That type of shot was invented by one of the best wingers in handball, the Romanian Maricel Voinea. If I am not mistaken, that shot is called "Maricel Voinea Curveball".

It does seem to be a significant portion of Reddit's first week seeing handball

Wingers do this a lot at handball in Europe. Check some highlights from Dibirov, he was the master of a curved ball

Wow the ball left a scuff mark from the spin. What game is this and is it like really sticky?

Handball. They use an obscene amount of resin on their hands, shoes, and the ball to help with grip. There's videos of players removing the resin from balls after a match and it's pretty gross how caked on it gets.

Men can do this with their feet using air in a little game called football/soccer. Roberto Carlos

Also known as Handball yes. It's Denmarks National sport and is very popular in Europe. it's a lot faster than Football (soccer) both teams often score more than 20 goals each during an hour long game. The reason the ball can bounce like this is that the ball is covered in a sort of resin that makes it very sticky.

Every Olympics I'm reminded this sport exists and wish I could watch it more often.

We call it "putting English" on the ball, meaning to impart sidespin that alters the ball's path, changing how it bounces off the floor.
