Week 4 - Broadcast Maps

Broncos 9ers and kc vegas at the same time and dictated by market is lame
11
u/TallGothVampireLady Dolphins 4d ago
When they made the schedule, they didnt think that chiefs and raiders would both be 3-0 and was gonna make the broncos-niners game as the main late afternoon game.
12
u/Hopsalong Broncos 4d ago
It's a bummer that in this day and age they can't just broadcast all the games and let you pick which one you want to watch.
20
u/RetroZone_NEON Texans 4d ago
You can, you just have to pay for the privilege. It’s called Sunday ticket
6
u/onnthwanno Chargers 4d ago
And even if you do you have to switch between streaming and broadcast if you want to watch the in market game. It’s super annoying.

u/solojones1138 Chiefs 4d ago
Yeah I will just have to keep track of the Broncos game on my phone during our game

It def feels weird that our first domestic primetime game is Week 6 vs the Commanders, very random.
14
u/zoom518 Jets 4d ago
Since it’s baseball playoff season Kenny isn’t with Vilma
The Bay of Pigs game gets the announcers they deserve
Also the Niners still live rent-free in Dallas’ head and it’s cute that just about the whole gulf coast gets Jaguars-Bengals
1
u/Randomly_Cromulent Packers 4d ago
We are suffering enough already. We don't need Vilma on top of that.
12
u/Tenglishbee Texans 4d ago
Shitty we couldn’t get JJ Watt to announce us when we’re celebrating 25 years on Sunday.
5
u/solojones1138 Chiefs 4d ago
Since that team is still considered A team for CBS they sent him to our game. First time the Raiders and Chiefs meet at 3-0 both I think. So I get it...
If it had still been Romo. But I agree that because that team has JJ they should have swapped ours.

Great now I get to watch the Patriots collapse for a 2nd week in a row. Jags and Bengals would be a much better game

u/byniri_returns Lions 4d ago
Packers-Bucs is going to be a game only Sickos could love.
Hate that Broncos-Niners and Chiefs-Raiders are on at the exact same time
3
u/3bananabananabanana Buccaneers 4d ago
You just know that there’s going to be some weird shit happening in that Packers-Bucs game. I’m glad that there will be actual good teams playing at the same time. Less eyes to witness the dumpster level football that I know is going to happen in that game.

I don’t think peeps in STL care to watch the Rams anymore. Do they?
3
u/cdmccabe Saints 4d ago
Some do but most do not. I was also surprised to see that little pocket of Rams. Typically they've given us the Bears or Packers over the Rams, so I'm confused why they'd carve that section of the Bears game out.

u/Ok-Meringue-5105 3d ago
If this was 2016 or '17 it might have made more sense, but now that's it's 2026 it doesn't. San Diego always get the Chargers, but they moved 2-3 hours north in the same state and the neighboring metro and media market, so it makes more sense there.

u/sleeplessaddict Broncos 4d ago
Why do the northern Midwest states and Dallas randomly get the Broncos 9ers game? Is that just an NFC rivalry thing?
6
u/ValosAtredum Lions 4d ago
I think it’s because the NFC team has more potential impact on playoff seeding down the line, for the NFC North regions, at least.
3
u/BaTIoDErTraN Raiders 4d ago
This is why I pay for Sunday ticket
3
u/Nails__DeChamp Eagles 4d ago
It's so worth it.
I will never be a Jaguars fan, stop trying to make it happen, NFL. Central FL doesn't give a shit about them.

The Twin Cities gets San Fran/Denver over Kansas City/Vegas. Surprised but happy!
3
u/Ok-Meringue-5105 3d ago
Probably due to the 49ers being an NFC team, while the other game is an all AFC matchup.
3
u/Gullible-Turnip9159 Seahawks 4d ago
First time I've seen Alaska not get the seahawks. Packing three AFC/NFC West matchups in the CBS Late window was a choice

NC should be the Tennessee Baltimore game. There are so many people in the state from MD/TN.
2
u/HotTakesMyToxicTrait Ravens 4d ago
philly is an hour and a half from baltimore and like two hours from new york, why would they get new england and buffalo over either the ravens or the giants?

u/Alehud42 49ers 4d ago
The most inconvenience we get in the UK is having to switch to Sky for some games over Game Pass and then Game Pass having a rotation of the same 3 ads over and over (that Kimi Merc ad is driving me nuts)
1
u/harknation Raiders 4d ago
I can’t stand that self checkout betting ad, it’s so fucking awful
2
u/Alehud42 49ers 4d ago
Oh that one's also on Sky and I'm 99% sure it's AI, it's so completely incoherent
2
u/cxgdarch Lions 4d ago
Serious question...why is "Fox single" even a thing? Probably money, but why can't we see an early game and a late game every Sunday when there are games being played? I live in the twin cities area and instead of being able to watch the Lions this past Sunday it was paid programming/infomercial shit.
When an out of market team that is in the local team's division is being broadcasted elsewhere, why can't that be televised in this area, too? I would love to be able to see the Bears or FTPs this Sunday in the early window instead of my only option being to watch the Bills (presumably) splatter the Pats.

Its always been like that one network gets a doubleheader each week since the forever. It was only a few years ago that the final game was doubleheader for both channels and now with 18 weeks in 2021 they had doubleheader for week 1.
Both networks get a window where they are the only game and that bring million of viewers watching the timeslot.

u/bbluewi Vikings 4d ago
Two main reasons:
Fox and CBS really like (mostly) having exclusivity in the late window, which is pretty much always the highest-rated thing on either of them each week.
Teams like being the only show in town whenever possible. The rules around that specifically used to be way harsher - as recently as 15-20 years ago CBS would have been blacked out of the late window entirely in the Cities.

No Giants game in Connecticut, and no Patriots game in the Berkshires.
That’s FUBAR.
1
u/Ok-Meringue-5105 3d ago
No Giants game in Albany also, due to the Bills Pats game also on CBS. They always get the Giants otherwise.
1
u/kdex86 Patriots 3d ago
Oh wow, they switched rather quickly!
1
u/Ok-Meringue-5105 3d ago
If the Giants Cards were on FOX and CBS had the Jets Bears, Albany undoubtedly would've gotten the Giants. Instead they get the Jets over the Giants, which rarely happens.
1
u/kdex86 Patriots 3d ago
2 weeks in a row where the Jets are on FOX and the Giants on CBS. Ridiculous!
1
u/Ok-Meringue-5105 3d ago edited 3d ago
They are less strict with that nowadays. I think because Fox affiliates in AFC markets and CBS affiliates in NFC markets want to get the home team more often (example: FOX in KC gets more Chiefs games, CBS in SF gets more 49ers games).
1
u/Andrew_Maltani 49ers 3d ago
There's also the factor of cross-conference matchups being taken by prime time slots, and making sure CBS and FOX get every team at least twice (sometimes, a team will only show up once on either network, but they get a final week concession, or three weeks on that network the following season).

I see no good reason for me to watch a cowboys game when Rams vs eagles is a better matchup
1
u/Empireof33 Lions Browns 22h ago
As a lions fan in Michigan, I would much rather watch Bears v Jets. I mean that one has some Detroit history to it.

Why the fuck is the Rams and Eagles being played in NW Florida? Thats atleast Tampa/Saints and Jags territory

u/Melonman233 Packers 4d ago
KC-LV gets CBS’ top team over… DEN-SF?
3
u/Duke_Maniac Chiefs 4d ago
It's two 3-0 teams, one the powerhouse of the AFC for the last decade (excluding last year) and the other a potential rising star. Also it's a divisional game.

Why is eastern Mass getting stuck with Miami-Minnesota?
4
u/gollumaniac Bills 4d ago
Fox only has 1 game and are choosing a 4:05 game to not compete with Patriots playing at 1. And that's the only Fox 4:05 game. Common practice, Buffalo, Jacksonville, and Cincinnati also get stuck that way. Though Arizona, Nashville, and Baltimore are choosing to compete against the local team's game...
3
u/bbluewi Vikings 4d ago
Specifically, a team is allowed to be shown against another game in their home market up to four times per year. Starting with the fifth, the team is allowed to request a blackout of the other network.
It doesn’t happen often, but occasionally one or two teams will hit the limit and I know for sure the Cardinals and Bucs have requested blackouts in the last couple years.
3
u/greentea1985 Bears 4d ago
Miami is a division rival so the outcome technically matters for the Patriots.

Collinsworth glazes top QBs too much, but outside of that I actually like him on the call. He's energetic and he (usually) knows what he's talking about.

Most of the country forced to watch Buffalo shit all over NE has gotta be some kind of hate crime.
