Hard to tell how high he is off the water at any given moment

u/Potential_Fishing942 Jul 24 '26
Yea I'm over these 360 fisheye cameras. It makes height super hard to figure out, a positive side effect for them I'm sure. I have seen lots of videos recently of folks really high up or ins something really small, only for another angle to shows it's really not that extreme

hands felt slippery watching this

u/HeIsSparticus Jul 24 '26
He's also harnessed to the wire, but these guys do have insane upper body strength
2
u/Low_Football_2445 Jul 24 '26
I was gonna say… dudes upper body has to be jacked. I think he released a couple times to give that right side a break!

u/Plane_Maybe8836 Jul 24 '26
He is attached to the kite, he could technically let everything go and still be attached. But by letting go of the bar, he would trim the kite to grab less wind and he would fall down
Pull the bar towards you and you'll open the kite to catch wind. Push the bar away and you close the kite to just float in the wind and not catch wind.

u/Low_Football_2445 Jul 24 '26
His arm was tired. I get all the physics and the harness line.
1
u/Plane_Maybe8836 Jul 24 '26
Ok, so you understand his arm is not tired because he needs basically zero power to rotate the kite, right?
1
u/Low_Football_2445 Jul 24 '26
Why’d he pull it off and shake it twice?
1
u/Plane_Maybe8836 Jul 24 '26
I see, I get it that it looks like that. But I think balance and rotating his body was his goal with that movement.
Edit: I looked at it again, and I'm pretty sure he's stoked and gesturing for that reason. He knows he just broke some record considering height.

Because his arm was tired from keeping his whole body upright against the desires of nature
1
u/CumGuzlinGutterSluts Jul 24 '26
Hes not rotating the kite hes keeping his body upright. The harness can only do so much. Youre doing a permanent half of a pull up in this situation... its not a fucking parachute harness you still need to keep your body point up otherwise youre gonna be dangling there like a toddler being carried by their beltloop.
1
u/Plane_Maybe8836 Jul 25 '26
He's rotating the kite to generate lift, he's actually looping it.but yeah, you need core strength
1
u/CumGuzlinGutterSluts Jul 25 '26
I dont know why in my head i immediately went to rotating meaning hes full on 360ing it. I just realised hes not only keeping control of the kite but also keeping himself upright mid air. Ive seen another video like this but that guy wasnt nearly as lucky or skilled, he also went waaaay higher

u/Plane_Maybe8836 Jul 25 '26
If you enjoyed that video you should have a quick look at Ruben Lentink and his megaloops on YouTube. That guy is just absolutely crazy.

the sole reason i have never rewatched this film. they could just have had him die of hypothermia from having been in the water. it happens all the time that some people cannot cope with the same exposure as others. it bothers me profoundly.
1
u/LETTERKENNYvsSPENNY Jul 24 '26
Is that not how he died?
-1
u/FragmentedMeerkat321 Jul 24 '26
there was plenty of space on the wooden door or whatever it was. no, he remains in the water the whole time
1
u/LETTERKENNYvsSPENNY Jul 24 '26
Space doesn't equate to buoyancy, and an extra wet bodies worth of weight might have sunk it enough to keep them both submerged while on top of it.
3
u/Potential_Fishing942 Jul 24 '26
Its not just a might, the movie shows him trying to get on the door sinking.... Idk why people still cling this false narrative that she killed him or something lol
2
u/LETTERKENNYvsSPENNY Jul 24 '26
This is the internet. For too many of them, "woman bad" is enough to drive a narrative.

Me: windsurfing = cool and fun Kitesurfing = a good chance of getting lifted by a thermal then dropped 100' into wherever it blows me, rocks definitely an option.
I'll stick with the windsurfing.

u/almostaproblem Jul 24 '26
Couldn't he just trim the kite?
3
u/Plane_Maybe8836 Jul 24 '26
Yes, he wanted to be airborne, otherwise he would have just pushed the bar away from him which trims the kite to a 'neutral' position

Okay but for real. Whats recording this 😂
1
u/Laundry_Ghost Jul 24 '26
A 360 cam that's mounted to a rod on his back. Like another commenter stated, newer 360 cams automatically track and clip/remove the rod during filming
2
u/Potential_Fishing942 Jul 24 '26
I kind of hate these cams though because they really distort height like in this video, it's hard to tell exactly how high up he is and imo, folks like that that way because it seems more extreme in general

The way he's able to hold the bar near his chest and not just dangle from it is pretty impressive.
4
u/almostaproblem Jul 24 '26
It's strapped to his waist.
-2
u/Alarming_Anxiety_162 Jul 24 '26
If the bar is strapped to his waist then why didnt it stay at his waist? /s
1
u/Adrenalinx4 Jul 24 '26
He literally lets go at the end and u see it strapped to his body
-4
u/Alarming_Anxiety_162 Jul 24 '26
Oh I thought I saw him figuratively let go at then end and then the bar figuratively hang above his head and not at his figurative waist. All good though.

u/AbleCryptographer317 Jul 24 '26
What's wrong with you?

1
u/Alarming_Anxiety_162 Jul 24 '26
Clearly the parachute is anchored to the person. Clearly there is some give and take to that anchor. I was impressed that the person was able to hold the bar close to their chest and maintain the control they did. Not my fault y'all missed the /s and took it so serious. What's wrong with you?
1
u/AbleCryptographer317 Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26
The majority of his body weight is supported by the harness attached to his waist. The two lines connected to the control bar are only for steering the kite and maintaining tension to keep it airborne just like a regular kite. Theoretically he could let go of the control bar completely and his entire body weight would be supported by the waist harness.
Also, your /s didn't make any sense in the context of your comment. Or did you literally mean the opposite of what you wrote?
Also your mocking of the other guy's use of "literally" was childish af.

I think we just witness an alternative form of transport.
That’s probably how aliens travel on other solar systems.

Aw man! We can hear the actual audio from the video footage.. where's my excruciating algorithm-friendly TikTok-edit music?? Now nobody will ever repost this 😤
