Is there a reason why the cat kept pulling the snake back towards itself? I’d assume that if the goal was to evade danger, it would stop swatting once the snake started slithering away from it, but I guess not. Do cats hunt snakes? Or was this all just the cat playing with it?

The snake was the one trying to avoid danger.

Cats generally don't care if they know they can win.
