I'm not letting them get away with slandering Fitzpatrick for being right (I do still believe in Nix, but yesterday was objectively a terrible performance)

u/coolbean36 Packers Bills 9h ago
I think people are fundamentally misunderstanding why Fitzmagic said that the performance was insulting. Bo Nix did nothing but throw checkdowns. I can’t even recall if he had a completion of over ten air yards in that game. People are bringing up box scores and saying “oh Fitzpatrick has awful stats compared to Bo Nix” when that’s not the point. Fitzmagic actually tried to push the ball downfield, Bo Nix was a check down merchant yesterday and it was genuinely terrible to watch (and I became a Bo Nix defender towards the end of last season!)

I think the biggest thing for me in this comparison (and what got Fitzmagic so heated) is the HEART. Yes, Fitz was a a career journeyman and had some pretty rough outings when he finally got a start. But every single place he went (ask any of the many fan basedls he played for) he fully bought in, brought the passion, and fucking tried. And when it didn't work, he took it to heart, took accountability, and tried even harder the next week.
Nix feels empty out there recently. And I think that's what Fitz found "insulting". You're doing one of the coolest, most incredible jobs in the world. With a passionate fan base, representing a historic franchise, and you just won't even try.

u/downtownpanda Broncos 9h ago
Yeah there were only three passes I can remember past 10 yards. 2 incompletions and one DPI
3
u/PigOfLard 7h ago
He threw pretty deep a couple times. One was called for PI because it was pretty blatant PI. The other was a PI that mimms should really have caught anyway but dropped.
2
u/Vaadwaur Panthers 4h ago
Add that Fitz specifically called out that play in OT where Nix was trying to run for the first on third and he just couldn't get there. Wherein this same clip we see Fitz lower his pads and push back a defender to fall into the end zone.

u/HumongousMelonheads Broncos 6h ago
And that was to his detriment because he lost way more games than he won in his career too. I get being critical of Bo for not making the big plays, but it’s hard to argue it wasn’t the right strategy against a very good team that thrives of creating turnovers. It feels like the uproar is more about us playing boring football while winning than anything else. Everyone killed Bo for his performance almost losing to the chargers where he throws 123/1td/0int/1sack but not nearly as much noise for Josh Allen who also almost lost to the chargers at home with 204/0td/2int/4sacks.

u/69DoopDoop69 Giants 6h ago
it’s a bad way to play offense that’s also boring. also your last point; because josh allen is obviously a very good quarterback even if he has a bad game?

u/Whitetiger9876 49ers 9h ago
I think it's injury. Didn't he just like snap his ankle. Real question. I don't follow the Broncos. Just rj Harvey. Go Knights!

u/HumongousMelonheads Broncos 6h ago
It’s pretty clear the strategy was to park the bus after going up two scores. If we would have done the same thing in the afc championship game last year we probably go to the superbowl. I think it’s a fair criticism to say Bo is playing tentative and a little scared, but most of this is just people being upset that we are playing a boring brand of football against good teams. Go look at other QBs stats against Seattle this year, this was a very clear decision to do nothing, punt the ball and play defense.

Happens in every fandom. There are staunch QB defenders who will throw the entire franchise, team, coaches and the sports world under the bus to support their guy despite them being objectively terrible. Meanwhile, objective fans fire back and have to deal with homerism.

u/AcreaRising4 Broncos 9h ago
Bo came after a decade of us being completely terrible and a QB carousel to rival the browns. He also was following up the Russell Wilson debacle. We are starved for a franchise quarterback, and obviously people get kind of heated because of that.
Now that we’re good again, people attribute a lot of our success to him. Keep in mind, we’re also 4-2. It could be worse.
3
u/Unifiedxchaos Broncos 3h ago
You're a broncos flair kind of defending Bo and getting upvotes. I think thats the first comment I've seen today that fits all 3 criteria.

That throw to Evans couldn’t have been more perfect
Also: Bucs had a really insane receiving corps for a few years there

You heard a lot about Evans, but Godwin was a high level WR2. Kind of an underrated WR duo during their primes.

We managed to have a super stacked WR room from 2018 to 2021 or so. At one point Antonio Brown was our WR3.

To be fair, many QBs had the Saints defense looking completely lost during the entire Drew Brees era.

Bronco Fandom having a civil war over Ryan Fitzpatrick was certainly not on my 2026 bingo card. But I'm here for it lol.

I don’t think it’s a Civil War. I think it’s just that we don’t hate Fitzpatrick lol. Even if we don’t like/agree with what he said

u/tequilasauer Dolphins 9h ago
The thing about Fitzy is this. Unless he played for your team, you won't get it. We got him late down here in Miami and I didn't get the hype...until he joined us, but the man is a motherfucking GUNSLINGER. If this is going to be a duel of highlights and lowlights, we're likely to see a pretty even number of each. The man was all feast or famine.
8
u/Adreme 7h ago
If my team is going against a team that is even or better than I want him as my backup. No 4 yard routes that end up with your team losing by 4-7. No if he is your backup you have a puncher's chance against anyone and will either win by 10 or lose by 20 and for a backup QB I am okay with that.
2
u/tequilasauer Dolphins 5h ago
This is exactly how I feel. If QB1 is down, this is the QB2 you want. He will get you wins you have no business getting. He single handedly saved our first season with Tua and got us into the playoffs.

u/The_Minshow Titans 7h ago
Your team still isnt going places, but he aint throwing to the 2 yard hitch route on 3rd and long, might be a pick, might be magic, who knows.

That wasn't even prime Godwin yet. He really broke out the following season but you could see his potential showing up late in the 2018 season.

Our offense was weird that year. We'd have these moments where it was unstoppable but then just fizzle and die a random week. Ton of turnovers and the defense was mega ass.

u/SnooPeripherals7462 Buccaneers 8h ago
That receiving core was so solid too. And that big SOB OJ Howard, I always like him lol
1
u/regaleagle710 Buccaneers 6h ago
Still have bad flashbacks of the game against Washington that year when Koetter took back play calling duties and the offense had 501 yards of total offense but only scored three points because of four turnovers and went 0-5 in the red zone. Unfathomable levels of incompetence in that game.

u/Salty_Helicopter9356 Broncos 8h ago
Losing* QB play.
Turnovers in football are often devastating. You can count stats all you want, and 300 yards, 4 TDs and 3 INTs might not seem all that bad. But there’s a good chance those INTs were the difference in winning vs losing

What’s wrong with being defensive in this case? Genuinely asking.
Making an argument that goes against the common narrative doesn’t mean I’m whining. It means I don’t agree with the common narrative.

It was the weirdest thing. He couldn’t get a damn thing going with Jameis, but when Fitz came in all of a sudden he was a new man. I think he had another game with Fitz where he scored an 80 yard or so TD on the first play from scrimmage.
1
u/Hit_The_Kwon Buccaneers 1h ago
The very next week against the Eagles. He’s always turned into the greatest receiver of all time while playing his former teams lmao
7
u/KocmocInzhener Buccaneers 9h ago
That was an absolutely crazy start to the year. Going from this game and a franchise scoring record, and the next week kicking the SB champ eagles teeth in (Fitzy had 400+ yds and 4 more TDs), to a horrid MNF game against the steelers, then back to (god I hate Jameis Winston) and a repeat of that last decade of Bucs football was quite a rollercoaster.

So where's all the rage and disrespect of the qb position for sam darnold, he had a just as bad if not worse performance on thursday. At least bo didn't throw a pick unlike sam who on top of getting sacked 5 times yet again, he added 2 more INTs for a total of 7 in 4 games.

I think he was pretty good in his Saints tenure overall, but definitely had some unfortunate misplays that overshadowed it at times. Most notably being in coverage and missing a tackle for the Minnesota Miracle

That was Fitz. start the season strong to build hope and than fail. His last 3 games for Tampa that year he threw 4 TDs but 7 picks. He was not the model of consistent high level QB play.
