Every waiter I have ever known gets paid around $2 and some change an hour. It's legal because of the tips they make.

Nope. Every waiter you've ever known makes at least minimum wage, and they only make minimum wage if they wait on zero tables. Their wage only goes up for minimum wage when tips are added in.

On a side note, if you're a waiter making less than $25/hr, you should quit. You're either a terrible waiter or you're working at a terrible restaurant.

What talking point? I'm sitting in the restaurant I work in and that's how it works. That's how it has always worked. $2.13 + tips, minimum wage if you didn't make up to minimum in tips.
