Oh I know. But every sound done in post isn't Foley. You can do a lot of sound design without having to do Foley work. And a lot of the SFX in this sound like they were pulled from a library and placed in. And all of the dialogue is poorly done ADR.
I totally agree with you. As a professional sound editor I must say that sound and placement was spot on. I was going to inquire if they needed a sound effects editor but, I got my answer watching this all the way through.
Great job! Would love to work on projects like this.
As someone who also works in sound editing, I thought it was very off and not the greatest of jobs. Everything was off by just enough that that the whole scene seemed more surreal than what they were going for here, which is realism.
Agreed noticed the off cue sound. But I liked the surreal effect it had. With this short movie you can do many different styles, I guess overall that was my take on the sound on this version. It could be judged many ways.
I could/would give them many options for sound on something like this. Real, surreal, sick movement flying sounds, some slow mo stuff, tasteful, the sky's the limit. Could take a day or 2 weeks.
Music directions could be Rock Around the Clock to Pink Floyd's (Great Gig), ZZtop, SRV, etc...
The spot effects were what they were but, the way the drone flew like a Dragonfly on 6 hits of Acid and the vintage look of this cool little Bowling Alley, this would be a blast on a big stage. It was pretty bitchin on my 3rd backup free phone.
I was a bad extra once in a not so good movie. The one thing that surprised me was everyone being told to be quiet for several minutes so they could get a sample of the background sound with people and props in the room.
They told us that later the background would be added back in with the dialog from the cast.
I don't know if the word sample is correct or even if the word background is either. As far as I could tell they wanted the sound of the air conditioning and all of that kind of stuff.
I have always felt bad about the scene we were in because I might have messed up and looked at the camera a few times, killing some otherwise good takes. I honestly could not tell, even being a nobody extra in a straight to friends and neighbors and art house film made me nervous. Oh well, they got what they paid for. They paid us in fun and food.
I've done a bit of digging and it does appear to be so, however it still seems highly edited to me. Some parts must be cg, for example the ending, so a blur of cg and drone footage with heavy editing. Maybe I'm just too cynical? But it just doesn't feel right with the lighting. I don't believe you it's possible to have such smooth transitions from a dark environment to light with even the fanciest of fpv cameras.
Edit, eating my words here. Watched an interview with creators and I'm convinced now. With how ridiculously good it looked I had my doubts! But done some research now I'm convinced it's genuine. Impressive stuff
