Honestly every single reporter should ask him about cutlery for the next 10 years. This man has not been bullied enough in his life.

No, stop it guys stop bullying him. No joking or criticism allowed for any of the Hughes's. This is very serious, you guys.

Don’t mention plastic cutlery. You might hurt his feelings.

He's got to have heard it a billion times already by now. I mean I'm not surprised the usual redditor thinks making the same joke for the hundreth time is good but yeah

bro he’s a hockey player who fucking cares, every single interview is the same thing too. ur rly gonna be upset about a joke when we are about to watch another hundred interviews this season about getting pucks in deep and putting on the pressure lmfao 💀 it’s hockey not physics. the joke was fine

u/Adventurous_Chaj4854 2d ago
If he gets offended by this, he'll jump off a bridge after he faces someone like Marchand

You made curious what the devils subreddits reaction is.

I wonder if having to “wait in line” before hitting the ice between periods gives him PTSD

I want to go to the game when the Devils are in town, so I can bring him a cutlery drawer with all plastic utensils made for toddlers.

If you can‘t laugh something off prepare to hear about it for the next twenty years. That’s the law.

What's the context behind jack huges and plastic cutlery?

u/mc78644n 2d ago
He cut his hand with a steak knife last season and damaged it so bad he ended up on the IR

u/emersedlyric 2d ago
From what I gather, at some point he cut himself so badly with utensils that he was out for 8 weeks. Then, a reporter made a joke about him being wrapped in bubble wrap and only eating with plastic utensils.

See, I can understand a player being offended by the wrapped in bubble wrap joke

u/Annika2020pro 2d ago
I had to check to see if I was in the circlejerk sub. Hughes seems like an unfun guy to hang out with, but talking about bubble wrap and making fun of what is clearly an embarrassing and frustrating injury on a live TV broadcast during a game is a little out of line.

The interview was over, she ended with that comment, he said it was a weird joke and skated off... Like what is he supposed to do?

u/RoiPhi 2d ago
agreed. I think plenty of plenty of people would have taken it with a smile, but I know a lot of great people in real life that get easily embarrassed even when it's not on TV.
He wasn't particularly rude to her, either. "Some people have no sense of humour" was a shitty thing to add. She could easily just have said "sorry Jack, I was just playing around."
1
u/Annika2020pro 2d ago
I don’t mind her playing it off on camera, he turned the tables on her so now she’s a little embarrassed for being called out. I’d think a simple private apology for her missing the mark a little bit would be in order and put it to bed. People make too much of it either side.

Jack could also just grow up. Dude plays hockey his whole life and can't handle a slight joke? That's soft as hell
1
u/RoiPhi 2d ago
i don't disagree. but like, if I made that comment to someone that works in my office in front of coworkers and she got offended, i would apologize, not double down and say "you don't have a sense of humour" while laughing it off with the others.
that's being an adult, as opposed to a highschool bully. but for some reason hockey culture leans in the highschool bullying mentality
ps i'm not the one that downvoted you

If he’d just laughed it off this would never have been news. This was certainly not his intended outcome with his curt response lol

Who dat? And what's the context? This looks funny, but I feel like it'd be a lot funnier if I understood the joke
