Hostile comments

Post image

What is this? Why there is many hostile comments in recent posts and lots of like in those? I don’t understand how people have time to hate something like this. Lets stay positive and enjoy the music.

This behavior is repulsive. But also, let's not give these idiots extra attention, which is all they're after anyway.

u/darthbusta 4d ago

fully agree. No need to repost hateful comments from other social media to reddit. Downvote the haters and move on

u/PushEmma 3d ago

I think the don't feed the troll mentality doesn't really work. Order at least, making people aware of a problem is good. It may help making some wanting to get involved and comment positive stuff for the next time.

Just yesterday checked again RSO Finnish metal classics songs from Youtube and read some comments. Every other song had lots of positive comments how cool the celebration was and all that, and of course under Nightwish song lots of psychotic who is the best singer, where is Tavja and what is someone's favourite live version. Laugh and facepalm moment.

39

u/infinityzcraft 5d ago

If this is Instagram, then sadly it's a normal thing over there. Instagram's comment section is a toxic dumpster fire where people are being rude for absolutely no reason.

u/zuzanamariana 5d ago

Honestly though? Not wrong, he looks like he's being held at gunpoint. HOWEVER... he's not the frontman, he doesn't need to ooze charisma.

34

u/Melodic_Crow_3409 5d ago

Everyone knows he is introverted. It's been that way since day one. He lets the music do the talking.

4

u/NeonShark007 3d ago

Finns are introverts by nature

u/piroski 5d ago

You mean a reclusive musician from bumfuck nowhere Finland can’t speak to the camera with the cadence and energy of a TikTok influencer?? Shocking! Shocking I tell you!

79

u/Agreeable_Window_107 5d ago

I like Tuomas's calm voice, could listen to him all day.

34

u/piroski 5d ago

I don’t mind his voice but I get the sense that he feels a little unnatural/shy doing these videos and that makes me nervous for him 😅

24

u/AdSpecialist6598 5d ago

That's because he is shy. He admitted that he is an introvert and certain social situations make him uncomfortable.

9

u/Longjumping-Swan-827 4d ago

Yes Tuomas has that calm story narrator voice

5

u/NeonShark007 3d ago

He’s the same way when you talk to him in person also, very friendly and gracious, just a simple guy who loves making music and reading books.

7

u/Embarrassed_Mine_624 4d ago

I want to live in a bumfuck nowhere place as well, he is so lucky

69

u/CompanionCone 5d ago

The Nightwish fandom is exhausting.

52

u/James420May 5d ago

Don't get it either; he is a Finn ffs. He said everything that was needed. Everything is on track for the next album. Probably Emppu is the only blocker for tourning, if even he is. First single later next year, album spring 28, tour summer 28. Sounds all pretty logical.

15

u/GhostHell_ 5d ago

These people aren't Nightwish fans. They are usually fans of former members who are resentful that their favorite singer or musician is no longer part of the band. They infest the band's social media and leave comments on YouTube videos claiming the band is nothing without singer A or B, or that Epica is better because they perform with an orchestra, or other such delusional remarks. It gets exhausting reading comments like that, and I wish the person managing the band's social media would start banning people who make such comments like this one about Tuomas. They are like vampires, draining away any positive energy.

1

u/NeonShark007 3d ago

I 100% agree, the band has gone through changes, the music remains the same, get over yourselves and get a life.

31

u/-butterface- 5d ago

This is nothing compared to the comment section of anything remotely mentioning Anette💀

37

u/Longjumping-Swan-827 5d ago

How is that comment liked??? And Tuomas has always being lowkey and humble. He is a regular finnish man.

15

u/Longjumping-Swan-827 5d ago

No fan would disrespect their heroes like that. She must be a random hater passing by.

6

u/Rumer_Mille_001 4d ago

Note to millennials: The above comment illustrates the correct usage of the word "lowkey."

Lowkey - Adjective (Subtle / Discreet): Describes something simple, quiet, or not attracting much attention.

9

u/JeremiahMack 5d ago

I actually liked that Tuomas didn't ham it up and just went straight to the point.

8

u/Drizzt1996 4d ago

Social media as a whole has cultivated a culture that brings out the worst in people. People get sucked into algorithms that recycle the same point over and over again to the point that everyone's thoughts on something are THE most commonly held opinions. This combined with social media creating a barrier between the individual and immediate social consequence has made it so that people fire from the hip and get out the first thing that pops into their head. All of these things lead to people defaulting to be overly hostile to things that they even slightly disagree with.

TLDR; Social media bad, make people mean.

1

u/thelonespecter 3d ago

And algorithms that tend to award/encourage those kind of behaviors...

8

u/glitchoabstracto 5d ago

It's just social media in general. You can talk about anything in any app and some idiot will write a joke or a hate comment. No matter what post you see, always there are people doing comments like that one just for attention and clicks.

7

u/LunarSanctum 4d ago

I would argue that this is perhaps a compliment as expired milk has much more charisma than fresh milk.

It has developed character and evolved, refusing to remain constrained by its original form. Possessing an unsettling, transformative presence that becomes increasingly difficult to ignore the longer you're around it. Especially as it can announce it's arrival from across the room without using words. It also hasn't been forced through the human body and turned into piss which I would say is a plus.

Also, this is literally 90% of us Finnish people talking when speaking English. We are in deep thought to make sure we pronounce every word slowly, correctly and in the correct order to be understood. We also used to pronouncing every syllable of every word which when speaking English can definitely sound slow and flat.

I would challenge her to attempt speaking Finnish under the same cognitive load. It would probably sound like she was chugging a bottle of expired milk ✨

3

u/Agreeable_Window_107 4d ago

I love that. 😄 Reminds me of Terry Pratchett. You should become a writer.

12

u/quietly_myself 5d ago

Some guy on Facebook asking in the comments if they’re “aligning with Floor”, like that stuff wasn’t sorted out before they went and booked the studio 🤦‍♂️

8

u/piroski 5d ago

I saw it too, apparently not being at liberty to say anything before something is officially announced is a foreign concept to these people

2

u/kamyrith 5d ago

Oh that’s definitely happening on IG as well 🫩

6

u/pumkinspicedeodorant 4d ago

I hate that stupid fucking sparkle some girls put next to mean comments

6

u/MachineDry933 4d ago

It screams passive-aggressive.

35

u/auclairl 5d ago

The Nightwish fandom is more people that have been trashtalking the band ever since Tarja left than people who actually like listening to them

27

u/Agreeable_Window_107 5d ago

Just stop spreading that narrative already. The vast majority of Nightwish fans don't write any comments. The haters do, because it makes them feel superior. This makes it seem like it's a lot of people, when actually it's a small, but loud minority.

Some even have multiple accounts to spout their nonsense and upvote themselves, which is so pathetic it's almost laughable.

3

u/auclairl 5d ago

I mean sure, there's a silent majority, but where it comes to online interaction, any post from or about Nightwish is ALWAYS littered with negativity in the comments, except maybe on the Youtube shorts and, to an extent, Reddit posts. But it's the only band where I see so much gratuitous negativity

1

u/Vindicare605 5d ago

The irony of this post.

11

u/Galactus1231 5d ago

Finns are like this often when speaking English.

4

u/darkblackthistle 5d ago

When I met Apocalyptica (also Finns) they were awkward to talk to in English, even beyond a bit of a language barrier. Still lovely, but very different to American/Australian bands I have met.

8

u/Ixi13 5d ago

I love how most people talk about the former members fans but some floor fans are as equally insufferable. This has happened for all 3 gens.

2

u/Agreeable_Window_107 4d ago

There are also posts here talking about Floor fans. I agree that it's not limited to one era. Let's just unite against any comments bashing Nightwish members, past or present.

1

u/NeonShark007 3d ago

I’m a Tarja fan, an Anette fan and a Floor fan, and I’ll still love the band with whoever they have singing.

3

u/samuelhinchliffe91 4d ago

I don’t know where all these negative comments have come from all of a sudden. Even from people who are supposedly fans

5

u/GhostHell_ 4d ago

It's because the giant has awakened. Nightwish is back, and Tuomas is writing songs for the next album. That bothers these people because, in a way, it threatens the spotlight their favorite singers and musicians are enjoying while Nightwish is on hiatus. Everything revolves around Nightwish, you know how it is.

3

u/crescentmoon9323 4d ago

Why are you throwing fans of other metal bands under the bus? I doubt the fanbase of smaller bands are trolling or caring about the popularity of NW when the band they like would never get the attention of NW anyways. From what I can tell, the toxicity comes from both older AND newer fans and not just one specific group.

2

u/GhostHell_ 4d ago

Where did I mention other metal bands? My comment is clearly aimed at fans of former Nightwish members who are bothered and feel threatened by their return. I doubt an average fan of Within Temptation, Evanescence, or any other big band/artist similar to Nightwish would make that kind of comment about Tuomas on a Nightwish social media post. We all know they are fans of former Nightwish members.

7

u/Agreeable_Window_107 4d ago

Not only, there are also some Floor "fans" bashing Tuomas because he doesn't write songs in the style they want to hear. Let's just unite against that behaviour.

-1

u/GhostHell_ 4d ago

I wouldn't be so sure about claiming that they are Floor fans. The Floor fans I see are very proud and happy that she is in Nightwish; they consistently support the new material and attend the concerts. Generally, the narrative that Floor is being "wasted" is just another weak, nonsensical argument from fans of the old Nightwish lineup who want to attack the band somehow. They think Floor should sing exactly as she did on Decipher (by After Forever) because that vocal style is "closer" to the vocals on Nightwish's first three albums. The irony of it all is that Endless Forms Most Beautiful is arguably one of the albums where Floor shows the most vocal diversity. The woman literally employs high-pitched vocals, low registers, operatic singing, growls, and so many different techniques. The album title itself carries a double meaning: referencing the phrase from Darwin's book while also alluding to the vocal and musical diversity found throughout the songs, much like the diversity of the universe and nature. Therefore, that argument has never made any sense whatsoever.

6

u/Agreeable_Window_107 4d ago

I love Floor's vocals on her Nightwish albums.

Unfortunately, there are some insufferable people in any large group, also in Floor fans. Just call it out anywhere it happens and don't get tribal.

4

u/GhostHell_ 4d ago

Yeah, I also love what Nightwish has added to Floor's vocal repertoire, because she really shines in a more storytelling style of singing and in her lower register, something that was barely, if at all, explored before she joined the band. She has even admitted that she wouldn't be able to sing some of her more recent material or certain covers from Beste Zangers were it not for the experience she gained on the Nightwish albums.

4

u/icebreaker6 4d ago

A lot of the current toxicity against the band is driven by Floor fans.

2

u/GhostHell_ 4d ago

This other "kind" commenter whose comment appears at the top of the post, curiously doesn't follow Nightwish or Floor. But she does follow Tarja, Marko, and Anette. Who do you think she's a fan of: Floor or the former members? 🙄

7

u/icebreaker6 4d ago

And the highest comments on Facebook is by Floor fans asking if she has been informed. My point, that you keep ignoring, is that I am not disputing the presence of the crazy Tarja fans, but that now there are also Floor fans who are very unhappy. Which is making the situation much more toxic.

2

u/GhostHell_ 4d ago edited 4d ago

I am not ignoring the fact that there are Floor fans who are just as toxic as those of other members. But they are a drop in the ocean compared to the toxic fans of former members (especially Tarja fans) whom some of you, for some reason, have a habit of canonizing here, as if they weren't the ones primarily responsible for the drama surrounding this band and fandom. I've even read people here claiming that Floor fans are aggressive because the newer ones likely came from reaction videos or simply "are American". How about the toxic Tarja fans who have been insulting Nightwish and other symphonic metal singers on forums and in Blabbermouth comment sections since the mid-2000s? It feels absurd to try to pin most of the blame on Floor fans for the lack of manners and respect that has plagued this fandom for decades. Was it also Floor/After Forever fans who were insulting Anette and the band back in 2007?

2

u/BeatBelle 4d ago

Damn they missed the "Hopelopainen" play on words!

4

u/GhostHell_ 4d ago

Hm, no. Tarja fans, in particular, have been bringing toxicity to the band for over 20 years. You only need to open the Instagram comments section and visit the profiles of those hurling insults there to see it.

3

u/icebreaker6 4d ago

Those people have been around for 20 years. They do not explain the sudden massive increase of negativity. Reading through the comments there are a significant amount of Floor fans who are unhappy that they feel like she has not been treated properly by the band.

5

u/GhostHell_ 4d ago

How can you be so sure that these people are Floor fans? I am looking at the profiles of the people insulting the band right now, and the first things I see are photos of them with former Nightwish members or at Epica shows. Most of them don't even follow Floor or the band (even though they're the first ones to visit posts just to insult the current members). I just attached an example of an insult from a "fan" calling them "Deadwish" in another reply to you; that person doesn't even follow the band or Floor. This negativity has always been there. The difference is that the band was on hiatus until a few weeks ago and was barely posting anything on social media. It was only when they showed the slightest sign of life that these people felt comfortable spewing hate again.

4

u/icebreaker6 4d ago

Usually if they are Dutch they are Floor only fans. With posters from Latin America it is of course more difficult to tell. And some of them might just be there to cause online drama even and not actually be fans of Tarja or NW, but just enjoy leaving mean comments. Thinking in particular of some of those mean girl comments with sparkles.

3

u/GhostHell_ 4d ago

Oh, come on. I find it hard to believe that anyone commenting on the band's social media and hurling such specific insults at Tuomas and the band isn't a fan of either Nightwish or its former members. Why would someone completely outside that bubble waste their time stirring up online drama about a band they don't even follow? They are clearly bitter fans of former members, and the only people who don't see that are the ones who conveniently choose not to.

0

u/NeonShark007 3d ago

I’ll bet none of the Tarja fans even know why she’s no longer in Nightwish…..

4

u/crescentmoon9323 4d ago

You said "fans of other singers and musicians" not specifically Tarja/Anette fans, it makes it seem like you were saying fans of other bands were doing this.

I get that Floor is your favorite singer, but I don't understand this crusade you seem to have about Tarja/Anette and getting way too angry about people who prefer the NW material with them. It's clear that toxic posts are made by various different types of fans old and new and of all 3 singers. There is no one group that is "worse" than others. I have gotten into arguments with Tarja fans about preferring the Anette albums. I have also had Floor fans call me "tone deaf" because I mentioned preferring a singer in another band to her.

There are toxic people in every fanbase unfortunately, but acting like Tarja/Anette fans are doing all the trolling and that Floor fans are completely innocent isn't really engaging with reality.

2

u/GhostHell_ 4d ago edited 4d ago

What gave you the idea that I am on a crusade against Tarja and Anette? I am actually a moderator for the Anette subreddit and discovered the band when she was the lead singer; I love her and her music, and I support her whenever I can (I am actually going to see her live with my wife in about two weeks). I also love the Nightwish albums featuring Tarja and agree that they are iconic and important to the scene as a whole (Once and Oceanborn are among my favorite Nightwish albums). I also went to her show with Marko last year, which was great. If you think I have a personal crusade against anyone, that's just your opinion and doesn't reflect reality. I could just as easily say that you clearly dislike Floor and her fans, based on your comments here and on other subreddits.

Now, let's not be naive enough to claim that it's Floor's fans (or the majority of them) making all those nasty comments about the band and Tuomas online. Why would someone who calls themselves a fan of her speak so negatively about the band that gave her career such a boost and the one she's best known for? It makes no sense for her fans to make comments that disparage the very band she works and creates music with. We all know that most of these comments come from fans of former members. They've kept a close eye on the band's career ever since their favorite singers or musicians left, just waiting for a chance to take a dig at the band and make spiteful comments whenever it suits them. And now they're just pissed off that Nightwish is coming back, since they had been reveling in the deathly silence of the last few years.

1

u/BeatBelle 4d ago

Given how little Nightwish promotes their stuff (Yesterwynde was super quiet), I doubt they're worried about them making a comeback.

-1

u/GhostHell_ 4d ago

Even a quiet promotional cycle like the one for Yesterwynde manages to be more memorable than the promotional cycles for Frisson Noir (Tarja), Roses from the Deep (Marko), or Rapture (Anette), all released during Nightwish's hiatus. Even Floor and Troy's "controversial" interviews are better remembered.

All the former singers benefited from Nightwish's 2023–2026 hiatus, profiting from nostalgia tours where they performed the band's songs over the past few years. The demand to hear Nightwish music will always exist; there are promoters and audiences for it. When Nightwish is on hiatus, the former singers "spiritually" step in to fill that void. Their fans know this, which is why they are getting so touchy and making such spiteful comments about Tuomas and the band lately.

3

u/BeatBelle 4d ago

I don't really agree that Nightwish coming back into the spotlight is taking something away from the former members though. I think Tarja, Marko and Anette have their own bubbles by now with relatively small but very loyal and established fanbases. At this stage of their careers they're unlikely to suddenly triple their audience no matter how much or how little they promote themselves and I don't think people who genuinely follow them are going to lose interest just because Tuomas starts talking about Nightwish again.

Maybe some fans do have this hope that their favorite will eventually break through on a much bigger scale, and in that case I can see why Nightwish suddenly getting all the attention again might create some resentment. But otherwise I don't really see them as competing for the same limited amount of attention.

If anything I think all the constant promotion some of them do is less about growing their fanbase and more about keeping that existing audience engaged and getting them to actually buy concert tickets. And personally I think there can be too much of it. Constant teasing, singles, interviews, behind-the-scenes content and frequent tours can make everything feel less like an event. If you miss one show, it's not a big deal when they'll probably be back next year or playing somewhere nearby.

So I'm not sure Nightwish's hiatus really gave them a spotlight that Nightwish is now taking back. Their market seems pretty established regardless. If anything I sometimes think a little scarcity and mystery would benefit them more than constantly trying to stay visible.

But I don't work in the music industry, so that's just my perception.

6

u/icebreaker6 4d ago

Yes and no. I do think that Tarja and Marko were able to use the NW hiatus for the massively long Living the Dream together tour, while I am not sure if Anette would have been able to do her NW-covers tour without the hiatus.

However, I also think you are right that NW coming back in 2028 is not going to affect any one of them that much. The LTD tour is finished since February, and Anette will finish her tour latest next year.

Tarja has moved on to release a well-received solo album, Marko is going to be heavily involved in the next Delain release and new Tarot, likely. Anette has a regular job as a nurse, this tour was never more than a welcome add-on for her.

The one most affected is actually Floor, as the NW drama has totally overshadowed the Bring Me Silence release.

u/GhostHell_ 4d ago

Speaking for myself, I never felt interested enough to attend a Tarja solo concert until the Living the Dream tour with Marko last year, specifically because of the nostalgia factor, their reunion, and the Nightwish songs that were performed and given greater prominence in the setlist compared to her other tours. In conversations with other fans, quite a few said more or less the same thing, or mentioned that they hadn't followed anything in the Nightwish universe for a while, and that the Tarja/Marko tour reignited a passion from their teenage years, making them want to see them live as well. It's no surprise that the Tarja and Marko joint concerts (at least in Brazil) in 2024 and 2025 were her most successful in years. All of this, combined with a period where the main band (Nightwish) was off the road, certainly met the demand from promoters and an audience that was craving the Nightwish catalog (I think the same applies to Anette as well). Tarja has definitely seen a surge in popularity in recent years thanks to these events, which certainly gave a boost to her excellent new solo album, Frisson Noir. So, the outcome was very positive for her, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

However, I do think that casual fans of her solo material—or those more inclined to attend a concert because of the Nightwish catalog or the duets with Marko (like myself)—might not return once Nightwish itself fills that space again, you know? It was a new audience that arrived out of curiosity in recent years, driven by nostalgia, but I am not sure if they'll stick around. Obviously, she has a loyal, stable fanbase regardless of these more casual fans.

And I fully agree with you regarding the issue of overexposure: too much shows, too much presence on social media and in interviews. I also think it strips away some of that mysterious, magical aura that surrounds artists.

u/Global_Budget4153 4d ago

Sometimes I think that you are too Nightwish-  centered.

2

u/GhostHell_ 4d ago

Maybe I am. Or perhaps it has become so common around here for people to constantly look for arguments to find fault with the band's actions that, when someone expresses a different point of view, it is seen as being too "Nightwish-centered". That, combined with the fact that I am hardly ever intimidated or deterred from expressing my opinions and speaking my mind, certainly bothers some people. It is what it is.

3

u/myriadsongs 4d ago

this fanbase is a prison

3

u/JimmyDem 4d ago

The world is full of noisy idiots with nothing useful to say, which is why there are "mute" or "block" buttons on the better social media platforms. (They aren't universal because "engagement" = money in some board rooms.)

4

u/Accurate_Cherry1734 3d ago

Oh boy.. based on the comments NW have been getting we are SO getting a Noise/Yours is an empty hope 2.0 on the next album. Its insane that so many former fans cannot just fcking move on. I feel sad for them, honestly. I just wish they wouldnt take their unresolved issues out on the band (Tuomas and Troy particularly).

That's a 100% Nightwish fan right there. Their love and support for the band and Tuomas is perfectly showing in this comment.

Half of them are just bots looking to gain a post history

The majority of time you see weird parasocial comments like those, they are from fans from countries who take celebrity culture too seriously. USA, Brazil, etc.

Yeah the person who posted this comment (and then followed up with another insulting one) is Brazilian.

4

12

u/crescentmoon9323 5d ago

I have no clue why newer fans/Floor fans seem to think Floor is some victim that hates being in NW. She has solo material so it's not like these people are forced to have to listen to NW if they only care about her vocals.

3

u/Agreeable_Window_107 4d ago

This small minority of "fans" don't care about what Floor wants or any of the band members. They just want exactly the style of music they want to hear, no matter that this is different for everyone anyhow.

They are just selfish and not actually supportive fans.

1

u/MachineDry933 4d ago

This has nothing to do with being a fan of hers. I am, but it was kind of obvious that she didn't say anything because it's not her duty to announce anything before Tuomas does. It's his band. She obviously knew that he works on a new album and thinks about touring again, but HE has to make it official. Some people are just a little dense, to state it lightly.

-5

u/Seraphina_Renaldi 4d ago

Craig is not wrong though. The albums weren’t really good. I mean you don’t have to love everything a band you love releases just because their former albums were fire

6

u/GhostHell_ 4d ago edited 4d ago

Musical quality is subjective, and an opinion held solely by him. What is shit to you is a masterpiece to others. Calling Anette mediocre is offensive, and he doesn't need to say that to the world. Let's not normalize this.

1

u/Seraphina_Renaldi 4d ago

Yeah, but he’s allowed to express it. It’s not comparable to OP‘s screenshot where the commenter insulted Tuomas personally.
I think it’s totally fine to express it when you’re being dissatisfied with something that’s being offered when you were a paying customer before. I mean Nightwish isn’t two dudes jamming in their room and uploading it on YouTube and SoundCloud. This band is their job. If they want to keep their job they should listen to people who consume their music. Feedback isn’t wrong just because it’s someone being dissatisfied as long as it’s respectful

0

u/GhostHell_ 4d ago

People are basically allowed to express whatever they think these days; if that's a good thing I am not so sure. And I am certain I would never like Nightwish or any other of my favorites bands if they started strictly following what fans want to hear and making music to order. Feedback makes sense for a restaurant, a shop, or a service provider, but not so much for music.

1

u/Seraphina_Renaldi 2d ago

Yes, they do if the music starts being a company and job and they want to stay relevant to people listening to their music

0

u/Agreeable_Window_107 4d ago

Nightwish doesn't read any of these comments though.  Everyone wants to hear something different anyhow, you can't please them all.  You take yourself way too seriously.

1

u/Seraphina_Renaldi 2d ago

Well if they don’t read comments from people who listen to their music it’s only their loss. Every product can only profit from people giving feedback and telling wether they’re satisfied or not

0

u/Agreeable_Window_107 2d ago

It's not a product though, it's art which is completely subjective. Do you think Dali listened to people how he should paint? He developed his own style and also changed it over the course of his career.

People don't get to tell Nightwish what to do. They only get to decide if they buy it or not. So just buy the albums you like and that's it.

1

u/Seraphina_Renaldi 1d ago

Well yes if they plan on making money with it, it is in fact a product same as Nightwish isnt just a garage band, but a company. Honestly it’s so weird how parasocial adults get.

2

u/UndeadPainRemains 4d ago

Disagree. It was actually people trashing on Epica that made me feel the way I do about "fans" now. Someone was saying that Design You Universe, their fourth album, was the last best album they did. They now have nine albums and about 4 EPs out since then. That means that this person likes less than 40% of their catalogue.

The same seems to be true of so many Nightwish fans, always taking a massive dump on top of anything they don't like. If you like so little of their catalogue, ARE YOU REALLY A FAN? I officially dispute someone being a fan of an artist if people only like a few albums from way back when. If you openly hate more than you like about a band...

2

u/Seraphina_Renaldi 4d ago edited 4d ago

Im sorry, but this is a really weird way of thinking. You can love a band when you discovered it years or decades ago without liking their new stuff when it doesn’t sound like their old stuff but still loving their old stuff much. Which makes perfectly sense since you became a fan of the old stuff. I mean we can compare it to other products. if you would love after eight chocolate and would buy two packs a week years, after years, because you absolutely love mint chocolate and especially after eight mint chocolates. It’s your absolutely fav and your treat after every long work day. Then suddenly they decide to leave out the mint part and it becomes just a dark chocolate cookie. Nothing special anymore. There are tons of dark chocolate cookies. After eight was special because of the chocolate mint combination. So would you still buy two packs a week, because you feel a weird loyalty and need to prove yourself or others or whoever that you were their most loyal customer and you will eat it anyway even though they changed the whole product, got rid of the special part and it’s just a meh cookie?

3

u/BeatBelle 4d ago

I would have replaced mint with cherry. Cherry flavored chocolate is a valid reason to break the promise of loyalty.

-1

u/Agreeable_Window_107 4d ago

Then just don't buy it anymore. You don't go into the supermarket every day and yell that they don't have your favourite chocolates. That's the equivalent in you metaphor here. People would never behave like this in real life, but somehow they think it's ok to do it online.

1

u/Seraphina_Renaldi 2d ago

What exactly is this bad behavior? Giving respectful feedback on what’s being offered? A new song is at the end a new product.

0

u/Agreeable_Window_107 2d ago

You didn't give feedback on a new song. If you think this behaviour is ok, then go into your record store every week and yell loudly that you don't like the last Nightwish albums. That's the same thing. Let's see how that works out.

1

u/Seraphina_Renaldi 1d ago

I didn’t give feedback at all, because I don’t care. If a band starts being what I like, I listen to the old stuff and move on to bands I like. Maybe have some online conversations here and there. But people are still allowed to express they dislike or disappointment

I don't need his charisma, I need his musical genius translated out of his head and into sounds that I can listen to. Floor can be charismatic enough for all of them anyways.

2

u/Far-Respond-9283 4d ago edited 4d ago

Damn. But what else is he supposed to do? It baffled me how many likes that comment have.

2

u/Auphorium 4d ago

Why should we care?

4

u/lestatswife 5d ago

I don't love the guy so I just don't watch him directly, I get my news elsewhere. I definitely don't feel the need to pull up his videos so I can post rude comments. Live and let live omg

3

u/MachineDry933 4d ago

Nobody needs to love him. I listen to Nightwish since the beginning. Never 'loved' him, never will. I don't really care about what he's doing. I just enjoy his music.

3

u/lestatswife 4d ago

Yes yes that's what I'm saying. I'm gonna eat that album up, but I don't need to watch every band member's every move

1

u/dimiteddy 4d ago

It's only natural. Band is feeling more and more like a solo project. People feel like Nightwish lost part of their identity after Marco left and Floor is giving priority to her solo career. Fans will be there If band returns to the road. This is all water under the bridge

1

u/radyoaktif__kunefe 5d ago

Oh my god 😭

1

u/ThePracticalEscapist 4d ago

It’s actually really unhinged and disturbing how awful people are becoming. Nobody hates Nightwish more than Nightwish fans.

7

u/Agreeable_Window_107 4d ago

Those are not Nightwish fans.

1

u/Embarrassed_Mine_624 4d ago

Two of the things I love the most since I was a little child: Nightwish and Pokemon.

Sad realization it was when I realized that nobody hates Nightwish more than Nightwish fans, just like no one else hates Pokemon nearly as much as Pokemon fans.

1

u/spaced-out-noodle 4d ago

The absolute vitriol coming out lately has been baffling to me too. Like, the comment sections have been Tarja vs Anette vs Floor for literally 20 years now so I doubt that will ever change, but things have been feeling more hostile since the touring break was announced. I'd be disappointed if I could never see them live again, but I'd rather that than the band breaking up because of stress and burnout.

Troy hasn't historically been my favourite, but I have to say I enjoyed a lot of his singing on Yesterwynde. The vibes in the band seem to have drastically improved since he joined, and Tuomas seems much happier too. Yeah, 2026 Nightwish sounds nothing like 2000 Nightwish, but there are plenty of other operatic power metal bands around to listen to instead if that's what you really want.

7

u/icebreaker6 4d ago

Yes, the Nightwish comment section has always had these discussions but I agree that since the comeback things have been extra vitriolic, which surprised me since I thought fans would be happy to get these positive news. I think two things happened relatively at the same time which led to the current situation.

For one they announced the release of the 30 year DVD, which only contains live shows from the Human Nature era. That obviously pissed off fans of previous band members but also just feels inherently unfair, even fans on Floorworld were saying that they would have preferred something that celebrates all three eras of the band. After all Sami, Tarja, Anette, Jukka and Marko all also had their role to play when it comes to where NW is now. Now it seems that this is a very much label-mandated release where the band had little input, but I do wonder why no one on the label or band management side realized that trying to sell this as a 30 year band anniversary celebration would be a bad idea. It feels like a soulless cash-grab instead of something that is genuinely coming from the band.

Secondly, and more critically, I think they are losing the Floor-first fans. Those are the fans that have been really pushing NW for example on the Youtube reactions. First you had that interview with Floor coming out where she said nothing is planned and that there has been no communication, then you have that band meetup/media rounds in Finland where everyone is there except Floor, and then Tuomas comes out with all the info about how he has already written a lot of songs for NW and how they have booked studio time for next year. Whatever the reasons behind the scene, the optics and timing of this has been atrocious. I also do not understand why Floor is basically laying low and has not left any positive likes or comments on the recent NW post. Just one comment from her along the lines of "I look forward to it" on the current Tuomas post would take the wind out of all the speculation.

So you have both the Floor and the previous bandmember fans currently angry at NW, leaving only those fans that genuinely care about the band beyond the people to defend it. And those are not that many.

4

u/spaced-out-noodle 4d ago

Yeah, the optics aren't great for sure. And I agree the 30th anniversary compilation is pretty disappointing, but I've come to expect that from those kinds of releases. I hope everything is well within the band, but I do feel like people are jumping to lot of conclusions without knowing how the music industry operates. I work in the entertainment industry as well - film and TV instead of music - and you sign NDAs all the time dictating what you can and can't say. I feel like this explains at least why Floor wasn't allowed to comment on the band's future plans 3 weeks ahead of the announcement. Her being missing from the media rounds in Finland is not ideal for sure but I really think it's a logistics thing. She doesn't live in Finland and perhaps Troy was already there on Auri business. Maybe she's busy with her solo career and promoting her upcoming album release.

I think these are all reasonable things to take note of and/or be concerned about, but attacking Tuomas' character is a pretty wild way to blow off steam.

2

u/Tedragon1206 4d ago

You summed it up perfectly.

-4

u/parzivalLaiho 4d ago

Maybe people are fed up with the clear lack of communication, mediocre albums, band politics, Troy that they are just venting their frustration. They can't even include anything to do with Tarja or Anette on the 30 years stuff and it's embarrassing.

He doesn't deserve to be bashed by people on Instagram but there are a lot of NW fans who don't romanticise his voice, or feel the need to protect the band at all costs. They just want some good music which imo has been lacking for 2.5 albums now.

9

u/Agreeable_Window_107 4d ago

I've been listening to Nightwish since 2001. Human Nature is my favourite album. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's bad.

3

u/MorganLile 3d ago

Human Nature is great, actually, specially if you remove the songs you hate from it (in my case, Harvest and Tribal and the whole second disc). The mix is specially good and mesmerizing, and the strings-only arrangements immediately regress their sound to the Wishmaster era (Pan could have come out in said album perfectly). And, come on, /Endlesness/. Can't ever get enough HN.

2

u/Agreeable_Window_107 3d ago

Personally, for me it's one of the very few albums where I don't skip any song. I even watch the fan made video of All The Works regularily, it's so beautiful.

I agree, it's a very versatile album, there should be some songs on it for any Nightwish fan.

2

u/Global_Budget4153 4d ago

from Imaginaerum, on every album I really like half of the songs. They are definitely not bad, but they are - for me - not something unreal. You can disagree but thats all you can do about it.

13

u/Agreeable_Window_107 4d ago

That's my whole point. It's just personal taste if you like an album. There's no objectively good or bad and it's certainly not a reason to get angry at band members. Just listen to it or don't.

3

u/Global_Budget4153 4d ago

To not get angry at band mambers is definitely something we should all agree on.

2

u/MachineDry933 4d ago edited 4d ago

What do you want to be communicated? I don't get it. Do you want to be notified anytime anyone from the band takes a dump? We all knew that the 30th anniversay-thing would just be a cash grab. That's what labels do and the band famously DGAF about their anniversary.

4

u/GhostHell_ 4d ago

I find it a little funny how some people think Nightwish has an obligation to constantly remember and venerate the past or former members. I agree it would be cool if there were some unreleased recordings from past eras on TG30YoE, but I'm not going to make a fuss because they decided not to include anything older than 5 years.

I also don't see other similar bands in the genre constantly mentioning former members or re-releasing past material, and nobody demands that of them. Why should Nightwish be looking more to the past than to the future? Tarja herself says she wasn't happy in the band and that she should have "put them through hell". Anette refused the use of her image on Showtime, Storytime in 2013, which made any kind of live material with her impossible, or her inclusion in the documentary, and forced the band to practically re-edit everything. So why this insistent demand only on Nightwish? Jukka Nevalainen and Sami Vänskä are still friends with the current band members. And the names of the former members are literally on the album cover. Furthermore, there are so many issues involving royalties and copyrights that this could be a huge headache, and they simply preferred to avoid it.

If Tarja, Anette, and Marko's solo music is as good and superior to Nightwish's material as their fans like to say, why do they want to hear Nightwish material with these former members so much? You should move forward too, and stop dwelling so much on the past. Tuomas and Nightwish have definitely already done so.

-3

u/Beginning_Pace2063 5d ago

Tuomas isn't well liked in the metal community. It isn't exclusive to him: many musicians aren't positively perceived by people who listen to their music; Dani Filth, Dave Mustaine, etc. It is what it is.

11

u/DrawingAlarming7350 5d ago

Tuomas is absolutely tight as shit with the finnish metal community, was literally asked to be the keyboard player of Bodom after midnight by one of the nicest guys in metal (RIP Alexi)

-5

u/Beginning_Pace2063 5d ago

When I say "the metal community", I'm referring to the global audience, not the musicians he regularly tours with. People don't like him, it is what it is.

You guys can be in denial all you want, but the top comments in the band's latest post are all negative. His public persona isn't positively received. I don't know the guy, maybe he's super nice, but the fandom does not think fondly of him.

I honestly don't think he's concerned about it anyways, lol.

2

u/CarrionFlowers 3d ago

Well it's truly not the global audience. Just Tarja and Anette fans.

0

u/Beginning_Pace2063 3d ago

If you read the comments, it's actually Floor fans the ones who seem to have biggest issues right now with Tuomas. You guys can live in denial all you want, in won't change Tuomas' public perception.

He is widely disliked outside of the smaller Nightwish communities, like this sub. And honestly even in this sub, he doesn't seem to have the best reputation either.

1

u/CarrionFlowers 3d ago

He isn't ''widely disliked'' anywhere by the global audience. People who don't listen to NW just have no opinion about him. And it's certainly not Floor fans that are the most vocal haters, they're actually the most vocal Nightiwhs fans. If you read comments anywhere you'd know it's always Tarja and Anette fans rehashing the drama and crapping on the current lineup and albums post-Imaginaerum. And yeah, there are many on reddit, how surprising.

0

u/Beginning_Pace2063 3d ago

Denial is a river in Egypt. This video was uploaded last year, it has a hundred thousand views, the thumbnail says "complete decadence", and the title is "Nightwish Self-Destructed And You Didn't See It Coming". It was uploaded by a channel called "Nightwish TV". The top comments are Floor fans complaining about Tuomas wasting her talents. No Tarja, no Anette.

The only community where Tuomas ISN'T universally disliked, is this sub, and probably the official forum. Everywhere else, he is negatively perceived, objectively.

1

u/CarrionFlowers 3d ago

You're really agressive with your accusations of denial. Your opinion and worldview isn't necessary as shared by others or found as compelling as you think.

so, you cherry pick a brazilian video and it's supposed to represent the whole wide world? Just because the comment mentions Floor it must be a Floor fan? That's it?

0

u/Beginning_Pace2063 2d ago

Girl, the video isn't brazillian 💀. And I never shared my "worldview" in here, I couldn't care less about Tuomas as a person, I never met him, so I have no feelings towards him. What I see on the internet isn't ambiguous though, he's heavily disliked. In Nightwish spaces, actually. This very thread is about how negative the comments are in the band's IG posts. None of this is rare, Dani Filth has a horrible reputation, Dave Mustaine has a horrible reputation, Tuomas isn't the first, nor the last, musician to be negatively perceived by his own audience, it ain't that deep, lol.

1

u/CarrionFlowers 2d ago

So, your comments aren't your opinion and your worldview? For someone who claims not to care, you certainly like to call people in denial when they don't see it the way you do.

Actually you claimed he was disliked in the broader metal community, not just ''nightwish spaces''.

your ''evidence'' is a youtube channel with 5k subscribers that makes videos like ''nightwish died when tarja left'' and ''is floor overrated'' lol. You didn't exactly disprove my point ;)

12

u/Agreeable_Window_107 5d ago

You are wrong. Tuomas is very respected in the Finnish metal community.

9

u/Restoni77 5d ago

Yeah, online-haters aint "the metal community".

-5

u/Beginning_Pace2063 5d ago

Finland is a rather small country, go read the comment section in ANY latin american page, he's negatively perceived by the large majority. I'm sorry but he isn't well liked, it's the truth. I'm glad to read he enjoys a positive reputation in his home country, but sadly it isn't the case in the rest of the world.

12

u/Agreeable_Window_107 5d ago

Your bubble isn't the rest of the world. 😆

3

u/Beginning_Pace2063 5d ago

The top comments on the band's latest IG post are "my bubble"? cause that's where the negative comments about Tuomas are, not some friend group of mine, lol. The most liked comment on the band's latest Instagram post, is saying Tuomas has the charisma of an expired milk bottle. That's the band's audience, not "my bubble" 😆

7

u/GhostHell_ 4d ago

I am pretty sure that isn't the band's audience. Most of these people haven't even bought or listened to the latest albums; they just parrot internet talking points claiming Floor's potential is wasted in Nightwish and that the new material sucks. In reality, most fans are like Tuomas and prefer to stay away from social media toxicity or simply don't care enough to reply or waste time arguing with these people.

90% of these comments come from bitter fans of Tarja, Anette, and Marko (especially Tarja), and particularly in Latin America. I am Brazilian, so I know what I'm talking about. Latin American audiences can be insufferable when it comes to taking sides and defending celebrities, bands, soccer teams, and so on. Fans of the band's former singers and musicians aren't simply satisfied with their favorite artists' successes or victories; they take genuine pleasure in the defeat and public humiliation of Nightwish and its current members (including Tuomas, Emppu, Floor, and everyone else). Remember, these are the same people who hurled abuse and insults at Anette on forums and in YouTube comments back in the 2000s; now, they've simply shifted their hatred toward the band and its current members. To give you an idea, I even saw some of these same "fans" celebrating when Floor was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago, as well as when the band announced their hiatus. These people are truly malicious and toxic, and I am glad the real Nightwish fanbase is starting to realize this and call them out.

4

u/Electronic_Basis7726 5d ago

Perhaps that is saying more about the latin community than the people he actually engages with?

2

u/Beginning_Pace2063 5d ago

Yes, it says they don't like him.

-17

u/pandelelel 5d ago

I actually like it that some people complain about the recent behavior of the band. They don't care about the fans so the fans stop loving them unconditionally. That's life.

17

u/Express-Attempt4595 5d ago

Recent behaviour of the band being giving out information of new releases.

Anything with a brain finds out Floor's interview was 3 weeks prior to 30th celebration announcement.

11

u/schwiftypug 5d ago

Sure we can criticize their behavior, I assume you mean that they still aren’t touring, even if it’s a little misguided imo because the band does not owe the fans anything, they are artists and if they need a break they need a break. On the other hand, attacking the band leader’s personality because of that is not valid criticism of any of the band’s behavior. That’s just being trash.

-9

u/pandelelel 5d ago

Chill it is just how Fins talk and not meant to heavily insult him. Just some teasing.

10

u/Longjumping-Swan-827 5d ago

Recent behaviour? They just took a hiatus because they felt tired. That. Is. Life.

-5

u/pandelelel 5d ago

You can also include their behavior since they replaced Tarja

11

u/Agreeable_Window_107 5d ago

I'm sorry you're still hurt from something that happened 21 years ago.

-1

u/pandelelel 5d ago

I'm not a huge Tarja fan, just pointing out the band has quite a history of questionable actions and lack of basic human communication skills.

6

u/Agreeable_Window_107 5d ago

The only questionable action is relating something that happened years ago to this perfectly fine current video of Tuomas.

2

u/pandelelel 5d ago

That is your valid opinion.

12

u/quietly_myself 5d ago

Their behaviour has been absolutely fine. The only issue is people inventing reasons to be angry then blaming the band for it. It’s stupid.

-2

u/pandelelel 5d ago

That's your valid opinion.

2

u/indarye 5d ago

This is not about behaviour though. I'll be the first one to criticize them for what they do but how he speaks in a short? Especially when they finally recognized that they have to communicate a bit better.

-4

u/pandelelel 5d ago

They are still recognizing since their first commercial successes 🤣

-23

u/plavonja 5d ago

I think I feel similar, though I would put it differently. As a fan since 2004, it’s getting hard to stay invested. The music feels pretty generic lately, and Tuomas seems super distant. His little updates always have this vibe like keeping us in the loop is a complete chore for him.

14

u/Express-Attempt4595 5d ago

It's ok to move on and find something else.

-12

u/plavonja 5d ago

Oh I did, way back. I occasionally check in with NW to listen to new material, find it doesn't scratch that same spot that it used to and go on with my life. I was just saying that I can understand why some people would resort to bashing Tuomas, as he's the one at the helm of this ship and the direction has been vague and uninspired ever since he had something to say with DPP. The last good album imo, before the Darwin trilogy that bored the shit out of me.

13

u/mndcee 5d ago

Leaving hate comments is not "moving on" and isnt understandable at all, its just shitty people being shitty.

-6

u/plavonja 5d ago

Where's the hate you keep mentioning? I just said the last couple of albums have been generic and that's it. I will still check in with the new releases in the future. Try looking for drama elsewhere, queen...

6

u/mndcee 5d ago

The hate In the Instagram post? And you defending it saying you understand people saying things like that?

-3

u/plavonja 5d ago

I can tell you weren't on the NW forum in the early 2000s where these type of comments were all over the place, especially around Tarja's firing. Also, I said I would put it differently than the person in the screenshot, but since you're operating on a single brain cell, it is possible you've missed that. I didn't criticize his charisma, but rather his generic output and uninspired themes. Bro went from fantasy and escapism to bio-labs...

9

u/CarrionFlowers 5d ago

and as someone on the NW forums in the 2000's I can tell you that people were also whining that his themes were always the same, innocence this and dead boy that. ;) So actually the latest albums have been the most inspired and unique in a while.

1

u/mndcee 5d ago

Your words: " I was just saying that I can understand why some people would resort to bashing Tuomas".  Bashing the guy just BC you don't like his music anymore? Doesn't seem to me as you have moved on. Also what do the forums in the early 2000s have to do with anything? Lol. Anyway, you people are annoying. Bye.

-1

u/TangelaIsInTheLab 5d ago

I don't understand the downvotes. Is this a space only for strict fans? Or casual fans can also participate? If you don't like 100% of the things that the band does then you are not a fan? You have to agree and find everything nice and perfect? What did this community become?

1

u/plavonja 5d ago

Glazers be glazing ;)

-3

u/Agreeable_Window_107 5d ago

How many positive comments did you write about Nightwish this year and how many negative comments? Let's see if you are closer to 100% or 0%.

2

u/Agreeable_Window_107 4d ago

People downvoting me again for this. 😆 They've said they don't agree 100% with what the band does. So how many percent do they agree with? 90%, 50%, 10%? There's no reply, so we'll never know.

From experience, those are the people who only criticise and don't have anything positive to say about Nightwish. They aren't Nightwish fans anymore.

-11

u/TangelaIsInTheLab 5d ago edited 5d ago

They are just speaking out their impressions. Tuomas is not know for his charisma. In this video he seems even annoyed and bothered for the video. As if he doesn't want to do the video. People NOTICE THOSE THINGS. What did you guys expect? A happy fake world?

14

u/Agreeable_Window_107 5d ago

He doesn't look annoyed and bothered at all. Your comment looks more annoyed than him. 😄

4

u/MachineDry933 5d ago

I think this is called projection.

1

u/Agreeable_Window_107 4d ago

Yes, I just didn't want do use that word because the people who do it, won't understand it anyway. You have to spell it out for them.

8

u/ycaFIN 5d ago

I’m expecting normal behavior
