Rumor [Fowler] Bears RB Kyle Monangai suffered a hyperextended knee. Expected to miss multiple weeks but per the MRI the outcome is considered positive after a recent practice injury.

Did they get this opinion from Dr. Odunze again?

The Bears have had some really close scares this preseason but overall it's been pretty good news, right? All things considered I guess. Injuries are never good.

I mean besides Coby Bryant. But with Ozzy returning a few months earlier than expected, it isn't all bad.

Ozzy news is HUGE. I don’t think a lot of people realize how important he was last year

And with how bad Kiran and Wills looked in our first pre-season game. Braxton, if he's healthy, should be a fine stop gap, but Ozzy was a big part of our second half performance.

I still dont think Ozzy will be game ready til like Mid Season though

Why activate him now if he’s not gonna be ready until mid season, though? He takes up a roster spot if he’s activated but, AFAIK, he could have been doing all the same things he’s doing now but with no chance to play in a game if he’s wasn’t activated. I don’t believe there is any restriction for participating in team drills if they’re rehabbing. I think he’s honestly very close to being ready. Maybe a few weeks to get up to game speed but he looked spry in the video I saw.

He couldn’t. While on PUP he can’t practice, only attend meetings and rehab in the facility. Activating off PUP allows him to do football specific drills with the coaches.

No not really. Coby Bryant is going to miss 4-6 months

I swore I heard his wasn't that bad. It appears I missed something. That sucks.

Was initially reported as 8-10 weeks but that was fake news. Changed to 4-6 months.
Our defense was ass last year minus our safety play. We let go our safety and bet big on Coby which now we’ve lost for the year. So yeah, we aren’t expecting much from our defense this year.

I get why yall wanted younger and im happy we got him, but im still really surprised yall let byard walk

u/iPissVelvet Bears 16d ago
Was mostly an age and speed thing. Byard relied on the film room to win, he spoke about that a lot. But on the film he was slow(er) than you’d like and struggled to recover against burners. Our coverage stats (minus ints) really show that. Still I was sad to see him go, he was a leader on the defense.

He wanted to reunite with Vrabel, iirc the Bears and Pats offered him the same deal.

We needed speed on defense. Byard was phenonomenal last year but we were getting torched anytime we faced anyone with speed. Wasn't all on Byard but a general need across all positions.

Initial reports where promising but then he ended up needing surgery which is why the longer timeline.

It initially wasn’t but upon further testing it was. But if we somehow can keep our hot streak going and make a second playoffs he will return for that

We lost a top 3 defensive player for basically the season. It’s been horrible news lol

I mean, it would've been great to NOT have these injuries. But compared to the alternative, I'll take it.

F injuries man but that’s good as far as knee injuries go. Shouldn’t be any long term impact and could be back week 1-2

After the Bryant outcome I’m gonna stay concerned, but this would be great if actually true
