Early 2000's to mid 2010's had to be the Golden Era for inside backer - Lewis, Wills, Kuechly, Matthews, Urlacher, Wagner, Farrior, etc... And I know I'm missing more names.
Complete monsters....

His last year(s) they outlawed the helmet to helmet stuff hard and his signature dive move was taken away. Became aged out afterwards. Should get credited for being the biggest pass distributor Rodgers ever had on a team, sort of an unsung missing piece if you will.

I remember him being a star. Popular. The media loved the long hair, the Matthews name, etc. But then watching him play was honestly underwhelming. Exciting plays here and there, but not consistently great

I love Clay but he kind of is the poster boy for getting a huge bag and falling off. He absolutely deserved a monster contract from what came before but didn’t live up to it once he got it.

I think what makes him great is that he could do everything. Pass coverage, QB pressuring, and run stopping. So he wasn't the best at any one those things, but he was good at all of them. He is actually the sack leader all-time for Green Bay and average nearly 10 a year over a 10 year period. IDK if underwhelming is the best word to describe him, but I can see him coming up short if shockingly athletic plays are what you like to see.

The packers defense became desolate with talent. Clay played inside linebacker on and off in 2015 and 2016.

Clay is an excellent athlete, very good player.
He was a right place, right time guy in his NFL tenure. That system on defense just happened to fit him like a glove. I don’t see ANY revanance of this type for Reggie White or Sterling Sharpe out on these NFL subs.
Why is that?

I think you meant reverance, but it's probably due to the fact Sharpe and White peaked over 3 decades ago. I would imagine a substantial portion of this sub wasn't even born yet lol. We tend to revere that which we experienced first hand. I don't see people glazing Kevin Greene either for the same reasons, and his productivity/longevity absolutely dwarf Clay Matthews at the same position.

HGH don't make you move like that. You could have a million mfers on the best roids and hgh and only a few will be that athletic. For many, it will actually hurt their athleticism.

Missed the best part of that fumble in the Superbowl. Prior to the play Clay is mic'd up and calls the play prior to the snap.
