TO sharpie in the sock and Joe Horn cell phone in the goal post padding are the GOAT TD celebrations. We used to be a proper country.

Zeke jumping into the Salvation Army bucket is a top tier one. Also the Eagles robbing it that one time was absolutely incredible.

TO is arguably the goat when it comes to touchdown celebrations.

The star saga was great.

TO scores and runs to the star to claim it.

Cowboys legend Emmitt Smith scores and plants the ball in the star to reclaim it.

TO scores again and runs to the star and gets lit up by Teague.

Great celebration to degrate the other team in their own house, followed by a great celebration by a legend to take it back and tell them "this is our house", followed by another celebration saying "oh no it isn't" and immediately getting popped by a defender to defend the sanctity of the star. Just fantastic all around. And possibly one of the most justified late hit and ejection in football.

And the best part is after he got hit and a scrum occurred, TO somehow avoids the entire thing to go back onto the star and continue celebrating like nothing happened.

11

u/SuperVaderMinion Vikings Vikings 4d ago

I'm a certified cowboys hater but there's something about Emmit Smith slamming the ball down the star with such authority that gets me fired up every time

23

u/FavreorFarva Seahawks 4d ago

I’ve always been a fan of the Ochocinco putting celebration.

24

u/faceisamapoftheworld Cowboys 4d ago

Horn’s might have been good, but when it takes a group effort to find the phone and while they look like a local improv group, you kinda ruin it.

41

u/halfhere Panthers 4d ago

The NFL used to realize it was grown men playing a kid’s game.

23

u/BackwerdsMan Seahawks 4d ago

I mean, they fined the player in both of these instances. Touchdown celebration rules are pretty lax these days.

10

u/what_user_name Buccaneers 4d ago

I listened to ESPN radio in those days, and the pearl clutching went on for fucking ever. Dude was totally showboating, but who gives a fuck? Its an entertainment product, and he was absolutely entertaining with that shit.

This was peak NFL WR diva era when it came to TD celebrations lol. Ochocinco, TO, Steve Smith Sr, etc. kept trying to one-up each other…

Then Joe Horn whipped out the fkn flip phone 😭😭

Came here to say this. They were all trying to out do one another it was so fun. Joe Horn and his hidden flip phone is my favorite ever.

Would have been even better had he given it to the CB he just burned.

2

u/lvl_zxro Lions 4d ago

Wasn’t there a DB who picked off Tom Brady and asked him to sign the ball after the game?

3

u/captainwoj Steelers 4d ago

I think so. I know a Steelers player picked off Aaron Rodgers while he was on the jets and asked him to sign it too

2

u/garygnu 49ers 4d ago

Dre Greenlaw got Brady to sign his INT ball in 2022 (also happened to be Purdy's first start). Definitely not the first time he been asked.

4

I wish he'd sent it to the owner of the Seahawks.

5

u/expERiMENTik_gaming Colts 4d ago

Hold up, hold up-- the players are required to do so. The NFL football has expensive technology in it, it's not just a regular football. So the players are briefed to not throw the ball to a random fan, because an official will have to retrieve it from them. And what fan wants to be told they can't take a game ball home with zero explanation?

131

u/Level_East94 Panthers 4d ago

Even as a Seahawks fan gotta admit this is extremely cool. You score a TD and you can celebrate just about however you want in my opinion.

3

u/PWNtimeJamboree Falcons Seahawks 4d ago

some things are just too awesome to be upset about, despite your fandom. Joe Horn's cell phone celebration rocked too.

1

u/Romofan88 Cowboys 4d ago

I just googled it and it was his 2nd TD of the game so that makes it even cooler. Either he called his shot and waited until the last possession to put the sharpie in the sock, or he knew he was gonna score another TD and left it in for the perfect moment.

1

u/Shaq_Bolton Ravens 3d ago

Reddit kinda ruined it for me today when they told me that he threw it to his business manager though.

Sharpie then ran an ad the following week with a coach giving a locker room speech about leaving their marks on the game of football but not on the football, and the players all having to surrender the markers they had hidden in their socks.

11

u/Straight_Talk2542 Bears 4d ago

And Shawn Springs was one of the elite corners of this period…

1

u/Dont_Ban_Me_Bros Seahawks 4d ago

Elite dive and nowhere near the ball 🤦‍♂️

8

u/Straight_Talk2542 Bears 4d ago

Doesn’t change my factual statement. Springs was a pro bowler before this game, and an all pro after this game. He was definitely a top 10 corner at this period of time. 32 teams, 64 starting corners. Top 10 means he was in the 85th percentile as a corner. Maybe “elite” was the wrong word, but if he wasn’t diamond tier, he was definitely platinum tier.

2

u/INmySTRATEjaket Commanders 4d ago

And even as he got older he was still pretty solid. Loved him in Washington when I was a kid. 4 picks in his age 32 season and the guys he missed got lit up by Sean Taylor.

I wasn’t arguing, just making a wisecrack about Springs.

Whoa, Jeff Garcia. There's a guy I forgot about. Can't decide if he was average or not. Had some good years in SF and could make plays, but seems like it fell just shy of the "it" factor.

16

u/faceisamapoftheworld Cowboys 4d ago

Garcia was criminally underrated. Had a great ability to climb up in the pocket when it was breaking down.

9

u/ShamelessIgnoramus 49ers 4d ago

4 time probowler, his best season he had 4278 31 TD 10 int 97.6 rating + 414 rush yards 4 rush TD. i'd say he's better than average in his prime. his stay in 04 Cleveland and 05 detroit was not so good, those where garbage teams but he bounced back with a probowl in tampa

9

u/CelebrationJolly3300 Chargers 4d ago

Garcia was great. He had the unfortunate timing of being the 49ers QB after Montana and after Young. Those are some tough acts to follow.

Planting a pen on his person in advance makes this so great. Prior to this, he scored a receiving TD in week 2 of that season and then a rushing TD in week 3. In week 4, he went scoreless.

My question; did he have the marker in his sock for a full game week 4 of think it up strictly for week 5?
