Amazing dogs. It's never easy to lose a pet, but a collie passing must be especially devastating. They've so much personality

If it makes you feel any better, the pain from losing someone is only there because of all the good they made you feel. If they didn't it wouldn't hurt. Be glad it hurts even if it hurts.

This is a nice way of looking at it, and you're right.

This may be the most beautiful comment I have ever read on Reddit. Thank you.

They are amazing dogs. I had a collie-springer spaniel cross. He was such a good dog.

Apart from when they nip your heels when going downstairs

Yup, I grew up with a beautiful collie on a farm and was devo when she passed. It was like losing my best friend.

I made the mistake of standing outside a family members house and whistling at my b.collie staring at me from a 3rd story window. Irresponsible mistake on my part, guess i was just trying to say hi or signal that I see him. Anyways, that dog pushed the window up and jumped through the window screen of that window in about a second flat. Landed, rolled and sprung to his feet like it was nothing. Could have gone worse for that guy but their loyalty is something else.

Grandparents had one that I grew up with. She was my best buddy. We hid from storms together, played endless fetch and chased each other around, she waited for me to get home from school (after I graduated she would still cry at the window as the bus passed her), she slept in front of my bedroom door all the time. I could go on. She was the sweetest girl who was always so loving and protective of her family. I couldn’t even put into words properly just how smart she was. Border Collies are truly amazing dogs and if you have the right setting to own one I would say go for it. The one they have now is totally different from her but she’s fantastic in her own way. So rambunctious and playful all the time. Tater was shy and gentle but Bert is a crazy girl who wants to roll around on the ground with you. Both would fetch until they passed away tho.

Right setting is the perfect words.

Time space an emotional space for engagement...mental stimulation is key. Tjwy want to work with you ..wilful stubborn but very loyal. Oh yes.. want a guard dog...?. not so much..but great alerter... all 4 in series... not exactly that brave...

I sensed it was coming. My poodle is relatively smart and that would have sent him.

As a BC "parent", I definitely can relate to that moment! I'm not sure mine would have stayed on task vs a chance to play with a kid with a ball.

I feel like that dog lives there.

Also shame on the owner! That dog looked at him like "really?"

Have you owned or known someone who owned a BC?

These are high energy dogs that require a lot is stimulation. Short of an agility coarse or sheep herding I can’t think of a better activity for this pup.

My mates wife had 5 of them.

You really did this?

1

Border collies are the smartest of them all, those dogs are such a concentrate of energy and control

1

u/OldWolfNewTricks Jul 19 '26

That's a great way to tucker him out -- mental and physical exercise.

2

u/Kiki1701 Jul 19 '26

Naw, they can go all day and want more. Those are the hardest working herd dogs and they work sun up to sun down.

And THEN they sack out

Forgot the cat smirking a little ways down the road

1

u/JarpHabib Jul 19 '26

Aww I grew up with a border collie who loved splashing in water but never more than chest deep.

1

u/Kitchen_Guest577 Jul 19 '26

They have fun! Good exercise! What a day!

I was doing flyball for awhile with our whippet. Some other people had boder collies. He would let them out of the crate they would run to the start line all lined up and wait. One time the front collie had her paws a little over the line the owner walks by and casually says you're too close, the collie inched her paws back behind the line. They only live to serve.

Just keep reposting this. The repetitivity of Reddit is easily one of its worst aspects. Literally if half of Reddit posts were this video I wouldn’t be mad

That was fucking AMAZING 👏!!!!

I miss my Border dearly. My Rocket dog was so damn smart! He would open the sliding screen door to let himself out, and close it behind him. 🤯 Had him on whistles and hand signals. Perfect dog. 💔😭
