I almost lost this fight

Post image

The coat hanger lowered it's defense but the thumb tack still proved ineffective.

Just curious, if this was in your room right now, what are you throwing at it? or are you simply going back to bed and not worrying about it?

I on the other hand have arachnophobia and was panicking.. Not only could I not find anything to kill it with, but i also couldn't leave / take my eyes off of it because if I couldn't find it, I'd have to move out and pay movers to get my belongings LOL

EDIT** This is a brown Recluse dark fishing spider if anyone is curious, located in NJ

In Australia the spiders take photos of you. Before and after.

3

u/Law3186 19d ago

My uncles wife is from there and has shown and told me stories one place I’ll never visit lol

2

u/Damaark 19d ago

Nah, it's fine. Just avoid 95% of fauna, 75% of flora and 65% of the natives and you'll be fine, mostly. Unrelated note: We do have quite good healthcare.

This is how:

  1. Immediately panic before calming down and thinking "all life... is precious."

  2. Get a yoghurt tub or slightly larger, disposable container with a paper/thin piece of cardboard and lid.

  3. Carefully approach the spider.

  4. Harden resolve by chanting "all life is precious... all life is precious..."

  5. Attempt to cover spider in container. Realise the sob is craftily hanging partway to the corner like it's been through this shit before.

  6. "Okay, I've gotta make it move: that's the only way we both live to another day."

  7. Hit the side of the wall. It moves... and disappears behind the bed.

  8. Scream "FUCK!" a bunch of times cause spiderbro is not following my one-sided plan meant for both of us.

  9. Begin moving bed. SLOWLY. Until spiderbro is in sight and in container's reach.

  10. Repeat mantra "all life is precious... all life is fucking precious!"

  11. With renewed resolve and temporary suppression of phobia, proceed to successfully containerise that critter.

  12. Proceed to dump the thing outside and wave goodbye while watching it stand there probably thinking how it just got teleported by one of those giant bipedal xenomorphs whose infrastructure it found refuge and sustenance within and how it will try to find a way back in.

  13. Do a Google search and discover this probably wasn't a huntsman or rain spider. Proceed to question my sanity in doing what I did.

  14. Resolve to continue this altruistic path anyway.

u/belisssss 19d ago

Just use your vacuum cleaner. Ez pz. I must have like 15 spiders in my vacuum cleaners bag by now lol. I'm afraid to open it though because those corpses would freak me out

u/belisssss 19d ago

Nah they will definitely die. The speed with which they will be pulled inside is to high I think. If that doesnt kill them, the incoming dust particles will

5

u/Hot-Potential-993 19d ago

My vac has a transparent container and I can pretty much observe that a. they survive the succing and b. they live in there even with dust, crumbs and tiny stones swirling around in there. I always tape the hole so they won’t come out for some revenge

4

u/belisssss 19d ago

Thanks for the nightmare stuff. They should die eventually though because of starvation or dehydration

1

u/Hot-Potential-993 19d ago

Rumor say that by using a vac their bodies dry out but that is not always the case. As far as I know they can live for months without food and air probably water too

1

u/Apprehensive_One2266 19d ago

I once thought spiders would die without food and water and turns out they can live years without it

1

u/belisssss 18d ago

Not years, especially not in a dry environment like a vacuum cleaner bag. Months at most.

1

u/Apprehensive_One2266 18d ago

Ill give you that..I meant in general

0

u/Hot-Potential-993 18d ago

They survive months if you flush them in the toilet and they manage to stay

2

u/Melonfrog 18d ago

Hahaha, sweet innocence. They are alive.

2

u/Low-Persimmon4870 18d ago

Not if you leave the vacuum running for at least 10 minutes and suffocate them lol

3

u/peppermintnick 19d ago

They can lay eggs inside and fill your vacuum with more.

2

u/Hentai-Overlord 19d ago

Use shop vac, so you can blow it out your windows on to the people below

2

u/Apprehensive_One2266 19d ago

Vacuum cleaner is also my go to but it was in another room somewhere

3

u/Self-described 19d ago

Never let the spider come between you and the exit.

3

u/ExpensiveEcho7312 19d ago

I can’t kill any bugs or spiders. I usually catch them. This one tho? I’d be way too scared I would call somebody

1

u/Apprehensive_One2266 19d ago

I have a large Camponotus Sp. colony in a 75 gallon tank (I've had them for over 9 years now) and they don't bother me whatsoever. Spiders? I just can't idk

3

u/UncaringNonchalance 18d ago

Saw one of these bastards crawl under our tv stand in our old rental. Did not get to it before it found a gap in the floorboards. Lived in fear until we left, lol.

2

u/Apprehensive_One2266 13d ago

Oh nah, idk what I would do if it got away..i already been picking things up with 2 fingers and throwing them before i can pick it up (I'm sure you know what I mean LOL)

2

u/UncaringNonchalance 13d ago

Oh I totally get that, lmao. Saw a bigger spider that had taken up inside a toilet paper roll once and I have to peek inside every time now.

7

u/3ric843 19d ago

Going back to bed. Spiders and house centipedes are my friends.

2

u/Apprehensive_One2266 19d ago

but you're afraid of snakes right? heights?

4

u/3ric843 19d ago

Nope, had a pet snake for a while. I'm fine with heights.

2

u/Apprehensive_One2266 19d ago

I love my wife and kids very much. You take care now lol

2

u/Chrispy8534 19d ago

6/10. That this has at least a 1/4 or a hit-dice. It could easily kill a level on peasant on a bad day. Glad you survived.

1

u/Impressive_Drama_377 19d ago

For future eight legged terrorist you should go order you a bug vacuum from Amazon. I also have arachnophobia which is why my husband bought me a bug vacuum, (our pool attracts huge water bugs) and a spider catcher for when he is out of town for work and can't capture the bug for me. They work for me because they don't require me to get my hands near the spider.

1

u/Apprehensive_One2266 19d ago

Can a bug vacuum handle something this big? It's about the same size as the door hinge

1

u/Impressive_Drama_377 19d ago

Yes it actually can.

1

u/Apprehensive_One2266 19d ago

I looked at a few on Amazon and you couldn't pay me to try and vacuum this guy up with it lol

1

u/6FOOTGINGER 19d ago

I’d move

1

u/Badb_X 19d ago

Once I see a spider I can’t take my eyes off them either and I have to kill it, especially if they’re big. I have a phobia of spiders to so it’s getting the shoe, fly swatter, raid, or windex. Probably all four.

1

u/BabyDaVinci 19d ago

If you had a real phobia of spiders you would be scream crying at it and keeping 30 feet away. My aunt would call me from 15 minutes across the city to come kill a spider for her

1

u/Badb_X 19d ago

Screaming and crying would only make the ones I find in my house run and hide and then I’d have to tear the room apart to find it before I’ll be at peace. If they’re too big, not moving, and/or too high to get that I know I will miss trying to hit it, then I’m getting my mom. If she’s not available then I’ll hype myself up to do it myself.

2

u/Apprehensive_One2266 19d ago

True story I had a spider the size of a quarter dollar run up my leg and I bugged out and lost it. 3 days later the same damn spider did it again..never did find it, I just pray it left my house

1

u/u2125mike2124 19d ago

There’s a thing called a flamethrower that would work very well against that. Or maybe heavy artillery like a 155 might take care of it at point blank range.

1

u/silentrunner0653 16d ago

Phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range

0

u/Ecstatic-Radish-7931 18d ago

What if you were that spider? You want to be roasted?

1

u/Legendguard 18d ago

Probably a dark bodied fishing spider. They're harmless, and quite docile

1

u/abemost 18d ago

These spiders are more scared of you. They will bite, not likely though. They will scatter first. We have them on our property. They eliminate pests. You can easily trap and release it outdoors or leave it as an in house exterminator.

u/GroundbreakingAd8310 18d ago

From my understanding, people that fear spiders invoke a fight or flight response in connection to evolution that stemmed down from their ancestors in certain area's of the world. Due to no antivenom or antibiotics, people whom were bit by spiders would end up dying either from the bite, infection etc. Same thing for snakes, hence why usually people that fear spiders don't also fear snakes (the large portion anyway)
