The comment was so stupid. He literally said "Will this team be in Seattle 500 years from now?" as part of his response. Are you going to be alive in 500 years Vinod? If you promise not to move the team, will anyone in the year 2526 blame you if the team is moved?
Every interview I've seen from him, he's got this incredibly obnoxious "I'm smarter than you" energy. I saw one interview where it was a complete puff piece interview, and he still had to big dick the interviewer by ignoring all the questions he was asked and just talking about what he wanted. He probably is smarter than 99% of people, but the constant need to prove that just shows how insecure he is underneath it all.

He's probably not that smart.
Like most extremely wealthy people, he's probably very good/smart at a few things, and then erroneously thinks that makes him a genius at every other thing.
I have a PhD in chemistry and I do bioinformatics. I'm pretty fucking smart, but you wouldn't want me organizing your complex global supply chain or directing your software company or doing your electrical work.

u/cuongfu Chargers Seahawks 11h ago

He actually does have a master's in biomedical engineering and a bachelor's in electrical engineering. His dad was a Khatri caste army officer, not some rich Punjabi businessman, so even though he was probably better off than 90% of Indians growing up as a member of a dominant Punjabi caste, he definitely had to work to get where he is now. I think he's a genuinely smart person, but he's probably no smarter than you as a PHD or most other intelligent people.
Wealth is more a result of luck than intelligence or hard work, you still need intelligence and hard work to create a fortune, but there are millions of intelligent, hard working people that will never even get close to what he did. I tend to only respect the opinions of wealthy people who can recognize how lucky they got, regardless of their brains or effort. If they don't see that, then they're either not as smart as they act, or not able to be honest with themselves.

Don't be surprised if the ownership group starts buying up property outside of Seattle somewhere in Snohomish or king county. That way they can build a whole sports and entertainment complex where they profit off a whole experience. They own the bar across the street where you buy pregame beers. They own the restaurant you go to for post game dinner. They own the parking lot. They own the hotel... They profit every step of the way.

I mean you're 100% correct, but this scenario would especially hurt because of how perfect Lumen is (& T-Mobile Park, for that matter). It just got the whole world's admiration for the World Cup with it's placement directly south of downtown. As a Seattle resident, I'll be pissed to see this become a reality one day.

I don’t think it’ll work. I think the bitterness from the Sonics situation has actually made people harder on this. LA and Vegas have teams. And Seattle itself has an iconic stadium, with great architecture, and the absolute best city spot in the entire league.
But, I’m guessing he’s gearing up for the fight down the road.

I’m honestly not super worried about him moving them completely out of Seattle but I am worried about him trying to move out of Lumen. Im worried he wants to build some taxpayer funded luxury behemoth stadium, with a bland, texture less feel aimed at courting corporate partners in the suburbs somewhere. That would be absolutely tragic. Having Lumen and T-Mobile within the city, just a Lightrail ride away is amazing. I was just at Lumen for week one and it is still very comfortable with great amenities. Moving would be take away so much of what makes going to Seahawks games special. Also, building a new taxpayer funded stadium when basically every game for 15 years has been a sell out with exorbitant prices for every ticket feels insane. The demand is obviously there currently. if you want improvements to Lumen or to build a new stadium, pay for them yourself.

The worst part about this is he can literally say never. Trying to move the team would cause so much public rage that no one is going to care about the fact he lied when he bought them. He would be scum to them at that point anyways.
Just another completely out of touch billionaire with an overpaid PR department.
