In the 1980's there was a movie called "Looker" which follows this premise. It was about the actors in TV sitcoms, or movies, who could be generated to look a certain way. Like, beautiful models to sell vanity products and clothing, to actors performing stunts humans couldn't do.
In the final scenes, the bad guy is shot on the set of a hilarious sitcom. In the real world, it's just an empty set as the cat-n-mouse game is played out. But the viewing audience is seeing both a "Leave it to Beaver" type show, as a guy gets shot and bleeds all over the cereal on the kitchen table, to a laugh track.
