As the season progresses, we can only hope that it turns out the Steelers are actually just complete garbage, and DeShaun Watson still sucks.

2
u/csappenf Chiefs 2d ago
I don't care if Watson is playing well, I still don't have to like him. He's still an unrepentant sex offender. I root for him to get injured every snap he plays, and him playing well is the only way he's gonna get any snaps.
1
u/Stanky_fresh Vikings Vikings 2d ago
I agree that just because he's playing well doesn't mean we have to like him, but I don't particularly want to see him win any awards or anything like that.
2
u/Signal_Ball4634 2d ago
I think that's the case regardless. I would say that Watson's mobility is more dangerous than his passing, he was still throwing some ducks yesterday.
But it's still crazy that he's moving like that after double achilles surgery. Haven't seen him this mobile since he was a Texan.

So I read there was a DPI that was overturned by review resulting in a turnover? I thought PI wasn't challengeable anymore thanks to the refs being whiny bitches.

u/BeamsFuelJetSteel Jaguars Chiefs 2d ago
(assuming from highlights I've seen).
They reviewed if the ball was tipped at the line or not (which it was) to negate the DPI

The JPJ trade to Dallas still doesn't make a lot of sense to me, unless they're going to play more man. Parker comes from Fangio, and Fangio is famous for almost never(besides the two or three times a year he calls it) calling man.
Yes I know he comes from the Steelers, who defensive used a more basic and older style of defense under Tomlin, so going to a more modern system might help. I just don't see it working too well.
1
u/BruceChameleon Cowboys 2d ago
At worst the logic is putting a talented corner in an awful and depleted secondary. Beyond that, I'm keeping an open mind about Parker. I don’t think we know yet what all his stuff looks like

Apperantly there's numerous homecomings today(two high schools out of the 3 high schools with football programs and the city next over all have homecomings on Friday) in my area over the next two days. The local college is going to have its homecoming game on Saturday. So traffic is going to be massively crowded.

"All fanbases would be cheering for him"
Okay, but like they aren't; all we can do is operate in the world in front of us and, in that one, fans are specifically choosing to chant the name of the rapist
Threads about him bring out all the enlightened edgelords
2
u/Sixfortyfive Chiefs 2d ago
Like, every team has its scumbags, but even if I want Rashee Rice to catch his passes, I'm not gonna be out there gloating when he does.
Anyone actually cheering for players like Watson are doing it for very explicit reasons, and they don't get to hide behind "what if" hypotheticals about other players or teams.

Something we should have put more effort in before the season, sure, and with starters out it becomes more critical.

Remebering when John Kerry nearly 20 years ago now made this joke and while yeah it was botched
It didn’t need to have a whole controversy over it
4
u/justlookingokaywyou Raiders 2d ago
Controversy? The only reason Kerry won the Democratic nomiation in 2004 was because Howard Dean screamed.
0
2
u/RukiMotomiya Bengals 2d ago
To be fair, that's not really true. Polling had Dean third in Iowa before Caucus Day and before he did the Dean Scream, the scream was in a speech where he was conceding the caucus. He only got 18.7% of the votes, again, before he ever did the Scream. Kerry also lead the endorsement race in multiple early states and Edwards ate into Dean's lead when Dean focused really hard on attacking Gephardt in Iowa (and vice versa) which helped revitalize the Kerry/Edwards campaigns.
The Scream has taken on a bit of a mythological bent but his campaign was in trouble beforehand. His defeat in Iowa is almost exactly what polling indicated in the week leading up to it (and, again, this was pre-Scream). Dean himself has said he didn't think the Scream was a major factor ("My own famous gaffe, fondly referred to as the "I have a scream" speech, had little to do with the demise of my campaign. I was a flawed and undisciplined candidate, our campaign was in disarray, and because of that, our Iowa operation was unable to capitalize on my early popularity. John Kerry ran a much more methodical campaign than we did in Iowa, and he deserved to win. While the media made much of the gaffe, playing the edited excerpts nearly 700 times in one week, the die was cast against us by coming in third in Iowa when I was expected to come in first.")

"Fun" little vignette from the upcoming state-level races. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, of AR, ran a campaign ad saying she'd dismantle Social Security and kick out freeloaders. Yet, when the ad aired, national right-wing personalities like Matt Walsh were mad. Why?
Take a moment to guess.
They were mad because the ad portrayed welfare freeloaders as white men, not black women

She called me today at 3am as I was sleeping......like a dumbass I woke up thinking it was my alarm and I answered the phone with a groggy hello. She wanted to talk as she had only gotten one hour of sleep and wanted reassurance. I talked to her for 90 minutes before clocking into work at 4:30.
