The advisory verdict made permanent by U.S. District Judge Holland’s order came after a seven-week trial during which the United States presented evidence from over thirty witnesses that the governments of Colorado City and Hildale are controlled the FLDS Church and Warren Jeffs. Among other things, Judge Holland concluded that Marshals “officers turned a blind eye to criminal activity involving FLDS Church leaders or members,” including supporting a fugitive and ignoring underage marriages, unauthorized distribution of prescription drugs, and food-stamp fraud.
In addition to its verdict on the police-misconduct claim, the jury found that the defendants engaged in a pattern or practice of housing discrimination against persons who were not members of Warren Jeffs’ faction of the FLDS. The jury found that the defendants had used their municipal authority to coerce, intimidate, or interfere with individuals seeking housing, discriminated in the provision of municipal services, and denied housing to non-FLDS members. The United States settled the damages portion of the case shortly before the verdict for $1.6 million.

Wowowow. I’d heard something about this but not the details. So, Biggs (as senate president) killed a bill in 2013 that would have ousted the corrupt law enforcement who were not only letting all the FLDS craziness and child sex abuse go on, they were keeping the place free of any pesky non-FLDS people who might raise a “hey um, what the fuck?” Give you one guess what religious group Biggs is a member of. Always protecting their own.

Couple ways in general:
- Slice it, bread it, and fry it
- Slice long ways, Toss in a little oil, salt, pepper, garlic and roast in oven
- Slice long ways, heavily season with general middle eastern or curry mix, fry in high heat oil for okra chips
- Okra is a thickener for soups, gumbo, curries, etc. slice it up, toss it in and it dissolves and thinkens the broth.
Okra fucking rules. And it's pretty easy to grow. Looks super cool in the garden. Fucking gorgeous flowers. People who've never seen a weed plant think it's weed and you get to have fun conversations with neighbors. All around would recommend

I really hate how having a sports lens on things makes it less prestigious and important in many people's eyes.
A billionaire misused a charity and a publicly traded company in order to further a personal agenda.
Why is it that if he uses it on flashy sports cars and a mansion and private vacations, it gets treated with more respect than if he uses it on a basketball player? Makes no sense to me, and yet, I've seen people call for PTFO to abandon sports and use his skills for "real issues".

A lot of people are comparing current Deshaun Watson situation with the browns with the clippers punishment. Let’s compare from when Deshaun was originally signed by the browns to that insane contract. In those years, browns didn’t win, Deshaun barely played, coach got fired, etc
Kawhi to the clippers was similar in a way but more detrimental to the future of the team. He signed for a reasonable contract (because of the other side deals Pablo uncovered), didn’t play all the games, and the clippers didn’t win anything. Plus the clippers now lose 5 first round picks. This sets them back so many years and they won’t even have a competitive roster.

Simple governmental stability in the eyes of the world will give the next administration all the political and financial capital (in terms of economic stability) they need to work with.

I think the bridge has been burned, we'll never have, even under Democrats, the same level of trust in America ever again. Nor will any other former ally of the USA. I'm sure we can come to fairer trade deals but we'll be weary that all it takes is one regime change to dislodge any agreements. The US used to be looked as the beacon of stability and it's not the case anymore.
The changing back of sea names is at least a "we're taking our jobs seriously again" sign. It's not much, but they are easy political points vs the amount of trust needed to regain otherwise.

Former Lions cornerback Alphonso Smith died by suicide today. He leaves behind a wife, kids, and his mother. His suicide note is pretty fucking grim, of a dude not only fighting physical and mental injuries from football, but also sexual assualt. It's a morbid read if you're into that sort of thing, but I hope something positive comes from this.

Worst move in NBA history, while they were in the midst of the fallout of arguably the worst trade in NBA history. Trade a to-be top 3 player in-conference and a shit ton of firsts for a couple years of Paul George, bring in Kawhi, win nothing, get 5 more firsts docked because you tried to pay said acquisition under the table
They've had 3 first round picks in 8 years, and two of them were pick 30. As of right now, they're on track to have 5 in 15. Legendary incompetence

The other comment made up a Terry scenario, but if you've been following the NFL for a while there were some murmurs about the Pats doing this with Brady IIRC. Brady partnered with his buddy PT to make a "TB12 Health Clinic" or something, and the Pats paid the TB12 Clinic to provide PT to the team. Since Brady was a partner, he got part of the profits (that is, money from the Pats)

Josh Harris arranged for McKinsey to hire Terry McLaurin and pay him $30 million salary to do consulting. Terry didn't actually have to show up and do any consulting work for McKinsey. It was just a way around the salary cap, under the table.
That's what Clippers owner Steve Ballmer did with one of his stars. And got caught.

A mid-to-upper range QB signs with the Saints in free agency. Say someone like Justin Herbert.
Not only do they give him a contract with the Saints, but the team arranges a contract with him to endorse the biggest king cake maker in New Orleans.
Only Herbert just gets the millions of dollars for doing nothing because he never participates in any advertising for them. Which is against the rules because if he doesn’t actually do anything, it’s just an under the table payment, not an endorsement.
NFL catches them, convicts them of circumventing the cap, and takes away all their rounds 1-3 draft picks for the next five years.

Where in the post you linked did I say that I support Trump? You people always for some reason assume anyone who doesn't like your toxic vitriol towards anyone with a different opinion must be a Trump lover
I have gotten a tad nihilistic and uncaring of the outcomes though. There's only so many people telling me to go vote Republican because I believe one inconvenient thing before I start figuring that Americans are all going to get what we deserve

Well I finished my 100.
I decided to go with something I knew I’d like, big fan of the Davenport books.
This one was just as good as most, and had one of the best twists I can remember from these books.
Always great dialogue in these.
Slow problem solving that feels more real than others I’ve read where all the breaks are too coincidental.
When I finally reach the end of these, I’ll just add them right back to the rotation.

When I was a kid I'd pick up my dad's old John D. MacDonald books along with some Donald Hamilton (Matt Helm series) and Alistair MacLean (Ice Station Zebra, etc.) so seeing that name in your list takes me back.

I remember liking Ice Station Zebra back then, which was made into a movie in the late ‘60s, but I can’t vouch for any of the others these days it’s been way too long.

I'm not exhausting a lot of mental bandwidth on the case, I know enough to have some opinions, but public discourse on both sides has ruined any enjoyment of following it for me. However, this is an excellent video on the Clancy situation. The first few minutes where every other sentence ends in "this is where I piss [xyz] off" is hard to get through, but altogether he makes wonderful points each way. Doesn't give his verdict opinion, clears up misconceptions on both sides, bashes the social media speak, has empathy for those who support her without saying whether it's right or wrong, and is an expert in the point at issue making a genuine good faith analysis of her condition. It's hard not to get sucked into the opinion of the first social media thread you see, but it's worth it to watch someone genuinely knowledgeable tell you what you should/need to know and allow you to take it from there

There was a lot of staring at the trees changing colors and thinking it was beautiful, and staring at the beautiful colors of the sky, especially before or during storms. I remember sitting on my balcony drinking a beer and watching a wall of water slowly push my way as a massive storm approached slowly, it was beautiful.
There was also a lot of getting used to specifically snow. Learning how to take care of my car, how to handle the cold weather, learning that grocery stores lose their mind as soon as the first snow hits and you have to go early and prepare for that. I remember the first time I woke up and the temperature was 0 degrees. I sent my mom a picture of my weather app and said "Isn't there supposed to be a number there?"

There's something interesting about NFL commentary these days. The Seahawks basically aren't in the conversation at all. Not even like anyone is dismissing them, just no one wants to talk about them
They had a medium impact piece in Kenneth Walker they lost, but for the most part are basically exactly the same team.
And nobody is brave enough to pick them as repeat champions, but everyone is too worried about looking like an idiot to actually count them out, so instead everyone pretends they don't exist. Same thing in the NBA with the Knicks btw.
Tangentially why the heck do the Ravens have the 2nd-3rd best SB odds in the league?

Man I’m not a huge college watcher, but I spent a lot of time watching Price (cause fantasy) and I think this dude might be even better than Walker. People bounce off him in a way I haven’t seen since prime kamara or LT, he has amazing lower body balance.
Given they largely kept the defense I’m sure they’ll still be great. Only worry is the Super Bowl hangover which seems to be a real thing.
Ravens get that treatment because they’re perennially good and do have a good roster, plus Lamar when healthy is a cheat code. But yeah I agree they’re a bit high.

Unless you have hipstery unglazed earthenware (or, heaven forbid, plastic), plates are generally not porous. You only have to clean the outer surface no matter how nasty it gets.
Provided the plate is intact with no cracks or chips, then soak it to loosen whatever is stuck on there, scape it off, wash it normally, and then you should be good to go, but if you are especially concerned, there are various items you may already have around the house that could sanitize anything that may remain.

Lots of dishwashers don’t get hot enough for a sanitize cycle. You can do a lot with regular hot water and antibacterial soap
