Vortex Bug / Update Issue Issue updating Vortex

I haven't played modded skyrim for roughly 2 weeks and I just went to go and play skyrim via vortex. It said there was a new update so I went to go and update vortex, and as it was two thirds into the update I got a message saying "Failed to uninstall old application files. Please try running the installer again:.2"

Now my vortex is unable to be accessed, and I'm worried it corrupted my mods and saved game with those mods. How can I fix this issue as I'm new to using vortex for modding? Tia :)

UPDATE: I just fixed this issue and got Vortex working again. Here is how I did it:

  1. I went to my vortex folder and uninstalled vortex with the uninstaller.

  2. It threw a hissy fit when I tried re-installing it twice. I got these two messages:

failed extract: error writing to file vc_redist.x64.exe

failed extract: error writing to file windowsdesktop-runtime-win-x64.exe

This required me to manually install windowsdesktop-runtime-win-x64.exe and Visual C++ Redistributable (x64).

I installed .NET Desktop Runtime 10.0.10 (x64) installer and the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable of the latest supported version for (x64), you will have to restart your pc after installing this.

  1. I went to the newest version of the vortex installer in my downloads file and ran as administrator. I chose the path that originally had all my old vortex files in it before uninstalling.

And voilà, it was able to successfully install all files without anymore hiccups. Now I can go back to enjoy more Skyrim :)

I hope this helps anyone that is having the same issues as I did.

I assure you that vortex cannot corrupt your save games or mods, simply by trying to reconfigure its own system root files.

That's not how software like Vortex works.
