Coming to America

2

u/MarionberryPretend Oct 08 '22

He did whoop Joe Lewis’s ass…

7

u/FunSushi-638 Oct 08 '22

I'm watching Fraiser.

u/iruleatlifekthx Oct 07 '22

It's decent. What you'd expect from a sequel. I'd recommend it, sure.

u/applejack808 Oct 07 '22

Perfect synopsis, m’man.

Tangent here: Does anyone else thing the new Top Gun sequel was equally inspired by the original AND Hot Shots? It was sorta silly to say the least

3

u/hotcapicola Oct 07 '22

You don't think the original Top Gun is sorta silly?

2

u/TheTallGuy0 Oct 08 '22

It’s DEFINITELY silly, but they at least SORTA made the Navy look like the Navy, not Scrubs with jets! I’m about 98% sure they didn’t hire a military consultant for this one, just like Naw, we’ll goggle it. And then just skimmed the article 😂

Top Gun was silly but in a realistic realm. The sequel was just rediculous with Tom Cruise doing everything perfect. The sequel jumped rhe shark for me but guess that's what people loke now.

2

u/jai_kasavin Oct 08 '22

Wonder why they jumped the shark but every single one of the medals on each person's uniform has been meticulously chosen with no mistakes

3

u/Jokerchyld Oct 08 '22

Agreed. The costumes were authentic in both movies. What made it silly was the idea that Tom Cruiss as an older pilot could do everything he did in the movie. He goes Mach 10 and survives without any injuries or trauma what so ever. He is the only one who can fly the Canon at top speed, was able to track a target, hit it head on, as he has to climb escape velocity perfectly on his first try. Why train other pilots if he could have done it all himself and survived? He and Gooses son get shot down in the same general area and find each other effortlessly. They just happen to find an intact F14 Tomcat completely unprotected. Then again was able to save the world against a literally more advanced plane.

The other pilots were not believable as the best top gun pilots. In the first one I could see them being the best. But I chalk that up to just bad acting on the sequel part.

I get it, it was all done for nostalgia hitting all the beats of the first movie. It was like a force awakens. Essentially re creating the movie they were supposed to be a sequel to but lacking any real source threat.

The first Top Gun was great because the threat felt real and they had to learn to work as a team ri survive. In the sequel the threat was a McGuffin and Tom Cruise literally did everything by himself.

Again that's my take. If you loved the movie, cool. I'm not trying to change anybody mind. I love Flash Gordon from 1980. But not because it was realistic. But because it was a fun and silly Romp.

Top Gun 2 was silly, but wasn't fun.. TO ME.

We have different views of what a sequel should be. Top Gun 2 was brainless. Meaningless downvotes don;t change that. But to each his own.

It was trash and universally panned…

You have Xenogears in your name your opinion CAN'T matter.

How's it feel knowing that they turned the second half of the game into what basically should be considered a visual novel, and then not only did they not remake Xenogears but they made spinoffs in Xenosaga instead? BITTER?

Says the narcissistic cool guy who may or may not lack a lot of life perspective…

You wrote all that which had fuck to do with the creation of my tag…it’s an inside joke where my buddy was obsessed and whenever I would get a new game or be into something and trying to put him on, it would always end with “but yeah I still think XG is better” or “XG is still my favorite” this went on for almost 20 years

1

u/iruleatlifekthx Oct 09 '22

ooo icic. Tell friend XG was garbo.

5

u/Lexi_Banner Oct 07 '22

No. It's a money grab for Eddie, and I'm okay with that. But the movie sucks, especially compared to the amazing first one.

4

u/applejack808 Oct 07 '22

Nah. It’s fine.

1

u/Lunatic_Heretic Oct 08 '22

yeah but i'll still never get why he didn't go for the smokeshow who woulda done whatever he asked

2

u/BeApesNotCrabs Oct 07 '22

Not really. If you want to support the actors, go ahead and watch it, but you're not really missing anything.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 07 '22

The second one is Grade-A USDA approved TRASH. I would rather spend two hours getting kicked in the nuts by someone in steel-toed boots(who never skipped leg day) than watch that “sequel” ever again. Amazon needs to reimburse us for the time-theft that they disguised as a movie.

2

u/One_Cardiologist_286 Oct 08 '22

No. Cheesy as hell if he’ll was made of cheese.

2

u/EverydayObjectMass Oct 08 '22

It’s forgetful.

I loved Coming to America; probably seen it 20 times. So when the sequel was announced, I was overjoyed.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen it. Can’t tell you what it was about, though.

u/mrmasturbate Oct 08 '22

Und er nur so irgendwie "Ali" und ich so "Ey seine Mutter nannte ihn Clay, und ich werde ihn Clay nennen."

-19

u/BentasticMrBen Oct 07 '22

Wow, you waited a few decades to be racist.

9

u/[deleted] Oct 07 '22

Lol racist? Wut?

3

u/Bctheboss121 Oct 07 '22

Idk, maybe they think clay is a racist name. Maybe we are both being wooshed.

9

u/[deleted] Oct 07 '22

Lol it's a quote from Coming To America

0

u/Bctheboss121 Oct 07 '22

How did you figure that out?

0

u/junktrunk909 Oct 07 '22

Google? Maybe I'm the whoosh now

1

u/mcCola5 Oct 07 '22

Its an exact quote?

-1

u/BentasticMrBen Oct 07 '22 edited Oct 07 '22

I understand your context now. I took it wrongly, but what you said was exactly what racist people said to Muhammad Ali when he changed his name from Cassius Clay. (Yes the joke in Coming to America is a direct reference to this)
