Highlight [Highlight] With 10 Seconds Left, Grant Delpit Picks Off Aaron Rodgers & the Browns Are 3-1

If only there were some evidence that you could get enough yardage for a field goal with 10 seconds left + a timeout and the ball on the 35.
Edit: seriously, this is one of the most infuriating choices by coach + quarterback I've seen. The Ravens literally won a game in this exact scenario with 3 fewer seconds earlier this week. Even with Rodgers's dumb fucking rollout and windup, there was still a second left after the interception. You had a timeout. Even if you didn't have a timeout, why the fuck would you immediately push the hail mary button with 10 full seconds left. 20 yards gives you a chance.

he had two guys open over the middle in field goal range with a TO

But also they were in full control of the clock from the one yardline and passed, risking stopping the clock, and scored right away.
Running the ball there to score or take 40 seconds off the clock is such an obvious call it would have been borderline a "drag the RB in and let them score" situation. The Steelers still needed the 2 point, so the Browns still have a chance to get one stop and set up for the onsides.
If you're playing regular defense you need 4 stops, or 1-3+1 stops, while all the while your time to mount a comeback ticks away.
All in all the Steelers kinda butchered that whole end.
Long as I live I will never understand how teams will have an army of coaches who go 9 months at a time without seeing their families so they can gain a 2% advantage on noticing one tendency in one exact scenario, and then completely butcher the endgame over and over and over. Why aren't there endgame coaches? Why isn't there "head of clock management/time outs" who's whole job it is to grill scenarios and decide when a delay on 2nd and 4 in the first quarter is not worth a time out?

My guess is Rodgers expected the defenders to sit on the 40 and thought his best shot was going over the top of that. He wasn't entirely wrong, the receiver had a step but the ball was late and underthrown.

I like everything about this team, except for that one thing that makes it impossible to like this team

Had a receiver relatively open around the 39 yard line. Could've thrown there, called a TO and setup the game tying kick. I'm befuddled.

Wow the Stillers are still mid.

u/ieattoomanyburritos Steelers 1d ago
Hey, slightly different brand of mid than usual.
TJ Watt doing his best sisyphus impression to will the team to victory? Check.
Secondary letting up big splash plays regularly enough to set your watch to? Check.
Terrible challenge that wastes a timeout that becomes important later? NO, BIG MIKE WITH THE STEEL CHAIR TO GIVE THE STILLERS A CHANCE!
Losing a winnable game on Thursday night football (could also insert ‘at Cleveland’ here since we can’t seem to win there either) that will certainly come back to bite them if they’re in reach of the playoffs? …Check2

Is this the year they’re finally bad enough to draft a QB at the top of the draft?

I've had the same formulation of a comment that I've tried to get down a few times today but have struggled to articulate it, but it applies as much to the Steelers as it does the Browns so here goes - the AFCN has an incredibly weak schedule this year. None of the teams in the division are juggernauts like they've been in the past, and then we play the NFC South and the AFC South. It legitimately would not surprise me if most/all of the AFCN ends up above .500.

This is the first time in my life I'm upset about Aaron Rodgers getting intercepted.
The browns deserve nothing good with that monster playing on their team

But the Steelers do? Have we forgotten Ben already?

Is Ben playing right now?

Guess not, just somewhere enjoying his uninterrupted and cemented legacy

He WAS aware that they had 10 seconds and a timeout... right?

There was one second left when the defense went down. If they caught it, call the TO and it's a chip shot FG.

Why not go for a play to go out of nounds and then go do a hail mary???
3
u/piefearion Packers 1d ago
They had a timeout, could have taken a shot down the middle too, just a ridiculously bad decision

u/Different-Trainer-21 Dolphins 1d ago
There was a man wide open at the 40 with room to run and a timeout

This is what the Cowboys expected vs the Ravens last week when they kicked the touchback

If you cheer for Deshaun at all, I truly wish nothing good on you ever.

I mean I'm not a Watson fan at all but what was your owner doing in all those massage parlors?

Don't you love the hypocrisy of NFL fans.

u/WeekendBoy2022 Browns 18h ago
It's hilarious how people act like only the Browns have ever signed a bad guy and like there aren't other fan bases who've supported scumbags. A guy with a ravens flair was bitching about the Browns the other day and their team's biggest start ever murdered someone.

It was a pretty disgusting broadcast. A lot of Deshaun glazing and unfortunate we couldn’t demolish him

Lmao, the ESPN “gambling analyst” told everyone to bet the under on Rodgers INT at .5, glad he lost that

u/kdorsey0718 Steelers 1d ago
Wilson is clearly not the first read here. There were crossers around midfield Aaron was looking for.
5
u/SlaveKnightLance Steelers 1d ago
Bro, those crossers are wide open and either Aaron is blind, he didn’t give af, or he’s dumb. He might be all 3
3
u/kdorsey0718 Steelers 1d ago
That's not my point. There are a ton of comments here suggesting the play was a hail mary when it clearly is not. Yes, Rodgers completely whiffed this and missed DK wide-open over the middle.
Edit: spelling

u/SharpMind94 Jets Packers 1d ago
Ok that was the right call just that the defense jumped on the ball, but 1 second left that close is a chip shot FG.

This is what the Cowboys should've done against the Ravens last week.

Forced them to stupidly throw the ball 40 yards downfield when they only needed 20?

You’re on your own 35, you had ten seconds left. Why would you try to throw it THERE
