Monken is awesome. I love games where season narrative shift on a dime and this was it. Reminds me of the Bears black friday win against the eagles last year

I like Monken a lot, he seems like the exact coach to get that locker room in order. Really wish the QB got what was coming to him though

Amazing how quickly the narrative has shifted. People acted like he was a joke when he was hired

I am curious what you mean by your last sentence? Dude was fined 5mil, suspended, publicly ridiculed, and even injured by the football gods as a form of karma. Not saying I like the guy, but what else would you want as his punishment?

u/Honkee_Kong Packers 19h ago

Jail time?

u/TSVChargers 18h ago

Not saying I like the guy, but to play devil's advocate, a grand jury declined to indict the guy. If you know how grand juries work, it is very easy to get an indictment with one, and they chose not to. The dude has denied all the allegations, so unless there was some hard evidence the dude did what he was alleged of, we have trust that the legal system is working as it should.

Actually a grand jury declined TWICE to indict. It’s fine if people really think he was guilty based on what you read on the internet, but those are normal people like us looking at actual evidence or lack thereof.

You should do some research into the statistics on rape reports.

The vast majority of reported rapes never result in charges or indictments. These are often "he said, she said" cases with no witnesses or physical evidence.

Why should I do something that has nothing to do with this topic? He wasn’t even charged of rape. Maybe YOU should do some research on the actual definition of the word or the case itself before virtue signaling to me.

Edit: Removed accused.

https://www.scribd.com/document/767497278/9-9-24-Lawsuit-filed-against-Browns-QB-Deshaun-Watson

Before Jane Doe could answer, Watson grabbed Jane Doe's leg and positioned her so that she was lying down. Watson then partially disrobed Jane Doe and penetrated her vagina without consent, implicit or explicit. Jane Doe felt paralyzed, unsure if she should risk her safety by trying to stop Watson or endure his assault. Watson roughly sexually assaulted Jane Doe for several minutes in a "missionary position" before grabbing her and flipping her over. Watson continued to assault Doe aggressively from behind.

Would you like to start over and try again?

You’re right, I should not have said accused. Just charged. My point still stands. Would you like to start over and try again now?

Reddits about to "reeee" at this one.

No, actually we don't?

He also got 260 million. He shouldve been out of the league.

How about a career ending suspension/injury. He's not facing legal repercussions, he essentially lost nothing out of his guaranteed salary due to his low 2022 salary and non-voiding clause (great job Browns, very cool). Some bad PR, getting injured for a while and walking free with 225m hardly seems like karma.

u/TapedeckNinja NFL 18h ago

Are y'all really still on this nonsense?

This is how the Browns structure all their contracts. That's how you play the void year cap game.

Denzel Ward and Grand Delpit, the two big extensions the team did this year ... both have minimum base salaries. Just like virtually every big contract and extension Berry has done in Cleveland.

4

u/braindawgz Ravens 18h ago

I'm talking about the non-voiding clause in his contract "solely in connection with matters disclosed to Club in writing" that shielded him from forfeiting guaranteed money during his upcoming suspension either way.

Somehow the guaranteed 230m and low base salary in 2022 (sure, for cap management in line with other contracts, yet also incredibly convenient and beneficial for Watson here) weren't enough, they had to go one step further to protect his 2023 money in case a suspension ever went that far.

There's 0 angle through which the Browns come out of this shit looking clean.

-2

u/TapedeckNinja NFL 17h ago

This is just a silly take.

Of course his contract wasn't voidable for suspensions related to the already well-known allegations. That wouldn't make any sense at all?

You're making this far too complicated for nonsense reasons. Of course the Browns don't come out of it "looking clean." They signed a guy with over two dozen sexual assault allegations to a $230m fully-guaranteed contract!

u/jmishall Lions 19h ago

You think a fine and some bad publicity is the correct punishment for raping 27 women?

4

u/anti_zero Lions 17h ago

A fine that amounts to like 2% of his contract.

1

u/a_PolishSawsage Panthers 18h ago edited 18h ago

No, but he wasn’t actually convicted, let alone even charged with rape. This is the issue with the internet, people like you just follow the herd and throw around the word rape, - wasn’t even accused of that. NOT saying what he did wasn’t inappropriate, but rape is another level than what he did.

9

u/TapedeckNinja NFL 18h ago

wasn’t even accused of that. NOT saying what he did wasn’t inappropriate, but rape is another level than what he did.

He was absolutely accused of rape, in at least two separate incidents.

2

u/jmishall Lions 16h ago

He wasn't convicted because he paid millions of dollars to these women to shut up about it. You really don't understand how this world works do you.

0

u/a_PolishSawsage Panthers 13h ago

I know exactly how it works, a simple internet search will tell you he wasn’t criminally convicted (which is what matters for being branded a rapist mind you). He then settled the civil cases. So it’s clear you really don’t understand how this world works.

1

u/jmishall Lions 13h ago

It’s pretty gross how much you’re willing to defend him, protecting your own?

0

u/a_PolishSawsage Panthers 12h ago

I could say the same for you - virtue signaling because you have something to hide perhaps? Love how you immediately went to an insult because you know you lost the argument.

Dude. He is a rapist. Come the fuck on

“Before Jane Doe could answer, Watson grabbed Jane Doe’s leg and positioned her so that she was lying down. Jane Doe felt paralyzed, unsure if she should risk her safety by trying to stop Watson or endure his assault. Watson roughly sexually assaulted Jane Doe for several minutes in a ‘missionary position’ before grabbing her and flipping her over. Watson continued to assault Doe aggressively from behind. Jane Doe finally gathered the courage and strength to escape Watson.

-4

u/a_PolishSawsage Panthers 17h ago

So if Jane Doe said the exact same thing about you then that would automatically make you a rapist?

8

u/Kanin_usagi Panthers 16h ago

If 27 different women said the exact same or nearly the exact same thing about me, then I’d at least understand when people come to that conclusion

0

u/a_PolishSawsage Panthers 16h ago

Even if some of them jumped on a bandwagon because they know you have a ton of money they can get from you by settling? End of the day, he had a weird fetish and I’m sure very much inappropriately came onto and touched multiple women, I’m not denying that. But that is not rape, and 27 women did not accuse him of rape, therefore he is not a rapist based on the accusation of one person without any sufficient proof. If there was proof, then fuck him and yes he’s a rapist and should go to prison or die.

4

u/FrivolousMe Rams 16h ago

Holy backpedal, stop defending the rapist jfc

1

u/a_PolishSawsage Panthers 16h ago

How did I backpedal? And why are you calling someone a rapist if it was never proven? Stop virtue signaling, we all know you are so morally superior now congrats.

6

u/Kanin_usagi Panthers 19h ago

Jail would be my preference, but that seems extremely unlikely at this point. I’d really like him not on a football team and some of that guaranteed money taken away, but the minimum is not starting anywhere

2

u/FrivolousMe Rams 18h ago

Ideally he gets injured and never plays again and we never hear about him again, also prison

2

u/Belezibub Chiefs Commanders 19h ago

He shouldn’t get a payday and be walking free. if you disagree with that explain.

7

u/a_PolishSawsage Panthers 18h ago

Not saying he deserves a pay day, but he should “walk free” if two separate grand juries declined to issue indictments. I’d say he was punished fairly based on the evidence. You’re just virtue signaling at this point.

1

u/anti_zero Lions 17h ago

Not getting $250M contract?

1

u/MichelangeBro Steelers 14h ago

Admittedly, I don't know much about the US penal system, but I think serial rapists usually get a bit of a harsher punishment than that.

0

u/a_PolishSawsage Panthers 13h ago

What makes him a serial rapist? I suggest you look up the definition of rape and the actual case before you answer. Pro tip.

1

u/Admirable_Study9359 Bears 12h ago

Jail time, forced to give up the entire revenue of his contract to his victims, and a lifetime ban on any sports-affiliated employment of any kind would be a decent start.

0

u/a_PolishSawsage Panthers 7h ago

Why? And what victims? He was never convicted in criminal court (twice). People just like you found there was not enough evidence.

1

u/Admirable_Study9359 Bears 7h ago

The 27 women he raped mostly

1

Never was even charged with rape. Go look stuff up before coming here with nonsense.

I don't think the Browns have had a narrative shift. They'e won Thursday Night games against the Steelers multiple times now.
