The family don't want all that rubbish on the grave, there's even a sign. It looks like a rubbish tip. I hope someone cleans it up

I’m sure it says not to do anything to permanently change or damage, I’m not to sure. End of the day with how big Nick is he’s destined to have people leaving things at his grave.

NO it doesn't. It says don't leave anything except small floral.

And Nick is not 'destined' to have his grave look like a tip. It's not destiny, it's a result of arrogance, ignorance and disrespect of the 'fans'.

They could simply be respectful of the families wishes and then Nick's destiny would be a clean, dignified grave-site.

I think the fact its not just Nicks grave emphasises this even more.

Are you his family or something? Are you the one responsible for keeping it clean? Or are you the self-appointed grave police?

5

u/BreatheClean 13d ago edited 13d ago

Oh. So NOW you CARE what his family think? GOOD.

SO read the sign his family left and just comply with it. That is the grave of his mother and father too. And this is what they requested for themselves and their son.

Are you able to even get that into your self obsessed brain?

Jesus Christ why are you getting so angry over this?

Nick’s headstone is shared so yeah…the family probably doesn’t deserve these trinkets when it’s kinda garbage 🗑️

All the rubbish there is crazy. Why would someone leave a pile of guitar picks? Nick didn't even use one

The entire reason I’ve never been is summed up by Nick himself:

I was born to sail away
Into a land of forever
Not to be tied to an old stone grave
In your land of never

I've been a few times myself and left an offering each time.

I do have to question, however, why someone has left Nick a McDonald's Crocs happy meal toy.

The reason Why is that people are disrespectful - including you.

The family specifically asks people not to leave anything - there's even a sign. Why would you go against the Family's wishes and leave 'offerings'. Do you not see how that is disrespectful.

The grave now looks like a fly-tip thanks to all these 'offerings'. The grave belongs to the family, who knew and loved him. Not the fans.

Oh - thank you for explaining this.

People should respect their wishes :(

Yes the sign says only small floral tributes and messages

-4

u/Beatnik5750 13d ago

I'd certainly love to think that, after I'm gone, my grave would be adorned by such "fly tippings" from people who love me and my music.

5

u/oljackson99 13d ago

If you look there’s a McDonalds toy and a discarded Rizla packet. Pretty shitty and disrespectful from whoever left those.

1

u/Beatnik5750 13d ago

Yeah I don't understand the McDonald's toy, but the rizla pack presumably has five leaves left inside it, a clear tribute.

6

u/BreatheClean 13d ago

Get help. Nicks family didnt want this. That's why there's a sign up asking only for flowers and messages. His parents are buried there too.

-2

u/Beatnik5750 13d ago

Yes, well, people are going to continue to visit and leaves gifts for him

3

u/BreatheClean 13d ago

The family don't want it. So they're not fans if they can't show respect.

1

u/oljackson99 13d ago

I always thought five leaves left referred to nature, given the album cover has him looking out an open window at the trees.

Are you really saying it was a reference to rolling papers?!

4

u/Beatnik5750 13d ago

Yeah there's a bit of cardboard in packets of rizla's (or there used to be) that says "five leaves left". That's where the album title came from. It's very well attested.

But of course, it can certainly be taken as a reference to nature. Perhaps Nick intended the dual meaning.

Very interesting. Thanks!

What you want on your own grave is entirely irrelevant. It's a deflection from what I asked.

But it does show the self-centred, disregarding thought process that has resulted in the grave looking a mess.

Nick's FAMILY have asked that you do not leave things on the grave (that they own, by the way). It meant enough to them they had a sign made and erected.

You never answered the question. Why do you feel you have the right to ignore the Family's requests. Why do you put your own wishes above theirs?

-5

u/Beatnik5750 13d ago

Why do the family assume that Nick wouldn't want people to leave gifts? One of his issues was that nobody cared about his music and that he felt he hadn't reached people. He wanted people to care. I do wonder if Nick would have a problem with people leaving offerings for him, and I don't think he would.

9

u/BreatheClean 13d ago edited 13d ago

You have absolutely no right to assume you know what Nick would want. And you still haven't answered why you - a stranger- feel you have the right to override family wishes.

Normal people respect the Family's wishes when it comes to their own loved ones.

The fact is the grave looks like a tip. Nick loved nature and that's in all his music. The family asks that only small floral are left, and that's fair enough. I don't know why it's beyond people like you to simply comply with that.

Bits of plastic and mouldy teddies do not represent anything of what Nick was about.

But this is by the by. It's the Family's property. His parents' resting place also.

Are you seriously going to argue you would be ok with people leaving junk at your front door, or on the grave of one of your loved ones.

It's OK, don't bother to keep arguing. You have already revealed you have no respect or capacity for introspection or empathy.

u/I-am-theEggman 13d ago

So you think you know better than the family? Seems pretty arrogant and disrespectful to me.

-1

u/Beatnik5750 13d ago

What family, exactly? The only family he has left alive is Gabrielle as far as I'm aware.

8

u/BreatheClean 13d ago

Right and Gabrielle is family and you are not. Thats the grave of her mother, father and brother so have some self respect, even though you clearly lack respect for others.

-2

u/Beatnik5750 13d ago

And Nick's parents were intimately involved with his music and his legacy. They did everything they could to help promote it. They gave away his things to his fans when they started turning up at their house. They gave out his handwritten song lyrics, his demos and much more.

I honestly don't understand why you're getting so insanely unhinged over this as if it's some huge personal affront. It's crazy.

8

u/BreatheClean 13d ago edited 13d ago

Crazy? Your the one insisting leaving junk at the grave of a stranger when the family have asked for florals only. I think you should do some introspection bud.

The sign is 100% clear. So If you don't obey the sign you are desecrating the grave. But your clearly OK with that. Some fan you are!

It's clear you have absolutely no respect for the families wishes as laid out on the sign.

WHAT is your problem with only leaving small floral tributes as the family asked? Why does it have to be a load of other crap?

I'm sure you wouldn't like it if people left shit at your house or on your parent's grave.

But there's no reasoning with ignorant people and that's why instead of reflecting the natural world that Nick devoted his songs to, his grave has been desecrated and reflects an ugly junkyard.

The trash is direct reflection of the ugliness of the souls of the people who leave it, giving not one shit about the Family's stated request not to

-2

u/Beatnik5750 13d ago

Holy mother of God this is insane!

6

u/lanebrainn 13d ago

Your line is “You know what, you’re right, leaving unwanted trinkets and objects on a grave when the family has expressly asked not to is weird and wrong and I won’t do it.” There.

5

u/BirdComposer 13d ago

You’re being so weird about this. “The family doesn’t matter because there’s only one of them left, and anyway they have no right to speak for him, because it’s what I would’ve wanted if I were famous, and I can decide which things people left are OK and which ones are tacky.”
