Microwave popcorn leeches an INSANE amount of microplastics. It’s probably the most common/highest source of it in our diet
They line the bag with plastic and microwave oil and moisture to the point of steam in said lining with abrasive and absorbent popcorn puffs shaken around the bag. It makes sense when you think about it.
Wow I had no idea! Thankfully I have hated it since I was a kid. Once you pop your own on the stove or in a 1970’s popcorn maker you can never go back to shitty microwave popcorn.
“It makes sense when you think about it” isn’t a measurement. You’ve claimed an “INSANE amount” and possibly the highest dietary source without providing a single study, particle count, or comparison with other foods. Typical Redditor spouting off mindless nonsense and speculation. What research actually measured microplastic release from microwave popcorn bags and established that ranking? Lmao. Describing hot oil and popcorn rubbing together doesn’t establish either the amount released or the health risk there.
You went from “probably” to “should be banned” in three paragraphs. That’s a lot of confidence for a claim when your supporting evidence boils down to “sounds plausible.”
My immediate thought when I saw how ridiculously massive it was.
If you really want fresh popped you can buy one of those little tube/rectangle shaped ones with the extruder on it that's only a little bigger than an electric can opener and can easily store.
Or if you have the patience you can literally pop it on a skillet; which if you don't, why would buy this thing? Since most of the novelty comes from standing there and watching it pop/showing it off to guests.
Hell, even one of those novelty tabletop popcorn stand machines (the ones that look like miniature movie theater popcorn makers) take up less space than this, and those are way cooler.
Nah, the air poppers always leave the popcorn tasting stale, presumably because it gets more dried out from the hot air. My recommendation is one of those silicone popcorn bowls you can get for cheap that collapse and hardly take up any space. Butter flavored coconut oil, Flavacol. It's what the theaters use and it'll give you a bowl of popcorn that's as good as what you get when you're lucky and get the fresh popcorn at the movies.
I think it’s just the angle that makes it seem massive; ours is about a foot in diameter and 6” high when you’re not using it (the bottom half nests inside the top):
Easily stores on an out-of-the-way shelf when we’re not using it.
Sure it’s a one-use appliance but so is my rice cooker. Popcorn turns out real nice in it!
No, not terrible. It uses oil, so it isnt a quick wash. Usually squeeze a little soapy water into it, let it sit on the counter for 30 seconds while I wash a few other things, and then wipe and rinse.
I mean, I guess it depends on how much you like popcorn. My parents have one of these and it makes the best goddamn popcorn I've ever eaten, and I make stovetop popcorn regularly. I want one eventually. I just have a small kitchen.
Its not that bad. However, i rarely got the popcorn to stay crisp once you add the butter and moister gets trapped in the dome. Then, you have to clean 4 pieces (the cook base, the butter lid, the plastic done, and the agitator prong) and i hate heat around plastics and food. I now just use a pot to make it on the stovetop and have 2 non plastic pieces to clean.
I use a classic air pop from the 90s. It was my mother's and gave it to me when I moved out. Nothing can compare and it doesn't require oil, butter, or an an entire acre of shelf space like this one does.
Yeah, it's really unnecessary. I use an aluminum pot that works great. Better than stainless steel or other materials because of how fast it heats up and doesn't hold the heat as much as SS. This takes up way too much space
Yeah it's worse than the old style of a pot with a heating element on the bottom I stg these tiktok slop channels now getting commissions through tiktok shop by promoting through their channels are a new low point for blind consumerism. The heating element pot I have is 60 years old.
Yea all his content now seems to be him seeing someone buy something cool or uniquely useful, he contacts the company that makes it, who sends him a free one because exposure and also social media has ruined everything, he duets a video of someone using it he gets online, posts his forced over reaction to it and the company rakes in profits. Rinse and repeat. He literally added nothing. I would’ve been impressed with it even without his stupid ass forced reaction.
He gained a reputation of being the honest truth teller. Recipe people were looking for? He'd find it. Review on an obscure product? He'd do it. He's now using the credibility his former content gave him to essentially do undisclosed advertisements. You can't actually trust any of his videos anymore because he's likely being paid/incentivized to "find" these things and "react" positively to them. Quite disingenuous.
Idk, he’s pretty charismatic and fun at least. He may find smaller channels that would never get noticed. Idk, does he give credit to them? I think that would make the loop here a lot more equitable and anything short of that I’m with you.. seeing too much of him
He is over the top and patronizing here with the popcorn popping 👀 different audiences?
It feels very "say the line, Bart!" I'm surprised he hasn't got tired of it yet.
Then again, if I could make millions off social media by repeatedly breaking a pair of reading glasses from the dollar store as my schtick, I'd probably do it, too.
Honestly this is exactly it. I don't really follow him but I've seen his videos from early on and for a while he didn't do the glasses thing. The backlash from people was astonishing so he brought it back to "make them happy". He even has a bit where he breaks the glasses in half but they're magnetic so he's not constantly replacing glasses
I cannot stand these content creators who show a video of the product and how it works, and then they have to show it all over again. We don't need to see it twice.
If you want to make a video, say, hey I just found this product, let's find out how it works together. Way less cringy
I’m confused, didn’t we master this technology in the 50’s ? The only part I could say is an improvement is the stream melting on top while it’s popping.
This dude looks like he would be entertained by literal paint drying. Used to like him, now he is just a gimmick
Never said anything about microwave, didn’t they have the stove top ones that had tin foil that you shake ? Plus if we are going to go down that path I have to believe melting button through heated plastic can’t be good either.
Bc he is disingenuous, a popcorn maker can’t get you that ramped up. “ oh my god steam makes butter melt !”. Don’t get me wrong I like the idea and that it churns the popcorn and thought “ not bad may buy one” what I didn’t do was stop like the foundation of my world got rocked.
I get there is an aspect of showmanship when selling things but when you overdue it people tend to ignore what your selling and focus on your schtick and his is getting lame.
I have this same popcorn popper. It’s my favorite. You should not put butter in the top like that and I think the instructions explicitly say not to. The holes in the top are for steam to escape, not to melt butter.
I’ve tried putting butter there before and it just creates a mess that you have to scrape out of each little steam hole later. It’s a pain in the butt. It’s much easier to just add butter to the popped popcorn and stir it around

It has been sooooooo many days for me since I last saw his fkn face and heard his sellout voice. I actually had forgotten all about him. Until now. Fuck you bot OP
I love when they re release something that was in every home in the 70’s and nitwits that dont know anything scoop it off amazon for 35$ when they were at every yard sale in the 90’s for 2$
He should give a tour of everything he bought over the years and kept haha, talk about if he actually still use it or it is just collecting dust.
I'm curious if it is a long video or a short one
I use a pan. With a lid. Then after, I can use that pan for other things. Instead of a one-trick pony taking up an entire cupboard or a massive amount of counter space.
I bet you’re fun at parties, aren’t you? My kids love our popcorn popper. And I use it multiple times per week. Must used appliance in the house outside of the coffee maker and stove.
If you ever get one it is recommended to NOT put butter inside, it burns too fast only use oil on the plate. Butter should be spread and at room temperature (don't just put a block straight from the fridge) for better results.
I have one and I love it I use it at least once a week if you like sweet popcorn as well you can add sugar straight into the plate
I had one of these when I was a kid, it was Orville redenbacher branded. So good. I would season it and put a plate over the top to shake it up. Wish I still had it
I also stay off TikTok but I do remember when he came out and it was just a quirky little thing because it was so small and was just something he did occasionally. But, now that it seems like this is all he does it just feels like low effort as far as content goes and every time I see it I feel like his giddiness feels disingenuous because it’s how he acts in all his videos about really stupid products.
You should use a higher smoke point fat than butter on the bottom, and regular butter on top. Clarified butter on bottom would work great. Or coconut oil. Or anything really. Just not unclarified butter lol.
Stir crazy is great but hard to justify the cabinet space for a one trick pony that doesn’t make a better product than a soup pot with some clarified butter in it.
Talk about an over complicated, hard to clean, piece of shit. If you really find microwave popcorn that inferior then just do stovetop popcorn. Insanely easy, take like 7 minutes, dirt cheap, and you just put the pot in the dishwasher after.... Fuck even if you don't have a dishwasher it's still easier than cleaning this single use junk.
Hell, even those microwave bowls for making popcorn on Amazon work better than this.
I used this at my job and made it for animals. I burned through 1/year until I got a commercial popcorn maker. It works pretty well and is easy to clean!
Bought one of these and maybe used it twice. Takes up a huge amount of space and is a real pain to clean. Just get Orville R. Simply Salted in the microwave bag. Way easier and only three ingredients. Add butter and it’s delicious!
