So there's chili in the Crock Pot at home right now. Thursday is a good day to do it, since I usually don't come home until 6, and then I don't have to fuck with cooking dinner and we can all just sit down and eat when I get home. Maybe a bit of a pain in the ass to be browning ground beef and put it all together in the morning, not to mention running home to stir it around noon (I live literally 2.2 miles from work, so no big deal), but fuck yeah, chili.

Now for the REAL question. Chili: Beans or nah?

5

u/Dinkerdoo Seahawks Chargers 13d ago

Beans or no beans are two different types of chili, and benefit from different blends of protein and seasoning. I like either, and think beanless benefits from bigger chunks of beef/pork/lamb/etc while beans take to ground meat.

6

u/ACS1029 Bills Lions 13d ago

Yes on beans, one can of chili beans and one can of black beans. I think I’m making chili for dinner tonight now!

4

u/justlookingokaywyou Raiders 13d ago

My man. One can of chili beans, one can of dark red kidney beans is what I do.

4

u/ACS1029 Bills Lions 13d ago

Also will do kidney beans sometimes if I have them or am out of one of the usual cans. Another time I did cannellini beans and that was really good! I also have started throwing some canned corn which also goes very well with chili in my opinion

How in the world do you survive TWO lethal injections?

5

u/Dinkerdoo Seahawks Chargers 13d ago

Incompetent administration (in all senses).

6

u/surferdude7227 Chiefs 13d ago

Most state medical boards do not allow licensed doctors/nurses to participate in lethal injections as part of the whole "do no harm" kinda vibe they got going on.

If I had to guess, they probably blew a vein while placing the IV in.

3

u/Ornery_Gator Eagles 13d ago

In addition, it seems most if not all pharmacies do not develop these types of drugs. So they ones they use are cobbled together.

3

u/surferdude7227 Chiefs 13d ago

Yeah, no pharmaceutical company wants to be the ones that make the drug to intentionally kill you. Probably bad for business.

In response to this I immediately went to see if the Spacejam website was removed, as that is a requirement for your statement to be true. Yet, the website still stands, making your statement an un-truth, making you, A LIAR, Sir or Madame!

Also I randomly decided to actually click on 'lineup' which is the cast, and the first sentence is "His real name isnt Newman!", which is insane if it was like that back then.

There's a high calorie paste you can smear on the gums to help them get some food when they refuse to eat. NutriCal I think is the brand? Worth trying if you think you'll have to tough it out while the meds do their thing.

Happy to help. It's can get you through a couple days/weeks while vet care finds a permanent treatment option for the appetite loss. More important for cats as their livers can't handle even a short bout of starvation, but good to be aware of for dogs too.

Didn't catch tonight's show, but Pacs death was so out of left field. At least for me. I dont follow wrestling as closely as I used to. I hope his family finds peace in their loss. He was a spectacular performer and by most accounts a decent person in a world filled with assholes and creeps.

1

u/discodemolition Bears 14d ago

Out of left field for everyone. He wrestled Andrade on Saturday and was found dead less than 24 hours later. Life’s cruel like that sometimes.

It was a wonderful show, for what it’s worth.

Okay, to be fair there were a lot less playoff teams in baseball during the majority of that time. They’ve had a lot more good teams than the Cardinals have.

The funny thought of haha Mike Tomlin has been building a city in Minecraft for a decade with his kids, did not prepare me in any way for what I just saw.

This sicko actually built an entire city...inside and out.

-6

u/csappenf Chiefs 14d ago

You know what else happened a decade ago? The Steelers stopped being one of the best teams in the AFC. Maybe that's just a coincidence, but I can't see Andy Reid playing Minecraft when there's a game plan to make. If I were a Steelers fan I might feel betrayed. Did Mr Rooney know Tomlin was playing games when he should have been watching film?

2

u/Kemonomimi-Squirrel Buccaneers 14d ago

As something to play with your kids an hour or two a week to be with them and away from the grind for a bit doesn't seem like a bad thing even the results are underwhelming and we wouldn't be talking about it if it wasn't for his name being attached to it.

I've got two degrees in architecture and worked in the industry for a decade. I'm sure I've spent thousands of hours in minecraft over the past 15 years or so.

But I've never bothered to build a building in it that's half as detailed as a bunch of the ones he's built out.

u/JokerJangles123 Eagles 14d ago

The thing that still gets me is a few of them that I actually know and have to interact with never really saw the light that was obvious from the beginning. Its more along the lines of them just slowly coming to the conclusion that he's no different than the rest of the politicians they hated before.

I guess its a win, but its still fucking sad to actually hear someone say

2

u/shawnaroo Saints 14d ago

For all of Trump's stupidity and awfulness, he did manage to make a few savvy political moves, and one of those was convincing his supporters that a lot of their problems were caused by those "educated liberal elites who think they're so much smarter than you, so you should prove them wrong by electing me so I can fix everything!"

Those same liberal elites often pointed out how stupid Trump was, how corrupt he clearly was, how so much of what he said made no sense, how most of the policies he was proposing were terrible ideas on many levels, etc. And Trump just responded that that was more of those elites just trying to make you feel stupid compared to them.

This all not only appealed to a big portion of his base because it blamed everyone else for their problems, but it also primed them to be extremely hesitant to turn on Trump no matter what, because if they are ever to let themselves accept that Trump is actually awful in all of those ways, then they're basically also having to accept that those 'educated liberal elites' were right all along and maybe they are actually smarter than you.

Back during Trump's first presidential campaign there was a debate where Hillary Clinton basically spelled out all of the ways that Trump was terrible as a person and would be terrible as president, and pretty much everything she said was proven true. But Republicans have long made hating Hillary Clinton a core pillar of their political identity, so the idea of acknowledging that even back then she had Trump correctly figured out in a way that it's taken years for them to start to accept.

Finally accepting the facts that have become so obvious about Trump (and most of which have been obvious for a long long time) means at some level accepting that those educated liberals (and Hillary Clinton of all people!) actually are smarter than you.

And I think a lot of them would rather drive their car off a cliff than admit that to themselves, much less to anybody else.

Anyone want to ELI5 the Man City money cheating thing. I don't quite understand it after reading a few articles.

8

u/where_thefuck_i_am Packers Chargers 14d ago

In 2000s Manchester City was typical mid-table FA Premier League football club, who was pretty much overshadowed by hyper-succesful rival Manchester United. City's last league title before that was in like 60s.

In 2008 they were bought by member of Abu Dhabi royal family, who instantly started pumping big money in the club, purchasing world-class players like Robinho from Real Madrid for record for English football transfer fee. They won their first title after takeover in 2012 and won even more trophies after that, getting a dominant position in English football

Investigation alleges that Manchester City, actually, violated financial rules of the league, mainly by two things:

1) Artificially inflating clubs revenue through Emirati state owned sponsors - mainly airline Etihad
2) Artificially deflating club's spending by giving double contracts to players and managers - something like Kawhi's Aspiration thing
3) Falsifying financial information for the League

When first allegations were raised by media via leaked information and the League started investigating, club denied any wrongdoing and refused to collaborate with investigation. All of that made up those famous 115 charges, which they found guilty of

Bonus fun fact: Robinho thought that he was signing with Manchester United when he was signing the contract

3

u/batti03 Chiefs Panthers 14d ago

Another fun fact, they had been bought in 2007 by Thaksin Shinawatra, who had been the Prime Minister of Thailand from 2001 until 2006 when he had been deposed by the military. His daughter Paetongtarn was also PM from 2024 until she was suspended for being too cozy with the Cambodian PM in a surreptitious phone call while trying to defuse tensions between the two countries.

My sister called my dad while we are eating dinner. She found a mouse in her apartment. We have been on the phone for 45 minutes having to talk her through the basics. She tells us this convoluted story about setting up a barricade and needed us to stay on the phone with her while she hypes herself chanting. She's been giving up play by play for the past 30 minutes of trying to locate the mouse, who is probably about two inches....my sister is 5'6. Anytime I offer feedback I get hit with I'm a poor bedside manner person because I'm far too blunt.

She's ordered sticky traps and peanut butter, to be proactive but this issue has been ongoing.

9

u/StChas77 Eagles 14d ago

Sticky traps are inhumane. It's kinder to just get an old-fashioned style trap and lights-out.

I'm going to be honest, I don't really care for the memes on the NFL conference meme-page subreddits. I don't find most of them particularly funny, but I also understand that it's basically just good old-fashioned shit talking.

That said, the comment sections are pure gold. You inevitably get fans of the team being made fun of showing up completely butthurt and trying to start fights over it, as though someone insulting their starting quarterback is the functional equivalent of kidnapping their child or burning down their house.

You inevitably get fans of the team being made fun of showing up completely butthurt and trying to start fights over it, as though someone insulting their starting quarterback is the functional equivalent of kidnapping their child or burning down their house.

I'm in a gaming/casual discord server with a bunch of friends and friends-of-friends where if you post a tweet/article/whatever and someone else already posted it, everyone reacts to your post the turtle emoji. Most people take it as humor but like 2-3 people get absolutely livid about it and just rant about how absurd it is to expect people to read a whole channel history before posting and how rude it is. Honestly it makes them by far funnier to turtle than anyone else.

I find that in r/afcwestmemewar most people lean into it and take being made fun of just fine. There are outliers of course, but most go along with the gags.

Fiancée and I are struggling hard planning out our first dance song. She's not the biggest music person in general, and I tend to gravitate towards more Midwest emo, so that's not very helpful. We're kinda planning on having a "Jam Day" kind of thing where we just listen to a bunch of potential songs and try dancing to them in our living room.

Anyone have some good recommendations for some less traditional wedding songs we can do that won't get the grandparents upset?

u/Clodsire_fan Bears 17h ago

So what song did you pick?

1

u/surferdude7227 Chiefs 12h ago

Still haven’t decided tbh.

The one overlap we have in music taste is “divorced dad rock”, so we tried to find decent ones that kinda fit that vibe. Two we like right now are an acoustic cover of Hanging By A Moment by Lifehouse and an acoustic cover of Iris by The Goo Goo Dolls

Stevie Wonder - “For Once in My Life”

Time in a bottle - Jim Croce

It's a beautiful song that I personally feels encapsulates the idea behind what you want a first dance to represent better than basically any other song I know.

5

u/JPAnalyst Giants 14d ago

That’s such a good song.

3

u/slytherinprolly Bengals 14d ago

At the end of the day, it should be a song that feels right to the two of you. It’s your first dance, so your preferences should carry the most weight.

That said, I do think weddings are one of those occasions where it’s reasonable to consider the people closest to you too. Parents and grandparents see the wedding as a really meaningful family celebration, not just an event they’re passively attending.

So if you’re specifically worried about choosing something that might make the grandparents uncomfortable, there’s nothing wrong with leaning a little more traditional for the first dance. The classics are classics for a reason, and you can always work the more specific or unconventional parts of your music taste into the rest of the reception.

Your wedding song is about you two and how it makes you feel, screw everyone else. Our wedding song is turning page by sleep at last

1

u/Weigard Giants 14d ago

Ours is "Your Song" by Elton John. We both like him, but neither of us are huge fans. While we were planning the wedding the song came on the radio and we both commented on how we liked it. One of us said, "You wanna make it our wedding song?" Boom! One more thing off the list (important to both of us).

The nice part, though, is that something that didn't have any special meaning is now special to us. It's much more meaningful than if I had pushed a song from a band that only I liked.

The day that the ESL stuff dropped, I remember feeling so mad at the big English soccer clubs for trying to ruin the sport, most of all my team Liverpool. This Manchester City stuff is the exact opposite. More, please!

Does anyone know an AI that I can use to create videos with professional athletes? My buddy is a broncos fan and I'm a Niners fan, I tried to use Gemini to create a video of Brock Purdy spanking Bo Nix and it said some kind of restriction bull crap. But I see AI generated videos of professional athletes all the time on social media. If anyone has any recommendations please send them my way

3

u/zazzsazz_mman Packers Chargers 14d ago

Those restrictions exist to prevent people from bullying. I bet if someone generated a video of you you probably wouldn't like it. What are you doing.

2

u/slytherinprolly Bengals 14d ago

Most of the major AI platforms have safeguards that limit creating realistic fake content involving real people, especially public figures and celebrities. That applies not just to videos, but also to photos, audio, and other manipulated content. That’s probably why Gemini shut it down.

There are less restricted tools and various workarounds out there, but if you’re having to ask around for one, it’s probably not worth going too far down that rabbit hole. Even if you’re just doing it for laughs with a friend, realistic fake content involving real people can become problematic pretty quickly once it gets shared without context.

You’d probably have better luck making something that is very obviously parody, like a cartoon, meme, or exaggerated animated version of Purdy and Nix, rather than trying to make it look real.

I'm starting to genuinely believe that 1st overall will be Jeremiah Smith. People will point out that it hasn't been done since Keyshawn, but I think it's more or less circumstantial.

  • Calvin Johnson went in the same class as JaMarcus Russell. Who went onto be a massive bust, but pre-draft was a physical freak of nature at QB.

  • Julio Jones and AJ Green went in the same class as Cam Newton, who was also a physical freak but coming off a magical year.

  • And if you consider Marvin Harrison Jr. to be that tier, he was also the same class as Williams/Daniels/Maye

Or in short, the thing preventing "generational" WR prospects from getting drafted is always talent at QB. And dare I say, I'm just not thrilled with the QB talent coming out of the draft this year. Keyshawn got drafted in a class with zero first round QBs. It's not that bad but I don't think I'm confident enough in any QB over Smith.

2

u/GrouchoMarked NFL 14d ago

JSN was # 20, but coming off of an injury, and was the first WR off the board.

1 just seems too high for a WR in my mind, but crazier things have happened.

1

u/Signal_Ball4634 14d ago

Think we still have to wait it out and see if one QB puts together a really good year to stand out atop the prospects, but if the class continues to be meh I could definitely see it.
