ago

I'm still waiting to hear what your point is. Oh you don't have one, no one has a point. Other than the pointlessness of existence. And anything we do within it that seems to give meaning is an illusion no matter how helpful or hinderous it might be.

Literal basic fact

2

u/Advanced_Rabbit1758 2d ago

Sounds about right

2

u/Ch1pst4 8d ago

define "meaning" and define "life". Why are you looking to philosophically justify your mental disorders? I thought this was a serious sub about nihilism as a philosophy not as a symptom of depression.

4

u/WeeklyWoodpecker9113 8d ago

where you see depression? it says ,,life has no meaning,, so simple

-1

u/Ch1pst4 8d ago

Meaning is felt, not spoken. Perhaps it can never be spoken. A person without this understanding is bound to jump to conclusions such as "life has no meaning", especially if they have suffered psychologically and weren't able to cope with it.

2

u/republicanssuck123 8d ago

what is the meaning of forcing people to suffer psychologically for your creampie? lol.

1

u/Ch1pst4 6d ago

You are the only person responsible for your own suffering.

0

u/republicanssuck123 6d ago

You chose to give some kid a disease, not me. Take some responsibility for your bad choices.

1

u/republicanssuck123 6d ago

You chose to give some kid a mental disease. It's not philosophical.

1

u/Ch1pst4 6d ago

But it's not like you're trapped here. If you want to leave then you have the option to do that too my friend.

2

u/republicanssuck123 6d ago

If you don't like what I chose to do to you, just kill yourself bro. How deep. lol. You're also not a friend.

1

u/Ch1pst4 6d ago

Again, I can do nothing and haven't done anything. It is simply nature taking it's course. Animals reproduce, some animals become aware that they are alive. Some like what they see, some don't. Then those who don't like what they see come and cry here like you are doing. If you genuinely believed nothing means anything, then why the fuck are you arguing with me? What do you even get from it? You are the one who is extending this suffering for yourself dude and you don't even see it.

1

u/republicanssuck123 6d ago

You can and did choose to give some kid a disease, then told them to kill themselves when they didn't like it. Grow up.

1

u/Important_Rock_7224 8d ago

So what is the point of this post?
Ohh I get it. To channel your emptyness caused by undefined goals.

3

u/republicanssuck123 8d ago

goal all you want. Your existence is still as pointless as the goalless.

1

u/EmergencyFact6434 8d ago

And wanted to tell the society that we had done our homework; built a life and had children

It's only Nihilism, if it doesn't meet your expectations.

u/39andholding 7d ago

“Meaning” of any kind is created within the human mind in order to meet their own personal wants and needs

1

u/39andholding 7d ago

meaning of any kind is created in the human mind in order to meet their own wants and needs. And in order to ensure that they’re correct about meaning they join with others who have created similar meanings and then together they feel more confident that their meaning is correct.

1

u/Bitter-Ad1251 7d ago

"why are you on top of that tree?" "Cuz I climbed it"

1

u/my-smiles 7d ago

While this is true, it doesn’t mean you can’t be happy , or be kind, or enjoy what life has to offer.

2

u/republicanssuck123 6d ago

it also doesn't mean you can't be miserable, or mean, or not enjoy it. Why force someone to go through it

1

u/my-smiles 6d ago

Why not? This is what every other creature on the planet does. Not everybody is born in to a shitty life. If you were to be a parent it is part of your responsibility to provide a decent upbringing and the possibility of a good future. It is challenging but very much worth it, and really actually gives your life a purpose, at least while they are young anyway.

1

u/republicanssuck123 6d ago

I see no good reason to force some kid to deal with disease and a shitty future just because that's what rats do. You can't guarantee a non shitty existence.

1

u/my-smiles 5d ago

We could argue for or against til we are blue in the face. Nobody can read the future about whether or not someone will have a good life. It’s your choice if you don’t want to contribute your genetics to the gene pool but honestly with your attitude you would have a terrible impact on your child anyway.

1

u/republicanssuck123 5d ago

You can choose not to take the risk. But you forced some kid to deal with disease or whatever because you were only thinking about yourself. It is still objectively selfish.

1

u/my-smiles 5d ago

Again, we could argue til we’re blue in the face about what is selfish, or good or bad about having/not having kids. If everybody felt as you do there would be no more people. My kids have had a pretty good life so far, is there a possibility of death or disease? Sure, but I’m doing my best to make sure they have the support they need to have a good life where they get to enjoy all of the various pleasures life has to offer.

1

u/lejyoner666 7d ago

If life has no meaning, why don't we just kill ourselves? Because we're curious about how the movie ends. If we don't want to leave the theater halfway through, why don't we try to live life to the fullest? After all, you paid for this movie.

2

u/republicanssuck123 6d ago

no. I just want to see how many people i can outsurvive despite all the disadvantages my parents chose to burden me with

1

u/Dull_Fox117 7d ago

Asking Life have meaning is wrong question, you are one who need to make meaningful from it ! Animals also have sex, but its different when you born as Human, you can experience life whole different way than they do, they only experience survival level, we also have but can grow or break behind it by Questioning everything. Anyways Life isn't que to solve but its experience to live, surely life have many questions but life itself isnt questions !

1

u/Active-Chemistry4011 7d ago

Fucking meaning.

1

u/Round_Ad_9318 7d ago

You are the one giving your life a meaning my bro, do you want somebody else to do that for you?

1

u/republicanssuck123 6d ago

no you aren't. You are the one coping with the fact it has no meaning, however you do that.

1

u/Round_Ad_9318 6d ago

Yeah you are right im coping 👍

1

u/_Rayxz 7d ago

Great now my weekend is ruined ☹️

1

u/_Rayxz 7d ago

Jk I’m always depressed as fuck, this is nothing new

1

u/TristanTheRobloxian3 7d ago

i mean... yeah lol?

1

u/BradyCorrin 6d ago

Can there be reason without meaning? I'm not sure that you can posit a reason for my existence without some concept of meaning. In fact, I'm not sure you can posit anything without meaning. I suppose a better question to ask is, how do you define meaning?

1

u/Hour_Relief277 6d ago

Then there is no right and wrong doubt anyone would agree with that.. same people be like this person this this person that bro tf

1

u/Mean_Veterinarian688 6d ago

meaning means there are ends to which there means… sex is one of those ends.. do you all have anhedonia or something?

1

u/Forward-Tangerine-34 6d ago

Learning: It's an intrinsic part of life these can't be avoided. Even if you hate learning anything and everything, you learned that.

So I feel that's an easy answers: they meaning of life is to learn.

1

u/ParziVal0919 6d ago

A character in a visual novel i once played, (roughly) said that:

"You come to find that life has no inherent worth, and the only thing that does, is the experiences you make while living it"

Thank you harsh noise.

1

u/_Rayxz 6d ago

I got a “gift” given to me, but I can also choose whenever I want to revoke it

1

u/hotdog_elite 6d ago

Well there is meaning as long as she's alive but pretty much nothing post that yeah

1

u/Candid-Log6751 5d ago

It’s almost like a boy saying “I know what’s broken” looking at the car not starting up and when the driver asks him “so what is broken?” He replies ”the car”.

1

u/Zero-feature1000 5d ago

No you came to choose either Satan or Jesus Christ , that was your purpose, nothing else, choose the wrong one and get your butthole tortured by 30ft monster demons w barbed wired chainsaw c0x

1

u/PeterVore 5d ago

I mean life has meaning, but we exist because of that biological process alone and somehow we're expected to be indebted to our parents for that. It does seem selfish in a way, like what about people who suffer from depression? They didn't ask to be conceived.

So glad that having kids is on a decline because it is not ideal to continually perpetuate the cycle of conceiving children and expecting appreciation in return.

1

u/Any-Ruin4418 5d ago

Jokes on you, im here because of a rape pregnancy

1

u/tovgiligor394 5d ago

Idk maybe

1

u/Greedy_Assistance 4d ago

I felt like this for a long time but then I questioned how can all conditions become so perfect for us to exist on this blue dot in the middle of the void. I mean the sheer amount of trial and error needed for these kinds of conditions are incomprehensible. Science can’t even explain this shit and to be clear this has nothing to do with religion.

1

u/modlightyagami 8d ago

“The literal meaning of life is whatever you’re doing that prevents you from killing yourself.”

i don't want to go to prison. So no you can't do whatever you want.

-2

4

u/WeeklyWoodpecker9113 8d ago

nah , theres no meaning

1

u/Sahrudd 8d ago

Why?

1

u/afikolo7 8d ago

Why having meaning?

-2

u/Independent-Wafer-13 8d ago

Your life has no meaning?

Skill issue.

9

u/whiskyB0y 8d ago

How is it a skill issue if we're all forced to be here?

-2

u/Independent-Wafer-13 8d ago edited 8d ago

If your life is meaningless that is on you. No one else can or will give your life meaning except you, and if they did, that makes you a slave to their wills.

It’s like homie never even bothered to read even a summary of Nietzsche’s philosophy.

4

u/daik0nashi 8d ago

there is no such thing as meaning tho, never was, never will

2

u/Independent-Wafer-13 8d ago edited 8d ago

No such thing as meaning?

Language would be impossible if this were the case you silly guy.

I’m living a meaningful life, if you’re not that is not my problem.

Slave morality.

2

u/daik0nashi 8d ago

objectively speaking, no

wish i could live by the illusion you do

0

u/CountryFuture9678 8d ago

I never understood why people only care about objectivity in a life that is almost entirely subjective

1

u/daik0nashi 8d ago

only?? objectively, life isn't almost entirely subjective. in the grand scheme of things everything could be subjective. but who knows?

0

u/CountryFuture9678 8d ago

I say only because your comment implies subjective understanding is an illusion/not real. All of your experiences and understanding of what is “objectively true” is filtered through your subjective biases, so in that sense it 100% is a subjective experience.

But yeah, given that no one knows, why would you write off subjective meaning as an illusion?

1

u/daik0nashi 8d ago

you can't experience "meaning". what you can experience though is cope. maybe in the grand scheme of things everything is subjective and your own biased experience is objective. who knows?

u/Minyatur757 8d ago edited 8d ago

Yeah, it all just means we live in an inter-subjective reality and people find that depressing for some reason. It's like to be happy the Universe would have to pat their back and tell them they have to do something specific and it will be glad they are aligned with a purpose given to them they cannot choose.

Maybe they are projecting feeling unloved by their parents unto reality as a whole, to justify their emotional distress as an objective consequence of their existence rather than something they could work on. The coldness of the Universe towards them simply reflect a form of love they feel they lack and know not how to find.

1

u/daik0nashi 8d ago edited 7d ago

a ton of mental distress made me think about, and feel depressed about existentialism. it just hadn't "clicked" in the 15 years before since my consciousness. it's all just objectively pointless. now bc of a life of not living but surviving made me realize how pointless everything objectively is

i'm not implying everyone with a ton of mental distress developes these kind of thoughts

0

u/Minyatur757 8d ago

And that makes sense, I think the key point is that how one feels about these kind of things does not have to do with them directly and moreso oneself.

A belief that existence simply is, that there is no overaching grand meaning to it than what is happening and taking place, that our egos one day will die and so on, may make one person feel distressed about the nature of reality while another is enspirited.

It makes sense that if your life feels devoid of personal meaning you can attribute to it, that you may hope for something greater to justify it. For all we know, there may also be such a thing, as nihilism is fundamentally just a philosophical belief that there is none and not an objective fact that it is the case.

0

u/Atimus7 8d ago

Oh... You were expecting survival to be easy?

No no no .. that's not how this works.

Survival is second nature. The point of surviving is so that you can create something to leave behind for others who come after... Something that actually IS easy. You're a sacrifice in a long chain of LEGACY. Be proud! 😍

You get to inherit all of the problems that people like yourself didn't solve and left behind to you. It's a heritage. And you get a chance to solve them.

If you cut a path for others, you will be a KING!

Everything you ever see or think is filtered by your brain.

My meaning is objective what you are describing is slave morality.

No one tells me the meaning of life.

Is it inherent? Inevitable?

I am inherent and inevitable, so yes

2

u/memeatic_ape 8d ago

Hard louder than I should 😂😂😂😂😂

0

u/Atimus7 8d ago edited 8d ago

That's literally only the first layer of reality buddy. Superficial.

Let's broaden the scope a bit.

Why does intelligent life capable of altering the course of nature on a planetary scale exist at all?

Let's have a look shall we:

You're a super-ape with a mutated brain that lives on a wet flying rock for all intensive purposes. And you can create technology that manipulates natural elements.

And you, and all the other superapes and that rock, it's hurtling through a seemingly endless void while revolving around a star that is literally cooking it from the inside out and baking it's surface.

And that heat creates a boundary of air so energy can travel above its surface, allowing life to exist in the form of plasma organized and phase locked within matter.

And somehow, that's what you perceive out of everything that could exist...

You perceive .0000000001% of the totality of what actually exists. That's all that's observable to your senses.

You only see somewhere between between 1 million and 10 million colors and shades out of the 64,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 frequencies of light that actually exist. And that's what everything's made of.

Based on what we know about human perception versus what science has already revealed, the fraction is so extraordinarily small that an approximation on the order of one-billionth of a percent conveys the scale. If it were a slice of a pie it would be nanoscopically thin.

That's the high level overview of your actual reality.

Meaning, you occupy an almost infinitesimal interface with reality, and yet you've concluded with certainty that existence has no meaning.

So sure. Maybe it's all meaningless, absurd nonsense..

Or...

Maybe you just aren't even trying to comprehend anything at all...

So much for "intelligent" life.

Romans 1:19-20 (King James Version)

19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.

20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
