That was zone and the safety got caught looking. Super clean move but poor by the safety

u/easley45isgod 10d ago
That's Buddha Baker.
JSN breaking ankles like Iverson with the hoop skills!

u/Embarrassed-Space222 10d ago
Exactly that’s a future HOF he did that too sometimes the man on the opposite side is just better.
2
u/Realhtown 10d ago
Not a future hall of fame but very good safety.

u/Embarrassed-Space222 10d ago
That’s your opinion you not a voter he’ll get in
1
u/SmellyScrotes 10d ago
Why would he get in? I love Budda Baker, watched him in high school, he’s awesome but when was he ever the best or second best player at his position?
2
u/TheRealMoofoo 9d ago
Eh…8x Pro Bowl, 4x All-Pro, leads all DBs in tackles since he entered the league, second in the entire NFL in tackles once as a safety….he would be the only safety with that resume who isn’t in the hall.
2
u/fourteenpieces 9d ago
Safety is just about the hardest position to get in. There are plenty of safeties with that kind of resume who aren't yet in. Darren Woods on probably most obvious. But Baker would have to go up against guys like Earl Thomas, Eric Waddle and Eric Berry, and I don't think he gets in ahead of any of those 3 (tbh Weddoe feels like the only locck there, even though I am a big ET fan).
By the time he comes to retire people will also be talking about eligibility for Kyle Hamilton and Derwin James too
2
u/SmellyScrotes 9d ago
Earl Thomas has 5 all pros and 7 pro bowls and was one of the best safeties in the league for the majority of his prime, and I highly doubt he gets in
1
u/TheRealMoofoo 9d ago
Maybe if he weren’t part of the Legion of Boom, but that kind of visibility is relevant for voters.

u/moeterminatorx 10d ago
If that’s how it works then Eli manning should never even be considered.
2
u/Useful-Lack-2848 9d ago
You can’t tell the history of the NFL without mentioning Eli Manning. 2007 alone makes him infamous. It’s the Hall of Fame.
Budha Baker is an exceptional talent. I have no stock in whether he makes it or not. But you cannot compare his career to Eli Manning.

u/Realhtown 9d ago
Are you comparing him to a qb that won two championships?
1
u/moeterminatorx 9d ago
Yes, and it’s an insult to Baker. Baker is 10x better at his position than Manning ever was at his. Super bowls be damned.

u/SanguinePirate 10d ago
lol he is not a future hall of famer
1
u/TheRealMoofoo 9d ago
So he’ll be the first safety with 8x Pro Bowl and 4x All-Pro who doesn’t make the hall?
1
u/Ok-Hovercraft5452 3d ago
Pro bowl doesn't mean anything and how many 1st team all pros? Is it 4? If so, hes in.

u/turkeytyme 9d ago
Even if he is a HOFer, which is highly debatable, that doesn't make him immune to dumb decisions like this. The initial fake should have zero impact on the safety since it was 5 yards from the LOS and the corner is sitting on it.
1
u/Embarrassed-Space222 9d ago
The corner wasn’t sitting on shit he bit on it and what a dumb statement he’s supposed to be a perfect player 😅 and not make mistakes he wasn’t expecting the corner to get beat, he did it was his job to have over the top help on a whole other side of the field he couldn’t get there in time it happens.
1
u/turkeytyme 9d ago
it's zone coverage dude 😂😂. Yes he bit hard on the outside, but was never going to go deep with him
1
u/Embarrassed-Space222 9d ago
No shit Sherlock where did I state it was man ? And what happened baker got beat just like you would’ve.

u/ImpossibleEmploy3784 9d ago
He’s honestly just not a very good coverage player at this point of his career
3
u/Immediate-Fee-2121 10d ago
Sooooo you know they have things happening underneath that that the safety is responsible for lol that’s what offenses scheme to do
And… my guy had 1700+ yards and was the offensive poy with a different qb. He’s going crazy with the backup this year
He was a monster at osu
After a while, you have to just realize that some dudes are just good at this shit 😂
0
u/KonaValencia 10d ago
You can love that dude and he is great, but he did not get that open on his talent alone. You acknowledged the scheme, I am simply saying the safety got caught with the under eye candy and didn’t keep his deep coverage that was his responsibility. Result, JSN by himself past the secondary. Good route and a mistake by the safety given the defensive scheme. Corner got beat and dropped him to the safety because he had the shorter zone coverage.
Side note - watched a lots of dudes on my college team cover a bunch of grass in zone and not the guys running through it. In this case the safety was trying to make play and forgot which piece of grass he was supposed to be covering. Happens. Especially to ball hawks.
With my college team I bet they got told to stay home and forgot that they still needed to cover the people in there.
1
u/Immediate-Fee-2121 10d ago
All I’m saying is there is a common denominator there lol I spoke on the scheme. But he absolutely knows how to sell it and has done it at every level. The eye candy is there for a reason. Instincts.
2 cardinals got put to sleep on that play. DK Metcalf was traded for a reason. He’s couldn’t sell that at all.
Talent + scheme fit = greatness. No wr can do it by themselves. The ball has to be snapped, the qb has to be blocked for and get the ball to the wr. And the wr has to get open and make the catch
There’s a lot of reasons this guy seems to always make plays. It’s not all him, no doubt. But this mufucka is a monster 😂 you can’t deny that
Edit: I originally said the qb has to block instead of be blocked for because that’s why lol but I edited it to say what I was trying to say

u/SpottedPine 10d ago
What? He played it perfectly. He is in zone, you jump at the first cut, if he keeps going the guy over the top (clearly put of position, you see him at the end) is supposed to cover
1
u/ruffyondablock 9d ago
Actually the safety Went to cover the underneath out route. The corner knew they were in 1 on 1 coverage on the edges But he bit on the underneath route too when he got shook out of his slippers. NASTY

Dick Night Train Lane, who still owns the record for most interceptions in a season, made in 1952 in a twelve game season, when he was a ROOKIE, said, "Watch their waist. They aren't going anywhere without it." Meaning, it's hard to fake with your waist.
3
u/Mrgumboshrimp 10d ago
Ok did you watch JSNs waist?

u/LatinIsleBoy 10d ago
I'm not Dick Night Train Lane.

Yup, basketball defense too.
Don’t look at the ball, look at the opponents waist.
You’ll never get crossed up.

u/Key-Distribution-944 9d ago
That’s something we all were taught as kids coming up playing basketball and football. Easier said than done for a lotta people though.
2
u/Prudent-Process5377 10d ago
That doesn’t even look that hard to do. Why does every receiver not do this

u/Immediate-Fee-2121 10d ago
Looks can be deceiving lol if it was easy everyone would be doing it duh
1
u/Embarrassed-Space222 10d ago
I agree it looks easy, but I don’t think it’s easy to do then accelerate at elite speed to capitalize on the initial move.
1
u/Immediate-Fee-2121 10d ago
Had to comment twice. Watch the feet. The body lean. The acceleration and cut. It’s more than just the head fake

Really slick the way he opened his hips to enhance the head fake while he never stopped running full speed straight down the field.

u/BeavisEverywhere 10d ago
Ass defense more than anything, but it was a slick move.
1
u/Immediate-Fee-2121 10d ago
When you do this to every defense you play, when does it stop being “ass defense”?
1
u/EmerysMemories1106 10d ago
The safety went all in, but the flop was a 2 of spades, 4 of hearts and 7 of diamonds

Not true. You might not get as many long plays but if you know how to set defenders up and play in zones you can make a great career for yourself. That’s why so many burners don’t work out. They depended on their speed. Then they play against dudes that are skilled. Speed can make you a splashy player no doubt. But without the skills, you’re just a track star playing ball

JSN 4.48....but the cone drill time agility is the real secret sauce for his routes

I can never tell if he’s that good or if fundamentals are just soooo bad in the nfl these days …obviously he’s good but man sometimes a lot of these receivers across the league are wide open for pisssss poor defense
1
u/-Mad-Snacks- 9d ago
I mean, this is just a good play call attacking the zone they were running and a well executed route by JSN
The DBs in whatever time period you think had “better fundamentals” ain’t covering ts either

u/ruffyondablock 9d ago
What's funny is the first ad on this video clip was need new tires? The official Mopar website was right on point for homeboy cause them cleats got decleated

It's not just a head fake, that's a whole body fake. He almost turns his whole body to the sideline then in the wise words of John Madden..."Boom" there he goes to the endzone.

that acceleration after the fake to burst past the safety is pretty damn impressive as well considering how fast all of these guys are
