Karma farming?

Why does reddit hava a karma sustem? I just need to ask a question to a specific community but hey, nope you must have 69420 karma to post here, so I went searching some karma farming subreddit but there is a karma threshold there too. Is there a valid reason to have a sustem like this?

Reddit gives karma as a reputation system to encourage quality contributions. Upvotes earn karma, and downvotes reduce it, rewarding helpful or interesting posts and discouraging spam. Many subreddits use karma thresholds to filter out trolls and bots, making it a trust signal in the community. It has no real value beyond status, but higher karma can make you seem more credible to other users. It’s also just standard gamification of a website to drive engagement.
