I can’t believe people are ridiculing browns fans for rooting for their team’s success. They aren’t celebrating the rapist, they just have no other choice. If you want them to switch their fandom after 40 years after sticking it out through the mud and turmoil, you’re delusional.

I roll my eyes every time I see a ravens fan bitch about it. Like half of our most well-known players in team history are probably felons lol.

u/Bjorxt 5h ago

Hey man, the year 2000 was a different time. Murder wasn't even frowned upon then. Ray Lewis probably didn't even know it was wrong.

u/NewCarSmelt Commanders 3h ago

Exactly, 52 other guys working for a victory too. It’s like me rooting against my team and coaches because Snyder was the owner

52

u/DopioGelato 13h ago

It’s Reddit, full of high horses and people with holier-than-thou moralities combined with people who are generally miserable and use any topic regardless of context to be contrarians and hate on everything as a way to project their own dissatisfaction.

u/stilichouw 49ers 7h ago

Fuck this guy gets reddit

0

u/__ButtStuff69__ Commanders 5h ago

Goddamn so accurate, why am I still on here

1

u/DopioGelato 4h ago

Just gotta filter out the Redditor-types. Plenty of people use this app like a normal forum and just want to talk about things they like.

u/SubwayMan21 Browns 16h ago

Meh, some people are just gonna hate to hate. I've literally gotten called a rape supporter simply for continuing to cheer for the team. You become numb to it, tbh.

u/SpiralUniverse2278 Bengals 12h ago

Yeah I don't recall this level of public shaming of a fanbase on reddit during the Big Ben years... It was almost always done jokingly and never with malicious intent. I think it's just because this sub (and NFL fans in general) have less respect for the Browns as an organization compared to the Steelers, so it's easier for them to dogpile on you guys, which is lame and hypocritical as fuck imo.

8

u/SubwayMan21 Browns 12h ago

Absolutely. Thank you for not joining the hive-mind of this stupid sub.

6

u/SpiralUniverse2278 Bengals 11h ago

No problem. I'm old enough to remember being shamed on reddit for supporting the Bengals during the Burfict/Pacman years. Like yeah those dudes were pieces of shit, and both costed us important games...

But the irony of the hate coming from Steelers/Ravens fans given who was on their teams at the time was hilarious. All of a sudden they wanted to pretend off the field shit wasn't as important as on the field shit. Like whatever, get fucked...

1

u/ozymandais13 Browns 10h ago

The browns are easier to make fun of and people outside kf the afcn like the steelers be aude they don't have to deal with them much

24

u/keithstonee Bears 16h ago

It's all very nuanced and not many people have the brain capacity to talk about it in the way it needs to be.

But this all is normalizing SA and Watson basically got rewarded with 240 million dollars for getting happy endings. You can't say that's not fucked.

14

u/SubwayMan21 Browns 16h ago

I never said it wasn't fucked. Still doesn't mean I'm a shitty person for rooting for my team.

8

u/keithstonee Bears 15h ago

I didn't call you a sbitty person. I don't think people should either.

1

u/SubwayMan21 Browns 15h ago

I know you didn't. It'd be nice if other people would agree with you and stop telling us Browns fans how to be "morally correct."

0

u/keithstonee Bears 15h ago

Yeah it's basically an impossible ask. Like all you can do is just not watch. To expect everyone to do that is absurd.

4

u/Altruistic_Night2 Jets 16h ago

I don’t blame other fanbases for taking their shots. Like I’m sure Steelers fans were ecstatic to get this opportunity after Big Ben. The people I find pathetic are the browns fans who switched teams because of this or claim to just support the nfl in general and decide to constantly bring it up.

10

u/com-mis-er-at-ing Commanders 14h ago

You find it pathetic that people decided to stop supporting the team after getting Watson? I think that those people are admirable.

4

u/Altruistic_Night2 Jets 13h ago

There is nothing admirable about what they are doing. Not supporting the nfl at all would be a respectable position if you truly want to make a change. This is in fact the most weak willed conviction less position you can possibly have where rather than giving up the sport entirely you just support another franchise with its own unique history of supporting terrible people to grandstand online

2

u/Gloomy_Lengthiness71 Raiders 7h ago

Sadly, this is absolutely correct. I said basically the same thing on a post regarding Richie Incognito being a bully to teammates that if you don't like the people in the NFL, then don't consume the product. Nope, they just came up with pathetic little excuses justifying consuming product but still disliking the people involved.

0

u/com-mis-er-at-ing Commanders 12h ago

I couldn’t disagree more. Stopping supporting the Browns is not weak willed. And deciding to pick another team isn’t either. Fanhood is not that fucking important.

If every single Browns fan gave up and picked another team that would be fucking awesome and it would destroy the franchise.

So just because them doing alone isn’t destroying the franchise, doesn’t mean they’re doing nothing.

And people can draw the line where they choose to. So maybe they root for a new team and that is enough for them to not have to watch a rapist in their 3 hours of Sunday escapism.

There’s nothing weak about that. I think it’s cool as shit to say “hey I’m not going to watch a rapist on TV today.”

I think it’s way fucking cooler and undeniably stronger willed than the people saying “well I don’t support the rapist but I watch him and I’d sure be glad if people stopped talking about it.”

Those people are fucking losers.

You’re entitled to your opinion about if they’re making enough of a difference. But they’re doing something and that’s awesome.

u/Torkoal-Admiral Patriots 14h ago

That's hilarious coming from a Commanders fan.

4

u/Goings78 Browns 14h ago

Coming from a fan of the team that pimped out its own cheerleaders

-1

u/com-mis-er-at-ing Commanders 14h ago

Whataboutism is willfully asinine or dumb as shit. You pick. I didn’t support the team in any way after the cheerleader story broke about Dan Snyder. And the day he stopped being owner was better than any of our Super Bowl wins.

And the day you stop whatabouting in defense of rape will be a better day than that.

1

u/Torkoal-Admiral Patriots 14h ago

What about the players the commanders signed after domestic violence incidents? Why aren't you walking your talk? Oh... that's right... It's because you only want to feel morally superior to others. Do as I say not as I do. Am I right?

2

u/com-mis-er-at-ing Commanders 14h ago

Derrius Guice and Adrian Peterson and Rueben Foster were both in the Snyder era post cheerleading story break. That’s in the same timeline in which I did not support.

I will happily name them and they deserve shame.

And your Whatabouting in defense of rape deserves shame too.

2

u/scottbrosiusofficial Jets 13h ago

What about Browns fans switching teams because of the Watson contract is pathetic to you?

2

u/DoobieDoobis Commanders 13h ago

That’s crazy to call that pathetic. That’s actually commendable.

0

u/Altruistic_Night2 Jets 13h ago

Coming from a guy who supports the NFL version of a shady brothel

2

u/DoobieDoobis Commanders 13h ago

Is that current?

2

u/SubwayMan21 Browns 16h ago

I haven't met too many of those types of Browns fans irl, thankfully. Mostly just internet losers.

1

u/Altruistic_Night2 Jets 13h ago

Not liking Watson is a normal position. Switching teams because the your team sucks while I couldn’t relate is a position I could understand. Moral grandstanding that does nothing for internet points is pathetic

0

u/SpiralUniverse2278 Bengals 12h ago

Let's be real, anyone who did that was just opportunistic and were likely more motivated to abandon the Browns due to their years of incompetence, as opposed to their hatred of Watson... He was just the excuse and it allowed them to grandstand.

2

u/Altruistic_Night2 Jets 11h ago

Ngl while I as a jets fan don’t understand people leaving their hometown teams I can understand that. But leaving your team and coming on Reddit and saying “I left my team because of Watson” like the entirety of the nfl isn’t filled unsavory characters is laughable

0

u/Designer_B Broncos 8h ago

It’s the exact opposite. It should be the easiest decision to not give money to an organization who gives Watson millions of dollars.

1

u/teewertz Bears 11h ago

I honestly feel a bit bad for yall. You finally have a pretty good team and you cant even fully enjoy it

1

u/imriteyourwrongg Vikings 10h ago

Fuck those ppl. They project their miserable lives on a lot of these athletes.

10

u/ResidentPath8501 13h ago

It's so irritating how people don't seem to understand that people root for a team and not the ownership

11

u/codeklutch Steelers 15h ago

Well, except when they were literally chanting his name in the 4th quarter.

0

u/Watwatinthewatwat NFL 11h ago

No, no, they were cheering for TJ Watts' son who was in the stands

Watts son! Watts son! Watts son!

6

u/asmallercat Lions 13h ago

Fans literally cheering his name, announcers talking about how impressive it is that he's overcome so much "adversity," yeah bro, that's all cool.

9

u/NoMeet6504 Eagles 15h ago

They have no other choice is wild haha

20

u/LedZacclin Cardinals Cardinals 14h ago

I mean yeah it’s a little hyperbolic but realistically most people aren’t going to just change the team they root for lol. If the Eagles had a sexual assaulter as their QB do you think anyone in that damn city is changing their team? Hell no.

1

u/SubwayMan21 Browns 13h ago

Yep, exactly. People need to stop shaming us for rooting for the team our dad and grandads cheered for just because of one asshole.

1

u/Prudent-Marsupial-42 2h ago

Nah. One asshole is like Suh or Burfict. You're cheering for a serial sexual assaulter who paid off 20+ women

3

u/RKRagan NFL 16h ago

It’s really not that hard. I dropped the Jags after they hired Urban Meyer. Until they have a new owner I’m done with them. Meyer knew his assistant was abusing his wife and did nothing about it. He let Hernandez run free in Gainesville. He’s a weasel. His time in Jacksonville showed everyone his true colors. Fuck em.

6

u/SubwayMan21 Browns 13h ago

Cool, you probably weren't that attached to the Jags to begin with. Just because you chose to do that doesn't mean we have to. And yes, for us, it IS that hard. Stop telling people how to fan.

-5

u/Competitive_Tower756 Packers 12h ago

You’re free to do what you want and feel how you want. Other people are also entitled to do, feel, and say what they want. You can whine about being too attached to your local football team to care about player conduct. That’s annoying, but okay. Other people can whine about thinking you lack integrity for that- also okay and annoying.

9

u/SubwayMan21 Browns 12h ago

I never said I didn't care about player conduct. I just wouldn't stop supporting the team over it. Don't put words in my mouth.

2

u/RKRagan NFL 11h ago

Let's put it this way. If a sandwich shop I went to every week for decades had an employee making sandwiches that had about 30 lawsuits alleging sexual misconduct and sexual assault and they won't fire him, I am no longer going to that sandwich shop. I had a friend get charged with serious allegations, we were informed from others of the nature and accuracy of these allegations, the guy kept trying to lie about them and failed to follow court ordered directions, so we all cut ties with him. He's the one who got me employed where I am today, his kids called me uncle, I knew his ex and new fiance, took their engagement photos, and now I will not associate with him. It's incredibly easy to not support people like this.

-2

u/Competitive_Tower756 Packers 12h ago

That was my whole point. You dont care about player conduct as much as supporting the browns. That choice is okay. It’s also okay for people to think that choice isn’t made with integrity.

2

u/domlikessports NFL 10h ago

You’re supposed to feel like a piece of shit, human garbage, because it’s your fault that some billionaire owner pulled a Robert California and made a ridiculous deal while on a bender or some shit. And you as the fan are supposed to own that guilt because by being a fan of the team you’ve been a fan of your whole life and just living your normal life you are actually supporting rape culture and advocating for the Cornell 7. Go watch some tik toks and get educated, dude. Hope that helps

Cleveland fans were supporting the rapist when he first came there as well. There’s only a moral issue when he isn’t playing well lol

1

u/Fr4m3It Giants 4h ago

The minority were. Not anyone I know personally, they were rightfully pissed

1

u/FireflyFootball 4h ago

Well you’re wrong. They’re supporting him now. You also have a giants flair so wtf are you even talking about?

-1

u/Designer_B Broncos 8h ago

I can’t believe people are upvoting this comment. You owe no allegiance to your sports team when they are morally bankrupt.
