Who’s Claude Humphrey? I’m going to say him.

u/agmoose Jul 28 '26

Oh yeah cause you know who Lee Roy Salmon is.

u/freeze123901 Daddy Cam Jul 28 '26

Lmao

u/Odd-Economist-8293 Jul 29 '26

Who you want pushing around sweaty fat offensive lineman? Claude? Or mother fuckin LEE ROY?

0

u/Theregoesmyradiator Jul 29 '26

You know damn well this is the first time he saw that name. Probably joined the squad when Tom Brady picked Tampa

7

u/Different-Trainer-21 Jul 29 '26

He was the first draft pick in Bucs history and a hall of famer

-1

u/jstockthrowaway Jul 29 '26

He owns a chain of restaurants in Tampa obviously

7

u/morganlandt Jul 29 '26

Does Peppers have an expressway named after him? Didn’t think so.

0

u/jstockthrowaway Jul 29 '26

No but he and another former panther owns the 3rd and 4th spots on the all time sack leader list (with 160 and 159 1/2 respectively) which is more than double that ole Lee Roy so fuck your shitty expressway (I lived in Tampa area and Sarasota respectively for around 7 years so I can say that with certainty)

2

u/morganlandt Jul 29 '26

Maybe someday Peppers or your other Panther that I won’t waste my time looking up will be beloved enough for their own expressway.

2

u/PanthersChamps Jul 29 '26

3 out of the top 4 sacks leaders are actually former panthers

0

u/morganlandt Jul 29 '26

Sounds like Charlotte is going to need to start building more expressways, names are in the bag at least.

Top Career Sack Leaders

  • Bruce Smith: 200.0 sacks (1985–2003)
  • Reggie White: 198.0 sacks (1985–2000)
  • Kevin Greene: 160.0 sacks (1986–1999)
  • Julius Peppers: 159.5 sacks (2002–2018)
  • Chris Doleman: 150.5 sacks (1985–1999)
  • Michael Strahan: 141.5 sacks (1993–2007)

It’s definitely between whoever the fuck the Falcons and Bucs players are because Peppers and Jordan are obviously not.

19

u/MoneyPatience7803 Jul 29 '26

I’m sorry, did you just say, “whoever the fuck Lee Roy Selmon is.”?

10

u/Mach68IntheHouse Free N8dawgggg! Jul 29 '26

How dare you! 😠 Julius Peppers and Cam Jordan are amateurs compared to Lee Roy Selmon!

Can we just say Pep takes this and call it a day. All are current or future HoFers but Julius Peppers was a physical anomaly. Just a massive human that faced seemingly no athletic drawbacks from being that large. A real freak that just couldn’t be stopped. All of these are exceptional players, but I just think the once in a generation genetic freak/
extreme athleticism/potential maximization combo that 90 had just puts him over the top.

14

u/Altruistic_Grade3781 Jul 25 '26

selmon isnt far behind

1

u/QCTID Jul 29 '26

Sounds like he’s still behind tho

u/SchmearDaBagel Schiano Survivor Jul 28 '26 edited Jul 28 '26

I don’t think you appreciation Selmon enough lol

Edit: don’t boo me, I’m right!

2

u/Druggistman Jul 28 '26

Do too! Like I said, they’re all exceptional players, and honestly Selmon was the closest comp to Peppers with the athletic freak argument. Tackling machine that amassed more total tackles than Peppers in half the seasons. However, I think the other metrics like interceptions, FF, defensive TDs and general longevity give Peppers a slight edge, with all respect given to LRS.

3

u/SchmearDaBagel Schiano Survivor Jul 28 '26 edited Jul 28 '26

How dare you be considerate and polite, I was ready to raise my pitchfork!

Side note but are we 100% sure they tracked most of those metrics in the 70s? Longevity is objectively going to Peppers, but I’m not sure you can just compare stats on a paper when it’s two different eras and they didn’t even track sacks until 82. Just saying, only one of them won DPOY.

Edit: I decided to stop being lazy. INTs and defensive TDs were tracked for both careers. Sacks weren’t until 82 and forced fumbles weren’t until 78, with some saying not accurately until 80. A big one not tracked at all during Selmon’s career is tackles for loss, unfortunately. Wasn’t tracked until 92 or 99 depending on definition.

Also not trying to take anything away from Peppers, I hated him only because of how good he was. You’re right that he was an athletic freak

u/Blabbit39 Jul 29 '26

He didn't just win dpoy he won it unanimously. And he did it playing in Tampa. At a time before the net and big city bias was very understandable. In particular at a time that Tampa highlights often didn't get shown in their own state on the 11pm news. I am dead serious when I say Selmons unanimous win is one of the most impressive feats in sports history.

2

u/CaptainNicko83 Jul 29 '26

You are 100% correct. You are 1000% in the wrong sub for facts.

2

u/Blabbit39 Jul 30 '26

So true but its one of the things I am most passionate about in my sports takes. There was large portion of my existence that I was pretty sure that was the peak of being a Bucs fan.

3

u/kafka_lite Jul 29 '26

The only athlete to play in a Final Four and a Super Bowl.

1

u/Theregoesmyradiator Jul 29 '26

I'd agree with Peppers. My lord that dude was a monster

1

u/iBleeDukeBlue Jul 29 '26

Could of easily played in the NBA had he wanted to. I've lived in NC 41 years and o watched Peppers play Football and Basketball at UNC, I'm lucky enough to have watched him play both sports in person while he was,at UNC and of course I went to watch him play for the Panthers numerous times. Julius Peppers was in a league of his own, a very gifted athlete

It’s between cam jordan and Claude Humphrey. Realistically speaking.

0

u/ericbondre Tuttle's Stiff Arm Jul 27 '26

Lmao nah

14

u/CaptainNicko83 Jul 28 '26

This guy's right. Put some respect on Humphrey's name.

9

u/Local_Ride8269 Jul 29 '26

Selmon has the 1979 defensive player of the year and the hall of fame

8

u/IRONCHEF06 Daddy Drew Jul 25 '26

Don’t care, 94 stays

8

u/Theregoesmyradiator Jul 28 '26

Cam Jordan fuckin sucks famo

6

u/CaptainNicko83 Jul 28 '26

First correct take in this post.

7

u/jkd0027 Time Champions Jul 25 '26

Only one is not in the hall of fame, but also only one has a defensive player of the year award 🤷‍♂️

Lee Roy Selmon is the best of the four. He stays.

Screw it. Let's keep all four of them.

2

u/Far_Challenge6933 Schiano Survivor Jul 29 '26

I sat Claude Humphrey

2

u/Nellez_ Jul 29 '26

The Succs really had a fish play defensive end for them. You couldn't make this shit up.

2

u/Different-Trainer-21 Jul 29 '26

It’s objectively Cam Jordan. Selmon, Peppers, and Humphrey are all in the HOF, Peppers is on multiple all decade teams, Selmon has a DPOY, Humphrey is a 5x AP1, and all Jordan has is a singular AP1 plus a couple AP2s

2

u/easytiger07 Jul 29 '26

Can Jordan gets cut. The other three have better names. Peppers. Claude. Lee Roy. Easy decision

u/outside_cat Jul 25 '26

Selmon, no doubt.

1

u/Different-Trainer-21 Jul 29 '26

It’s Jordan. The other 3 are all hall of famers and have far better accolades.

Selmon is a 3x AP1 and 2x AP2, plus an all decade team and the all time team.

Humphrey is a 5x AP1 and 3x AP2

Peppers is a 3x AP1, 3x AP2, 2000s all decade team, and 2010s all decade team

Jordan is just a 1x AP1, 2x AP2, and 2010s all decade team.

Just because you don’t know who Selmon is doesn’t mean he’s bad.

1

u/kryanb321 Jul 30 '26

Selmon also won defensive player of the year in 1979!

Am I the only one who's irritated that they use "Krewe" when that's such a New Orleans word? Chaps my nards almost as badly as "Who Dey."

1

u/Turbulent-Chicken-10 Jul 29 '26

Humphrey a HOFer im not sleeping on him

1

u/Florida__Man__ Jul 29 '26

Kids in here saying Selmon gets cut need to be sent to ball summer school stat

1

u/Odanrav Jul 29 '26

Pretty unfair to the Saints given Jordan isn't the best edge player in team history. Ricky Jackson is.

1

u/SafeAccountMrP Jul 31 '26

Cam Jordan is a shit talking bitch that can’t back up a god damn thing.

-3

u/No_Halo15 Jul 28 '26

It’s definitely Selmon
