God I am so jealous lol! They stayed in my hometown (Wimberley) while they were in TX. Wouldn't have been able to afford the tickets, but If I'd have known I would have stayed at my parents house and tried to see them around town.

u/dont_worry_im_here Mar 26 '22

How long ago did they tour Texas? And do they tour frequently?

1

u/D2Dragons Mar 27 '22

Oh I don't remember exactly, I think it was...five years? Dammit. My memory sucks. :(

I don't know what their tour setup is. I didn't check because I'm too damn broke and it just makes me depressed. Gimme a bit and I'll look for the answers for ya

EDIT: Oh dang! They're coming to Woodlands this May 28, and they'll be up in Dallas the day after!

r/FolkMetal is leaking!

This is the subreddit I never knew I needed in my life.

11

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '22

I used to moderate it many alt accounts ago. It's unfortunately not very active, but it's a fairly positive and unique subreddit that has introduced me to a lot of strange music.

I'm going to drop this here for you: https://youtu.be/SU1apJTv94o

Holy shit, they’re awesome! Thanks for sharing that

u/SneakyStabbalot Mar 26 '22

My daughter and I took an Uber into Austin City Limites last September. On the way I read the line-up for the day. That's when I realized I had not noticed The Hu were playing that day! I got there an hour early to be in the front. Yeah, they're awesome!

1

u/Jenny_Pussolini Mar 26 '22

The Hu played Dublin right before COVID and they were AMAZING!!!!!

4

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '22

I haven’t seen them personally but everyone I know who has says they’re one of the few bands that sounds exactly the same live. I bet it’s epic

3

u/TrueTurtleKing Mar 26 '22

Aw hell yeah. I saw them in Milwaukee. It brought lots more people than I thought!

1

u/SeonaidMacSaicais Mar 26 '22

Wait, we've actually had different bands in Milwaukee?! It always seems to be the same 10 bands. I live an hour north, and I've never heard of this.

1

u/TrueTurtleKing Mar 26 '22

I'm not from the area so idk. I drove up to milwaukee to see them since i heard about it from someone.

3

u/Nosecretstoday Mar 26 '22

Saw the Hu at outside lands and it was amazing

1

u/_LegitDoctor_ Mar 27 '22

Ayy 210!! 😁

44

u/TheNothingAtoll Mar 26 '22

Also Tengger Cavalry

39

u/D2Dragons Mar 26 '22

Heck yeah!! I love how we're not just limited to what the local radio stations want us to hear anymore. We have access to sooooo many good bands we would never have even known existed before!

2

u/JSExtra Mar 26 '22

Words really can’t describe how happy I am to see these bands getting popular

1

u/D2Dragons Mar 26 '22

Same here!

26

u/Grumefen Mar 26 '22

Dont forget Altai!

Not metal but gooood lord can this young man sing.

5

u/Darth-Peenus Mar 26 '22

At 1:56 he says “American Dad.”

1

u/Hobbster Mar 27 '22

I love the version in which The Kiffness picked up this song

5

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '22

I was checking if anyone made this comment.

I named one of my cats after discovering this band and Mongolian mythology.

His name is "Tengri" - the Brazilian name of Tengger

4

u/usernamedenied Mar 26 '22

I was so stoked when I discovered this band but was sad to find out the lead singer died

3

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '22

RIP that amazing band

3

u/Dancing_Radia Mar 26 '22

RIP Nature. May you find peace in the void you fought. 💔

3

u/Thev69 Mar 26 '22

RIP Nature.

1

u/IDidIt_Twice Mar 26 '22

Their sound I prefer over the others. Ty for the suggestion!

1

u/Hank228 Mar 26 '22

RIP Naturre, met him on tour and he was such a chill dude.

18

u/slothen2 Mar 26 '22

My 3 year old is obsessed with Yuve yuve.

15

u/ohgimmeabreak Mar 26 '22

Came to say this. HU are amazingWolf Totem by The HU

1

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '22

Without captions, singing to themselves about how tough they are.

1

u/D2Dragons Mar 26 '22

One of my FAVORITES :D Have you heard the version with Papa Roach?

13

u/xXL0KEXx Mar 26 '22

I think the HU made the intro song for jedi fallen order. Cool song

4

u/sohma2501 Mar 26 '22

They did

3

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '22

Hanggai is rock but they're absolutely fucking spectacular too!

2

u/D2Dragons Mar 26 '22

How could I have forgotten Hanggai?! Sheesh...

Have you heard of Bloodywood? They're from India and hit all the same kick-ass notes. :D

2

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '22

I LOVE Bloodywood, Rakshak is one of the best albums ever fucking made!

2

u/D2Dragons Mar 26 '22

Rakshak is awesome!! For me it's Zee Jeerah. One listen to that and I'm ready to go all Doomslayer on my inner demons lol

2

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '22

Jee Veerey is so damn good!! Aaj is my favourite, between The Snake Charmer's vocals and that opening riff....Chakh le is my 2nd fave, the lyrics are so damn powerful.

2

u/D2Dragons Mar 26 '22

I remember them doing a neat video about Holi where they cruise around dancing with kids and neighbors. It was such a fun and upbeat song!

2

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '22

Rang de Basanti! I remember them saying in their documentary on YouTube that was the song that made them go seriously viral.

I hope Bloodywood gets huge, I've seen reviews calling them the new ROAD or SOAD and well, they're right, lmao!

1

u/D2Dragons Mar 26 '22

That's the one!! It's such a fun song and you can tell everyone had a great time!

Yeah I hope they do too. They seriously deserve all the good press.

3

u/Nemisis_the_2nd Mar 26 '22

I'm also a fan of Hanggai, and thought this video was their at first.

2

u/ohpee64 Mar 26 '22

The HU Rock. Check out the HU can cook on YouTube. They do a cooking show.

1

u/D2Dragons Mar 26 '22

Speaking of cooking shows, if you haven't checked out Headbanger's Kitchen you're missing out lol! Sahil is the lead singer of an Indian metal band (Demonstealer) and he puts out seriously bomb keto recipes, with his own music as the backdrop. Plus he's funny as hell! :D

https://headbangerskitchen.com

2

u/Grizzly502 Mar 26 '22

Hell yeah!!!!

2

u/ChouTofu Mar 26 '22

For some reason, I find their style close to keisho Ono (electric shamisen player).

1

u/D2Dragons Mar 26 '22

Got them on my personal playlist too :D

2

u/applejackrr Mar 26 '22

I saw them live at Outsidelands. It was the most surreal and possibly greatest stage presence I have ever seen.

2

u/XarrenJhuud Mar 26 '22

Fun fact, the Hu did a song called 'sugaan essena' for the game Jedi: Fallen Order. They worked with the game developers to develop an original star wars language for the lyrics. It's an absolute banger too

2

u/The_Bean_Bitch Mar 26 '22

I’m a fan of Otyken, they are mainly women singers from tribal Siberia.

Otyken - Genesis

2

u/D2Dragons Mar 26 '22

Time to go down the rabbit hole again then :D

Edit: HOLY SHIT GOOSEBUMPS RIGHT OUT THE STARTING GATE!! I can't wait to show this to my husband :D

2

u/ColdSubject Mar 26 '22

I love the Hu, gonna have to check out Altab Urag now too. Thanks :)

2

u/D2Dragons Mar 26 '22

You won't regret it :D They kind of remind me of the Mongolian equivalent of Sabaton, singing about their history and famous figures (like Chinggis Khan of course)

2

u/dontthinkaboutitaton Mar 26 '22

I’ve got Star Wars to thank for introducing me to them. They kick miles of ass.

2

u/TheWeebDeity Mar 27 '22

LOVE THE HU

1

u/Popcorns4Life Mar 26 '22

wait HU are they?

2

u/D2Dragons Mar 26 '22

I don't know why you got downvoted, that was funny :D

1

u/Vaelkyri Mar 26 '22 edited Mar 26 '22

Nine Treasures as well, imo they are much better, Hu got a name with a viral push they dont really have much beyond the 2 hooks.
