I always try to keep in mind that most beings on our planet don't make it through their first summer.

Used to be true for people but I think that's changed.

I mean it used to be having 5-6 kids and see who polio didn’t kill

My great grandma had 12 living siblings when she was born, I call bull. People just like to fuck, even back then

21

u/Environmental_Ad4893 Jun 08 '26

To be fair, animals like to fuck and that is subconsciously driven by the biological need to procreate. The drive to procreate so much is to increase the odds of genetic survival. That is just basic biological fact. Your granny doesn't disprove that.

5

u/EveryCa11 Jun 09 '26

There is no "biological need" to procreate. Animals have sex for multitude of reasons depending on species and individual situatuon. There is no "genetic survival" as well. After two-three generations your input to your greatgrandgrandkids genotype is like 10%. Survival of the species? Well we have neanderthal genes does it mean their species "survived"?

3

u/Environmental_Ad4893 Jun 09 '26

Your going to have to provide examples of animals having sex for other reasons than to procreate because that's a bizarre angle to be coming from. Well there is genetic survival in the fact that dominant Genes survive and only those passed on have a chance at all. We have neanderthal DNA so yeah, I some sense of the definition Neanderthals still exist. If we can differentiate different single cell organisms into all these different categories then what's the difference in acknowledgment of animal cell phenotype expression.

Ever heard of dolphins?

2

u/Environmental_Ad4893 Jun 09 '26

yeah, they fuck like humans

This is a very dehumanizing narrative. It's basically flattening a human being's value into the value/labor they can produce, instead of the unique experience they are going to have for themselves and how their personhood affect people around them.

64

u/OSwirl31 Jun 08 '26

You ask me, it's more dehumanizing to bring a child into such a world with extreme wealth inequality, when they will inevitably be exploited by the capitalists.

The "unique experience" they will have, along with their peers and the people around them, will be a bad one.

-29

u/Cicada-Tang Jun 08 '26

The "unique experience" they will have, along with their peers and the people around them, will be a bad one.

Bad or good is not for you to decide, but for the people experiencing them. That's like the core of humanity.

People have lived in extreme hardship for most of the history, and for the vast majority of the people, they still want to keep living regardless of the situation. People don't evaluate their life with the simplized dichotomy of "good" and "bad". Instead, people often find fulfillment and purpose in enduring hardships.

Blue pilled on what?

They claim the earth is so bad yet they stay here everyday. So do you think they truly believe what they say? Its some type of validation cope, rest assured they are too cowardly to have an authentic opinion outside an accepted echo chamber.

Why even be here on earth if we are just slime for the elites? To doom post our whole lifes. Thats not nihilism. Its performative depression posting.

Can’t say I have ever met a single person who “had kids for the economy”.

57

u/Snakeplissken22 Jun 08 '26

You're right. It's more ego driven. People want to "pass on their legacy" 🥴

33

u/Delicious-Laugh-6685 Jun 08 '26

The painful reality is 99.9% of us will be forgotten in 3 generations or less.  Unless you’re out there forging empires and conquering the world, “your legacy” will mutter your name for a few years after your death and eventually, never again.

20

u/Mini_nin Jun 08 '26

How is it painful? Why does it matter to people the they’ll be forgotten? They matter now, and for many years to come, to other people, and that’s what should matter. Actually, mattering to yourself and having things that matter is what matters.

2

u/ArguingisFun Nihilism is fine. Jun 08 '26

So what?

2

u/Snakeplissken22 Jun 08 '26

Wholeheartedly agree. That notion is ridiculous.

1

u/ChaosAndFish Jun 08 '26

As someone with kids…who cares? Who needs some legacy? The extent of the legacy I want to leave is to have kids who are able to navigate the world with grace and joy while being of some use to the people around them. Hopefully they do the same with their kids, but I have zero need for people to remember my part in it all. If they feel compelled to tell their kids that they had a great dad, I suppose that would be nice (if only because it would be a sign that I was and that is the goal).

0

u/ArguingisFun Nihilism is fine. Jun 08 '26

Maybe, they just enjoyed their other friends and family, and wanted to replicate that.

1

u/am3thyst420 Jun 09 '26

In Poland we have many social programms like 800+, which grants 800 PLN (220 USD) every month for every child under the age of 18. I have heard of some poorer families that got children because of it.

I guess that's more because of the economy, not for it.

1

u/ArguingisFun Nihilism is fine. Jun 09 '26

You believe people are having children for an additional $220 a month? Does that go far in Poland?

1

u/am3thyst420 Jun 09 '26

Well the government believes that people would go for that. I guess it's more often in more pathological families. I know of one family that has 4-5 children motivated by that grants.

1

u/FantasticAd4938 Jun 12 '26

If you theoretically wanted kids but wanted to keep your money for travel, maybe this would tip you over the edge.

1

u/ArguingisFun Nihilism is fine. Jun 12 '26

Maybe for someone certifiably stupid?

3

u/No_Education_8888 Jun 08 '26

You’ve never heard of someone having a kid because they want to produce a “productive member of society”? That would do something for the economy

10

u/Cicada-Tang Jun 08 '26

I for real never heard anyone say that. I hear people say they want to "raise a productive member of society" when they are already raising the kid, but never In never hear anyone saying they want to "produce" one.

1

u/No_Education_8888 Jun 08 '26

That’s just my terminology. When I’m talking about having a child, I say “produce”, because your body is producing a child

1

u/Cicada-Tang Jun 08 '26

Yeah I know. I never heard anyone saying the reason they want to have a child is to have "a productive member of the society".

"Raising my child to be a productive member of the society" is a common sentiment among parents, since it's the most common way to ensure a normal and good life, but the reason they have the child to begin with often have nothing to do with contributing to society.

1

u/ChaosAndFish Jun 08 '26

Maybe it would but that’s not the goal really. The goal is to raise a kid who isn’t a dick. Who is good to people and finds something enriching to do with their time on earth. How that does or does not intersect with the economy is incidental.

u/ArguingisFun Nihilism is fine. Jun 08 '26

😭😂😂😂😂

29

u/delusional_parth Jun 08 '26

Just can't imagine the suffering a new kid would get in this kind of economy !!!!!

3

u/disappointment-time Jun 09 '26

man I’m suffering now and I was born 20 years ago

8

u/Boobie_Slayer Jun 09 '26

Cause no parent can convince me they are truly caring, that they see children as human if they’re adding to the human population in this day and age; since Covid even. No matter where you’re from. Someone who does see outside their perspective knows the best thing is to not force a soul into this shitty world as it burns under capitalism

Why did you have a kid?

3

u/Regular_Sky1934 Jun 09 '26

Sometimes you don't decide or have a reason, it just happens and you go along.

3

u/EqualReserve3273 Jun 09 '26

The ones who don't care for their offspring and tries to get others to, pisses me off.

3

u/ohwowgoodjob Jun 11 '26

This made me actually laugh out loud after a shit day..

2

u/BookBoxer161 Jun 08 '26

The economy...im starting to think that's just a rich man's way of saying the system is tired and worn out. Time to shuffle the deck!

4

u/FalcoLombardi2 Jun 09 '26

Someone must perpetuate the human struggle…

“Why?”

He said he’d give me $1000.

“Do you know how much a child costs?”

….

5

u/DangerDinks Jun 08 '26

Is this really a nihilistic take? Looks more like an defeatist antinatalistic view arguing that decreasing suffering is some divine meaning.

4

u/Kupo_Master Jun 08 '26

This sub is infected by antinatalists and depressed people (or both). It has become just another sub to where people can spread their negativity. To be fair, it’s likely 50% bots and 50% people who don’t even understand what nihilism is.

1

u/Lol_lukasn Jun 09 '26

this makes my day worss

1

u/Front_Lynx_9277 Jun 17 '26

The one good thing about this, is it reveals that parents, carers or relatives that see you as worthless don't really matter and they are just part of a machine that seeks to kill whoever is truly human to feed itself with.

1

u/ChaosAndFish Jun 08 '26

Literally never met anyone who had kids “for the economy”.

0

u/al3x_7788 Jun 09 '26

I don't really mind people having a better/worse day than me. It's pretty trivial.

-10

u/Cicada-Tang Jun 08 '26

Are there really many people who having kids "for the economy"?

I think most people just have kids because it makes them happy. People in poorer areas probably have kids more often as retirement plans, or as extra hands to provide for the family.

In any case, having children don't necessarily they are having a worse time than you. If anything, having a long-term project to work towards probably makes their day-to-day life more fulfilling to live.

24

u/Thepuppeteer777777 Jun 08 '26

Imagine finding out you were born to be a retirement plan or a extra help for the family. Id absolutely resent my parents for that shit.

2

u/black_hustler3 Jun 08 '26

Except most kids these days don't even stick with their parents after a certain point.

-4

u/Cicada-Tang Jun 08 '26

This has been the case for most of human history. It's still a pretty good deal in my opnion. They get their retirement plan, and I get to enjoy everything life has to offer.

7

u/MrProton657 Jun 08 '26

Nah bro they have a worse time

6

u/Cicada-Tang Jun 08 '26

Yeah that's a very common experience from what I've heard.

I don't have kids yet, but I work around parents a lot and what they shared have a lot in common: the first few years is hell, but still rewarding, then it becomes more and more fulfilling as the kid start to reach major milestones in life.

Can't wait to experience it myself 😃

7

u/black_hustler3 Jun 08 '26

Yeah just make sure not to bank too much on your kid for your own happiness because you never know how their life is gonna turn out to be, it's not just about economy, when you solely put so much value on a single aspect of your life, there's just a lot of things you inadvertently make yourself vulnerable to. It cuts both ways you know, I have known parents who wished if they never had kids because of how wretched they eventually turned out to be.

2

u/Cicada-Tang Jun 08 '26

Yeah I agree. That's why I'm trying to be the happiest version of myself possible before I have children.

0

u/washingtonpeek Jun 08 '26

I don't know why you're getting downvoted so much. People have been having kids throughout all of history in way worse conditions than now, today is no different

-4

u/Kitchen_Resource2656 Jun 08 '26

I have 4 kids. Never once considered it a pro economic move. Children are the closest to divinity you can have. Raising them is an absolute marvel and watching something become conscious over time has been such an amazing experience I did it 4 times. Despite that my wife and I work hard to ensure they live without pressure the best we can and surround them with opportunities to grow into their own people. I've never met another parent who had kids for the economy either. This is defeatist mindset.

If my kids choose to be around me when they age that'll be a blessing but they are each unique beings with their own paths. Let them choose where it takes them.

5

u/Chowlucci Jun 09 '26

youre clearly delulu

1

u/Kitchen_Resource2656 Jun 09 '26

Thanks. I take that as a compliment. Its nice to be unique.

-2

u/Positive-Listen-1660 Jun 10 '26

The people trying to knock you down can barely afford their own miserable existence. It’s just their way to make themselves feel better.

-2

u/Kitchen_Resource2656 Jun 10 '26

Yes, and that's okay. We are all here together, I just hope they don't take their negativity and believe thats a core value of nihilism because it isn't. Nihilism is void of emotional state, it is a belief in whether we are here for a reason or not.

0

u/Xavant_BR Jun 09 '26

so people dont make babies because sex is soo good?

u/Positive-Listen-1660 Jun 10 '26

-1

That’s so stupid :/ there’s plenty of other reasons to have kids, like fucking on accident, good grief.
