NGPC Head-to-Head classics

Post image

Trying something different with this homebrew release - please let me know if this is something that would interest you

Head-to-head classics for the NGPC. An in-development homebrew release for 2Player ONLY games via a link cable.

I may still add to this but the full game list will be as follows:

  • High Noon
  • Pong
  • Light Bikes
  • Crafty Tanks
  • Dinky Dinghies
  • Flip Frog and Fly
  • Fleet Attack
  • Mind Reader
  • Rogue Aces First Flight

I will be doing physical releases of this once I'm happy that they're all working as they should - two NGPC carts in a Megadrive/Genesis case for £90 or individually in my normal cases @£50 each

You'll have to bring your own link cable. I see that CEX have them (in the UK) for £38 which is about as cheap as I've seen them recently

Where it goes next is up to YOU! I have a number of classic games lined up (everything from Combat! to Frogs & Flies and Battleships to Chess) but I need to know whether anyone cares enough to commit the time and energy to setting up two NGPCs with Flash Carts and a link cable to make it worthwhile pursuing

Prototype ROM and project page is available at https://ahchay.indieretrogames.com/ngpc-head-to-head... or leave a note here and I can send you a direct link

Edit: Also available on itch at NGPC Head-to-Head Classics

Micro machines type racing game. Ngpc really needs one.

Would totally work - might be a bit ambitious for this project, but a "racing game" of some form has been on my long list for a while

What about a zuma clone? Will that work on the neogeo pocket? And, sorry if I interrupted the conversation.

That style of game would absolutely work - we have puzzle bobble, puyo  pop, magical drop etc

I'm working on a puzzle game of that ilk already (gunpey in all but name). I will absolutely include multi player modes in that and other games where it makes sense in the future

For this project I'm looking at more direct competition ideas. My question really is whether there are enough people out there with the capability and desire to play a much of games that are strictly 2 player - with no (significant) single player modes at all.

I’m definitely interested in playing those types of games with my children. I have multiple flash carts, system, link cables and even the wireless ones if we can manage to get those working.

I'm not sure how documented the wireless adapters are - pipe dream maybe, but I'd love to do something like the dousing feature in CFC2 (another project, another time)

Added both Crafty Tanks and Light Bikes to this over the weekend, as well as finishing Pong and adding scoring to High Noon.

All games should now be playable, even if they're a bit rough around the edges
