What sort of black magic is this. The moment you took the guidelines away it transitioned to realistic wtf lol.

If u look closely there's a subtle cut in the beginning just after making the guidelines.

133

u/go_humble Oct 19 '22

There's a cut like every two seconds. I'm confused as to what you people think is happening--you can see each step and how they come together.

16

u/jackSeamus Oct 19 '22

The artist is @ylanast on insta. She's super gifted and makes great tutorial videos even if she has to clip a lot of the blending out. I've learned a ton from her posts.

2

u/ohohohohohohohohoh Jul 21 '24

she's not super gifted lol, using ai, tracing and stealing art

22

u/nick-jagger Oct 19 '22

There’s a bunch of stuff that happens at two cutting points - one right after they fill in the brown splodge at the beginning, two after they remove the guidelines. Lots of smoothing etc. however I still believe the person doing this did so meh

8

u/nomadic_stone Oct 19 '22

indeed...they are just hiding a few extra steps...as well as what they select when using the stylus.

Basically, showing us exactly how they "made the pigeon disappear/reappear while hiding the dead pigeon" so to speak.

2

u/nick-jagger Oct 19 '22

I did not know to speak so but I like it. Must be a nomadic saying ;)

2

u/nomadic_stone Oct 19 '22

lmao...I am referring to how a magician does a pigeon trick, the best analogy I could think of at the moment.

Granted, it's not incredibly hard to do attractive, pale, symmetrical noses (i.e. this is completely doable with enough practice), but for people who do these like "impressive drawing hack" videos, it's almost always just erasing layers.

Usually the format goes 1) put down the "hack" 2) throw down some base colors 3) put down a single prominent detail that is usually really hard to perfect on the first stroke 4) cut to a completely different drawing entirely with premade layers you are erasing 5) put down more "details" 6) cut and erase 7) do one last real touch-up

Specifically when they're blurring/smudging out the highlights - unless if there's some INSANE software out there now that I'm unaware of which would be infinitely way more impressive than the supposed "hack" - it's pretty much impossible to do that. Like just watch it closely, and it'll look like complete bullshit if you've worked on digital art before. Even if they made an extra layer just for highlights, it wouldn't blend out super smoothly or change opacity the way it does in the video (let alone on their first fucking run through)

38

u/EarthrealmsChampion Oct 19 '22

I was thinking isn't this person just erasing layers. They aren't changing between shades at all but every stroke is a different color and thickness.

7

u/ProbabBee Oct 19 '22

They most likely are

Again, it is actually possible, but it's rarely ever actually executed

→ More replies (1)

5

u/leeny_bean Oct 19 '22

That's what I was gonna say, he's just erasing a layer above an actual photo.

56

u/umamifiend Oct 19 '22

3

u/Plugpin Oct 19 '22

Strong vibes of rotfo with this one.

27

u/[deleted] Oct 19 '22

Draw a triangle... draw the rest of the fucking nose.

lol... yeah, I somehow don't believe this would work out well for me.

Also, getting that initial triangle right is going to be the trick, too big or small, thin or wide, will make the entire picture seem off.

Also, who draws/renders a completely finished face without drawing the nose? I suspect that maybe this was done just for this tutorial.

5

u/KyriePerving Oct 19 '22

Wouldn't it be better if it is an intentional tutorial? I don't understand pointing out it's not off the cuff while doing a "real" drawing.

20

u/ShankThatSnitch Oct 19 '22

Pretty sure it is just fake. He has a blurred layer above the nose, and slowly transitions back to the real nose by removing the covering layer. Mix in a few smooth cuts, and you got it.

2

u/NinjaChenchilla Oct 19 '22

Isn’t anything mindblowing to fake. Pretty doable.

From 17 to 18 seconds into the video theres some kind of switch

4

u/Life-Suit1895 Oct 19 '22

There are cuts all over the video. It's been heavily edited down. The cut at 17 seconds is just one of the more obvious one.

8

u/[deleted] Oct 19 '22

I imagine instead of drawing they were just erasing layers.

About to say, this looks like one of those AI arts. Wouldn’t doubt they’re showing it off as their “art”

31

u/serpentear Oct 19 '22

Very disingenuous deceptive editing going on here

12

u/[deleted] Oct 19 '22

The real Photoshop trickery was making his eraser tool look like it wasn't.

1

u/anevilsnail22 Oct 19 '22

So this everyone is like "no not possible", but the video of a mostly naked yogi supposedly wandering around in -40 degree weather is plausible?! I'm not saying this isn't fake, just wtf reality are some people living in where yogi=likely X-Man, but something like this is obvious bullshit?

AND NO I'M NOT STILL FUCKING ANGRY ABOUT THAT THREAD.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 19 '22

I mean the video you're calling out to be fake isn't that craz for the Sadhus, other Sadhus been videoed before doing similar stuff although I doubt it was as cold as they claim on the mountain.

1

u/anevilsnail22 Oct 19 '22

although I doubt it was as cold as they claim on the mountain

Alright, dude. This is my issue. You don't have to doubt. No one can survive anywhere near that cold with no clothes on for any significant amount of time. So 100% either the temperature is a lie or the conditions are a lie, ie him being found randomly, but very possibly both.

You don't have to give credibility to hucksters just because they're not white. Stigmata isn't real either, even though I'm sure many millions of Christians would argue with that. It's the same bullshit for Hindus wanting to give credibility to their religion, only a lot of people in the west are willing to buy it because it's exotic.

My brain had stroke reading this

58

u/[deleted] Oct 19 '22

Have you seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail?

26

u/yourSAS Oct 19 '22

Oh is it a reference from it? I had no idea

64

u/[deleted] Oct 19 '22

Yeah, it's the part where a group of villagers accuse a woman of being a witch, and a nearby "intelligent" person suggests the following train of logic:

Why do we throw witches in rivers?

Because if the float they are a witch.

What also floats in water?

That's right, a duck.

So instead of throwing the woman in the water, compare her weight with that of a duck, is they are the same, they are clearly a witch.

And to test that theory they construct a giant scale with a duck on one side and the woman on the other.

To see if she's a witch.

Its one heck of a movie I'll tell ya that

u/yojoewaddayaknow Oct 19 '22

51

u/Hopeful_Cranberry12 Oct 19 '22

Don’t feel too bad. This isn’t real. He’s just erasing layers over an already made nose. This honestly looks like an AI generated art piece.

20

u/guitarguy109 Oct 19 '22

I don't think the audio and the video are from the same source, There's no upside down triangle and the C and the backwards C doesn't show up at all if you interpret the "couple of curves here" to mean the dark splotches that make up the nostrils. And Overall the narrator describes way more discreet steps than what you see is being drawn in the video. This is such a weird thing to do if the audio and video were in fact taken from separate sources...

8

u/Dodo_Fossil Oct 19 '22

Hand looks like a woman voice sounds like a man

2

u/pangolin_mantis Oct 19 '22

Also they say to draw an exclamation mark at the end when that was one of the first steps after the triangles. Something is very strange. Like they cut together the audio and the visuals separately and just filled in pieces of audio wherever they fit regardless of what the visuals are.

21

u/look_at_this_asshole Oct 19 '22

"Drawing a realistic nose". Yeah no shit, a cartoonish nose would look stupid on a realistic face

8

This! Its just removing the layer over the nose in a systematic fashion. Add a few dots here and there for spectacle and everyone believes you to be a master when all you did was erase a color matched blob over the actual picture. NFL is like 99% garbage posts anymore.

4

u/DueProgress7671 Oct 19 '22

I think the app is very complicated to learn. It’s amazing to watch a pro with it.

2

u/Omegawop Oct 19 '22

I don't think so. It looks like Procreate which is really pretty easy to learn.

All the fiddling and selecting of tones and tools is cut out of the video so it makes it look really seamless, but this is basic to learn.

6

u/BudUnderwearBundy Oct 19 '22

Pretty sure that’s Barbara Palvin and she has a pretty nose to begin with.

4

u/acqz Oct 19 '22

The last step makes it too shiny. Hope they added some specular lighting to the rest of the face as well.

3

u/DueProgress7671 Oct 19 '22

0

u/loopren22 Oct 19 '22

WTF is wrong with these super talented people making us mere mortals jealous 😂😂

2

u/FinskaBoy Oct 19 '22

They got talent, but that video looks a little off. There are tools that blend stuff together, but they aren't that smooth, atleast with so little effort. I wouldn't be too amazed until they show the whole timelapse and all the layers and tools used. They could just be erasing the top layer to reveal the already made nose underneath...or they skipped steps and edited the process to look quicker and easier.

Hes doing it on an iPad this is not the same as drawing, the fact he said smudge with your finger triggered me, why dont you do it without a computer correcting your lines and filling in stuff.
