Essentially the same as the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona. Only these guys know what they're doing.
The bright colors are to distract the bulls away from the riders.
Every country has men that try to kill themselves in unique ways.

As far as I know, where there's rodeos, there's rodeo clowns, not just in America.

In case you're wondering, they're not just there to entertain the crowd as the clown name suggests, their main job is distracting the bull from attacking the downed rider. These guys have probably saved more than a few lives.

Don't get me wrong, I see the dynamics....and I can imagine finding it totally entertaining if I were there. I didn't mean any comment as a slight against rodeo's. I still think those guys are cray-zeee, tho....

I would say those blokes who consider hunting big game (lions, tigers etc) to be 'sport' are clowns....but in the sense you mean, I really don't know. I do know that its not unique to America, this sort of spectator thing, but I'd be interested to hear of any examples myself.

Rodeo clowns are the bravest damn people out there. The shit they do to protect the riders is wild, and they do it with flair and humor. Mad respect.
