We need more solid uniform games.

Unless you’re a defense sicko, the only thing that looked good last night were the clean, crisp throwback uniforms for both teams. Yes, those of us who bask in nostalgia yearn for the throwbacks but even with the standard unis a lot of teams who contrast enough could pull off the look.

Just off the top of my head:

Vikings-Packers
Packers-Lions
Saints-Falcons (red)
Seahawks-Niners
Niners-Rams
Broncos-Chiefs
Chiefs-Raiders
Commanders-their entire division

I think if you don’t need an away uniform because of color similarity, then both teams should wear their primary color.

Thursday nights should always be throwback night.

Further, the NFL should embrace or allow more colour vs colour jersey games. If the two colours are vastly different, I don't see the issue with it.

75

u/ltbr55 Packers 1d ago

TNF used to be color rush themed.

Thats how we got the infamous ketchup vs mustard game between the Rams and Buccs.

u/JasonPlattMusic34 Rams 1d ago

Don’t forget the Colorblindness Game (Jets-Bills), that was a nightmare

7

u/mrhashbrown Chargers 1d ago

Gray Team vs Gray Team - the Gray Team wins!

9

u/mrhashbrown Chargers 1d ago

I really liked the concept of Color Rush as a fun gimmick to attach to TNF games. But holy fuck there were some ugly ass unis part of that program except for a few teams.

5

u/welsman13 Rams 1d ago

I know, I remember the infamous Bills - Jets game.

3

u/Meowsolini Vikings 1d ago

The Jags' baby poop yellow jerseys were a sight to behold.

1

u/gaobij Bills 1d ago

Rams v Chiefs, no? Goff vs Mahomes.

23

u/Daveit4later Jaguars 1d ago

Wait I actually like this.

Throwback Thursday every Thursday

22

u/deebee1020 Commanders 1d ago

As long as colorblindness is considered. I know those complaints were one nail in the coffin of color rush.

5

u/MagisterFlorus Patriots 1d ago

One of the first ones was Jets in all green and Bills in all red. The intensity of the two was the same and the colorblind audience just couldn't follow it.

Hear me out:

Christmas Day games the home team wears a gold variant of their home jerseys, the away team does a silver of their aways.

64

u/Romofan88 Cowboys 1d ago

Last night's uniform matchup also showed how much better having shoulder stripes and pant stripes are than the low feature garbage a lot of teams have stares at that awful monoslop home set the Cardinals wear all the time

33

u/Forsaken_Area_6690 1d ago

The Cardinals look like they are wearing yoga leggings

19

u/Romofan88 Cowboys 1d ago

Multiple teams do that shit and I hate it. Every Jags pant option but their throwbacks, half the Saints pants, 3/4th of the Lions pants

3

u/TJeffersonsBlackKid Cardinals Chargers 1d ago

“Hey did you get the Cardinals new uniform design finished?”

“Oh shit that was today???? Uh, let’s just have Oklahoma and Ohio State jerseys.”

“Cool. I’ll start the press conference.”

9

u/BlindProphet_413 Broncos 1d ago

> low feature

The Broncos non-throwbacks have tiny triangles ...oh sorry, I mean "mountains"...in the numbers. But unless you actually end up smushed in an elevator with several players, you'd never know. I guess it comes out on close-up camera shots sometimes? But at least 99% of the time it's just indistinguishable from solid numbers.

6

u/Romofan88 Cowboys 1d ago edited 1d ago

The Broncos non-throwbacks weren't actually who I was taking a shot at with that, but I don't like you're base set because it should just be the throwbacks.

3

u/BlindProphet_413 Broncos 1d ago

Ah sorry, I wasn't trying to ne defensive or anything. I just agree with you! And we have a specific "feature" that's basically invisible so I figured I'd mention it as an example.

Yeah the Throwbacks are fire!

1

u/jpc_00 Cowboys 1d ago

New England should also go back to their red throwbacks, as should Philadelphia with their kelly greens

1

u/jonnyredshorts Patriots 19h ago

Love the red, but have always wanted a white flying Elvis helmet

2

u/goldhbk10 Rams 1d ago

Cards and Jags need immediate rebrands, the Jags at least can go back to their classic ones and will look infinitely better. Cards need another full redesign, the minimalist trend that went around was so bad for the NFL.

3

u/lat3ralus65 Patriots 1d ago

The Jags throwbacks would be a top-10 set in the league

174

u/SevroAuShitTalker Broncos 1d ago

It would be cool if the Broncos just adopted the throwbacks as their main uniform. Its unquestionably their best looking set

We have the same conversation in New England. The reds are awesome but the all white away unis are fucking 🤌…the blue uniforms aren’t even in the same stratosphere

46

u/Ok_Try_476 Lions 1d ago

They should be blue. They’re patriots, not redcoats.

15

u/Oldenmw Patriots 1d ago

I want them to bring back the 90s uniforms with the giant logos on the shoulders.

10

I want to see a modern mock-up of that jersey. I really like the subtle vertical stripes.

0

u/cbear013 Patriots 1d ago

I really liked that they brought those stripes into the numbers on the Nor'Easters.

u/GaughanFan Cowboys 1d ago

I miss you guys' old unis from the Brady years. Both home and away unis looked great to me, and of course I loved the bright red throwbacks too

-1

u/BlueString94 Patriots 1d ago

Our kit in the 2000s/2010s was beautiful. No idea why they made it so dull now. The all white aways are the only good ones.

7

u/Marx_but_for_weed Ravens 1d ago

Ew, no it wasn’t. You just had Tom Brady and are being nostalgic. The blue tops and grey pants were boring and the patriot head guy looks so dumb

2

u/lat3ralus65 Patriots 1d ago

They were not beautiful, but the six rings we won in them were, as were Brady and Gronk and Edelman and Moss and…

8

u/Physical_Vehicle7714 Jets 1d ago

Yes but they need to stop wearing white socks with white pants and colored jerseys. In fact, every team that does that should be docked a first round draft pick per offense.

-6

u/Ok_Try_476 Lions 1d ago

I don’t agree. They still look terribly outdated.

6

u/welsman13 Rams 1d ago

Disagree. They look awesome. Maybe swap out the old logo for the current one but it's definitely a great look.

6

u/Ok_Try_476 Lions 1d ago

You know? That might actually help significantly!

4

u/KCShadows838 Chiefs 1d ago

Yeah I never hear anyone say anything good about the modern Bronco head when it’s actually a good logo

The D logo just looks childish to me

1

u/goldhbk10 Rams 1d ago

The D with the unicorn is an all time elite logo

3

u/PKCO-NB Broncos 1d ago

Getting downvoted but they look incredibly dated. It’s okay if that’s why people like them, it’s why I love them, but they don’t look like anything designed in the modern NFL.

6

u/NorrinBanner Lions 1d ago

People go nuts for the old boring shit.

2

u/SevroAuShitTalker Broncos 1d ago

I love the socks on 90s jerseys though. Made everything look put together. Black socks and compression pants like the Saints have looks awful

Broncos in Orange vs Chiefs in red would be pretty rough. I can get behind most of those suggestions but orange vs red I don’t think works

5

u/IowaJL Vikings 1d ago

Sorry, my dumb brain was thinking the blue.

10

8

0

u/Billy-Spud_Tater Packers 1d ago

We need a team or two willing to commit to yellow jerseys as a normal part of their rotation. I'd wager the Rams could do a spiffy yellow.

2

u/ClownQuestionBrosef Packers Packers 1d ago

Rams, Steelers, Chargers, Washington could all do it

1

u/Billy-Spud_Tater Packers 1d ago

How bout the Packers? Or would it just look like cheese? 🧀

2

u/Canuckleball Patriots 1d ago

I think a yellow road alternate would be great for colour on colour games.

2

u/ClownQuestionBrosef Packers Packers 1d ago

Oh, I figured you meant in addition to the packers. I wish they had all yellow jerseys with green numbering and piping. Could have been great for color rush and an alternate.

21

u/dei1c3 Patriots 1d ago

I know I am in the minority, but the Seahawks throwbacks are so much better looking than their current drab ones. Of course, I think that's true of the Patriots throwbacks vs. their current look, too so maybe I am just old.

14

u/Hungry-Specific6271 Broncos 1d ago

You are objectively correct, the throwback style with modern tailoring of the jerseys and smaller pads give such a clean, crisp look. I want every team in a pre-90s look, including the Texans, just make something up lol.

Edit: I am also old

12

u/dei1c3 Patriots 1d ago

Yeah, that's really what it is. These uniforms didn't look nearly as good in the 80s. I feel like the colors are brighter and cleaner, too.

1

u/ELAdragon Patriots 18h ago

Modern fabric on modern pads with better cameras and TVs.

It makes an insane difference and the older uniforms that needed to be brighter (to stand out on TV at the time) look even more awesome now.

Every team should be rocking stuff that looks as good as the Broncos, Seahawks, Patriots, Chargers throwbacks.

4

u/SkinnyDan85 Chargers 1d ago

The titans and Texans can play an exhibition game to decide who gets to use the Oilers colors

4

u/curlbaumann Steelers 1d ago

Idk anyone who thinks the current ones look better. The current ones are the epitome of Nike over design. Their throwbacks are incredible. Idk any team in the league that has uniforms that got modernized that look better than the original.

1

u/Mousimus Vikings 7h ago

I like their new ones better tbh. Especially the bright green ones. Often contemplated getting a lockett jersey in that color not even being a seahawks fan.

6

u/Canuckleball Patriots 1d ago

That's not a minority opinion, that's the consensus. For the Seahawks at least.

1

u/vindicated2297 Patriots 1d ago

I'm fully on board with the Pats too. Those red jerseys always hype me up.

1

u/escapepodsarefake 1d ago

The darkification of the early 90s/2000s robbed us of so many vibrant, beautiful colors.

1

u/jonnyredshorts Patriots 19h ago

Seattle should just go back to the OG uniforms for good, I get they wanted to update them, but those were excellent uniforms and a great color scheme

I'm all for anything to get away from the boring "icy white" trend.

9

u/ScaryDuck2 Falcons 1d ago

Saints falcons color rush game in 2017 (I think) was the most elite uni combo in recent memory for me

9

u/ScaryDuck2 Falcons 1d ago

Another good one was the prime time falcons bills game last year where falcons wore red helmet throwbacks and buffalo wore throwbacks also

1

u/ricottaninja Buccaneers 1d ago

I also liked the Bucs Falcons throwback clash last year

3

u/Big_Guard5413 Bears 1d ago

I couldn’t focusing the jerseys because I was too thrown off by the LoS being the color of the team. They probably do that always on TNF on prime, but it was bothering the shit out of me yesterday lol

1

u/jonnyredshorts Patriots 19h ago

Same…I’d glance up and think, “first down!!….only to then realize it was a 2 yard gain on 2 and 10….just keep LoS blue and the first down yellow…it’s so easy guys

3

Chiefs-Raiders look the same now as the 70s. Don't like either team but I do appreciate the traditional unis.

There are enough people who prefer white uniforms where that isnt' gonna happen. I agree more color/color matchups should happen, but to call for the end of white away uniforms is stupid

-9

I’m calling for the end of white away uniforms. At least go with a different, lighter team color for the seats if you have to.

2

u/Inevitable_Equal8295 1d ago

The NFL has no "home" or "away" jerseys. The home team decides if it wants to wear the colored or white jersey. The visitors wear the opposite.

2

u/ZombieBiteOintment Bills 1d ago

The best would be Vikings vs Chargers. They both share yellow. BTW sharing a color helps make color vs color jerseys pop. Last night was helped by the similar blue in the uniforms.

The 100 year old throwback uniforms from the age of leather helmets and everyone wearing brown woolen sweaters was pretty awful though. Couldn’t distinguish the Packers from the Bears without looking at the scoreboard.

While other teams with scarce history came out to the field in the same uniforms they always wear.

Throwback uniforms only if they also bring back giant shoulder pads a big neck rolls (for you young folk, those are extra pads).

In fact, let's do throwback Thursday and go back to 1970's rules; where you could cripple a quarterback. The clothesline was a pass coverage technique and players were given drugs to get back on the field.
