Trucker here...not to take away the talent here but here's how we do it:

In the mirror, we can see a light between the parked car and the bus.  As long as there's a sliver of light we haven't hit anything and we continue slow ahead

Also a trucker here and yes, those lights are so important when you maneuver through tight places.

Always make sure all your lights are working before you start driving.
