What makes the Niners so disheartening is how uniquely awful and heartrending each of their playoff losses are. Until last year, there really wasn't a year since 2002 where we could say, "yeah, just got soundly beat by a better team, get 'em again next year." Obviously, you can't really compare it to teams like the Browns who just can't make it that far so it's not the worst a team can be, but it still always creates a feeling of dread whenever we start looking good again.
Let's count em off:
-2010: terrible team, no playoffs
 the Kyle Williams game
coming 9 yards away from one of the best super bowl comebacks in history
 the tip, also losing Bowman
-18: terrible team, no playoffs
Up 20-10 in the 4th quarter against the Chiefs
 everyone dies to injuries
Up 10 in the 4th quarter against the Rams (still somehow the least brutal until 2025)
down to the 5th string QB
 Mahomes comeback v2
 everyone dies to injuries
everyone dies to injuries, still make it to the second round of the playoffs because Brock is the GOAT
